12. Picnic

Sara was nervous. The last time
she had checked the time, it was five past twelve and there she was, alone and
without hearing the sound of any engine approaching. What if he didn’t show up?
What would she do? She breathed in and tried to relax her mind and body. He was
always late, it was inherent to him. She only had to wait and he would arrive.

It was twelve twenty when she
looked again her cell phone and checked that she didn’t have any message from
him saying he would be late. He had decided to stand her up, it was the only
explanation. Although he knew that she would wait for him there, completely
alone, he hadn’t lowered himself to send her a message telling her that,
definitely, he didn’t accept her invitation and didn’t want to hear anything of
her ever, ever again.

“No, don’t think such a thing” she
told herself. “He’ll come, I’m sure.”

Her feet were starting to hurt, so
she approached to the viewpoint and lay on the quilt she had opened out on the
ground, sheltered from the wind. A pair of candles lightened inside two
lanterns gave a golden brightness to the scene. In a picnic basket awaited the
dinner she had brought for them both. She sighted sonorously. He wouldn’t give
her a new opportunity, probably because she didn’t deserve it.

“You’re stupid” she insulted
herself. It was beginning to refresh and she was happy to have a long jacket
she could wrap up with. She lay down on the quilt, with her back to the wall.
It was one o’clock and there she was, alone. She gazed at the flame of the
candle that was closer to her and looked at it dancing to the rhythm of a
gentle breeze that strained between the glasses of the lantern. He wasn’t going
to show up.

Suddenly, a hand caressed her
cheek and Sara blinked, confused and disoriented. Roberto had just materialized
next to her, she didn’t know exactly how, and was smiling at her charmingly.

“What—?” Sara took her hand to the
corner of her mouth, where she felt some dampness.

“You fell asleep.”

Oh, God! What she was cleaning
from the corner of her mouth was dribble. She had fallen asleep while she was
waiting for him and she hadn’t noticed his arrival.

“What— what time is it?” she
asked.

“Half past two.”

“Half past two?”

“Yes, I’m sorry. A large group
arrived for dinner at the last minute and my father had to accept them. I sent
you a message asking to put off our chat for another day, but you didn’t reply.

“A message?” Sara looked her phone
but she didn’t have any notification. “I haven’t received anything.”

“I supposed so. When you didn’t
reply my message, I thought that maybe you had kept your threat of staying here
to wait for me. And then I remembered that up here there isn’t coverage except
for emergencies.”

Sara noticed then the upper bar of
her Smartphone and realized that Roberto was right: there was neither 3G signal
nor coverage. She left the phone to one side.

“Well, but you’ve come” she said,
looking into his eyes and smiling at him, sincerely happy.

“And you have waited for me” he
smiled back, but only briefly. “But what’s this about, Sara? I don’t
understand” he asked looking around, to the nice and romantic setting that Sara
had prepared for him.

“I wanted to have dinner
together.”

“I’ve already had dinner. When I
work, I have dinner at eight” he saw disappointment in her eyes and added: “But
many hours had passed since I had dinner. I think I can eat again.”

Sara smiled at him with an
expression full of—hope? She was happy of having him there, it was obvious, but
that only disconcerted Roberto even more. His hurt heart yelled at him that he
shouldn’t get carried away by false illusions. Despite he had answered by
instinct with a smile to her smile, he got serious and said:

“But this looks as a romantic
dinner, Sara.”

“Because it is.”

They held each other’s gaze for
several seconds, trying to understand the implications of those three simple
words. It was her who eventually broke their eyes bond and invited him to sit
next to her.

“I have a gift for you” she said,
taking out of the picnic basket a rectangular and thin package. She handed it
to him. “Open it.”

Roberto ripped the wrapping paper
slowly, as if he was scared of what he would find inside. When he finished, he
found a photo frame with a picture of them both when they were kids. They were sat
on a bus during a school trip. They had their arms around each other’s
shoulders and they smiled so much that their cheeks seemed about to explode. He
couldn’t avoid a smile.

“Turn it.”

He obeyed and on the other side of
the photo frame he saw the picture he had taken her under the sea, the one she
had forced him to remove from the Internet.

“Eventually you made a copy before
I deleted it” he said.

“Susana downloaded it so that I could
see it. Do you like the gift?”

“Yes, but what does it mean
exactly? I don’t understand anything, Sara, and I don’t want to think what is
not only to get disappointed.”

“Open it” it was the only thing
she said.

“Open it? How?”

“Open the photo frame and look
what is inside.”

Bewildered, Roberto took off the restraints
of the photo frame and opened it. He didn’t know what he would find there, in
such a tiny space, but as soon as he separated both sides he knew what Sara
wanted him to see. She had broken in half the fuck buddy contract and on the
back of the sheet she had printed the photos. Looking inside the photo frame,
he could see the contract broken in half and crossed out with a black marker.

