Organization

The Navy is under overall command of the Premier of the Republic in his role as Commander-in-Chief of the Solarian Armed Forces. The Admiral of the Fleet acts as the head of the military chain of command, and has final say in all strategic decisions unless overruled by the Premier. The Admiralty has the responsibility of the day-to-day operation of the Navy. The Navies overall command structure is divided into Fleets, Task Forces, Flotillas, Battle Squadrons, and then individual ships.

Fleets

There are a total of six active fleets each of which is comprised of almost a hundred ships of various classes and dispersed throughout, Republican controlled space. In peacetime, each fleet is a permanent organization whose senior command staff spends years working together. This system of organization has led to the Republic navy being able to operate with unprecedented levels of cooperation.

Language

Language in the 8th Century A.E. is a by-product of the continuous evolution of the spoken and written word. Just as numerous tongues arose on Earth as a by-product of population migration, so has mankind's diaspora to the stars created new languages and preserved several old ones. Many of these tongues would be both familiar and completely alien to 21st century ears as they generally consist of a merging of vocabulary, alphabets, and grammatical rules. Commerce and communication has produced several widely spoken standardized tongues. This includes, Old English, Chinglish, Chundi, Afroench, Spanglish, Spanlish, Guesa, Eurpolies, Slagich, and Arish. It should be noted that although individual dialects will differ, these languages are considered lingua franca among the nations of the 8th century, and serve as a common tongue for commerce, and diplomacy.

About the Author

J.S. Hawn, whose real name is Jeff- but prefers to write under the J.S. pen name because it sounds catchier- has been writing books and stories since he can remember. This was his first true attempt at a full novel. Thanks to the ease of direct publishing, he hopes it will be the first of many. When he isn't writing Science Fiction, Jeff lives in Washington DC with his adoring wife Chloe.