He raised his face to look at Sara
and she knew that it was her time to speak, to explain herself, to stripe her
soul before him as she had done so many times with her body.

“I told you what I thought about
love, that it was only an illusion and that it didn’t really exist. But the
truth is that I was only trying to convince myself of that. Love hurts and I
guess that I decided that if love didn’t exist, it couldn’t hurt me anymore.
But love is there, call it a feeling, call it a chemical reaction, but we can’t
deny its existence. What I told you in the beach is truth, any girl could fall
in love with you, including me if I only allow my heart to feel freely, without
ties of my mind, without fears of getting wounded.” Sara grabbed one of
Roberto’s hands and took it to her heart. “When you told me that you had been interested
in me since before high school, that you had been in love with me for so many
years, I didn’t answer because I didn’t know what to say. I was afraid,
terribly afraid, and at the same time— something moved inside my heart. I
started to think that I would like to feel how it is to be with someone who has
loved me in such an irrational, crazy and incomprehensible way for years. That
I would like to love that person, that I would like to let that person love me—
and then I realized that I could do it, that I could love you and let you love
me, that I could believe in love— she stopped and looked at him during some
long seconds. She felt a lump in her throat when he didn’t react. “Now it is your
turn to say something, Roberto.”

He opened his mouth and closed it
again without a word. He took off her hand from Sara’s chest and with
tenderness, he caressed her cheek.

“Now I’m the one who is afraid.
This is a dream come true and I’m afraid of waking up.”

“I won’t let you wake up from this
dream.”

She bent toward him and kissed him
softly. However, Roberto wasn’t in the mood of delicacy. He felt overflowing of
happiness and kissed her with passion. He left her go just in time for her to
breath.

“You’re gonna choke me” she
laughed.

“Tell me this isn’t a cruel joke or
a dream from which I will wake up only to find myself again in the awful
reality where you don’t want to know anything about me.”

“That would never happen again, Roberto,
I promise.”

He kissed her again and made her
lay back on the quilt, stroking her face, her shoulders and her chest. She
encircled his neck and she shivered when she felt his hand on one of her naked
thighs, climbing until it reached the jacket that served as a dress.

“What’s this?” Roberto asked
suddenly while his eyes flew to her legs. His hand had touched a weird fabric
and under the light of the candles he realized that it was a checked piece of
clothing.

“Oh, that” Sara smiled in a luring
way and, slowly, she unbuttoned her jacket, showing a tight white T-shirt and a
checked skirt. “A little bird told me that schoolgirls arouse you.”

Roberto leaned on his elbow to see
her from a better angle.

“Well, I said so when I was a
schoolboy too. But seeing you with that tiny skirt—“

“Then I’ve done it wrong,
teacher?” she asked with the voice of a little and sorry girl.

Roberto smiled just for a second
and then looked at her seriously.

“Completely wrong. I’ll have to
teach you how a young lady should dress and for that, we should start by
undressing you.”

“And will you hit me with the
stick, teacher?”

“It depends. I won’t if you make
friends with it.”

Sara made Roberto lay back and got
on all fours over him. She descended toward his inner thigh with a suggestive
gaze.

“Make friends with it?” she asked,
caressing the penis through his trousers. “How can I do that?”

“Whispering things in its ear.”

She unfastened his trousers and
lowered enough his boxers as to free his penis. Touching his testicles, she placed
her tongue at the base of his member and glided it slowly to the top.

“Like this?”

“Maybe if you get it into your
mouth it would hear you better.”

Sara obeyed and introduced his erection
between her lips, making a tight-fitting “O” around his hard and burning flesh.
With her hand she accompanied the movement of her mouth up and down.

“Like this?” she asked, searching
the approval of his teacher, that didn’t miss a thing of what she was doing. She
kept pumping his member, making it collide against her lips.

“Yes, I think you two are going to
get on very well.”

She continued hardening the penis
with her tongue and lips until she searched in the picnic basket a condom and
she put it to him with her mouth.

“Teacher, may I introduce my pet
to you? It’s a loving bunny.”

“Introduce me whoever you want.”

Sara sat on him and managed the
beating penis to enter her on the first try. He closed his eyes and exhaled
sharply all the air from his lungs. Sara rose slowly until she felt his tip
rubbing her entrance and then she fell again. She repeated the movement several
times.

“You’re a bad girl.”

She laughed and started to ride
Roberto. He took his hands to her bottom, introducing his fingers under her
skirt.

“Oh, little Sara, once again
you’re not wearing panties. Teaching you manners it’s going to take a lot of
time and effort.”

He turned her and put her under
his body. He leaned her legs on his shoulders and when he charged, the
penetration was deep and intense. In her face appeared a grimace that reappeared
with each onslaught.

“Does it hurt?”

“Don’t stop, Roberto. Don’t you ever
stop.”
