CHAPTER 5

The great white wolf bounded through the forest, howling with fury. He ripped through everything that had the misfortune of being in his path—trees, bushes, fences. It was broad daylight but he didn’t care. He needed to run. He needed to clear his head.

But he couldn’t. Every thought was of her.
Cora. My love, my wife.

He tried to recall the last time he’d held her in his arms, the last time her big, blue eyes had looked upon him with the deep love they’d shared. It was a love that had once seemed unbreakable.

But now, all he could remember was holding her lifeless body in his hands on that awful day when she’d let the white fire take her. Every night he saw her that way, her empty, blue eyes. And every day he felt it—the agonizing pain of their broken bond. It was slowly driving him insane. It was broken on her end because she’d died, but it was still intact on his end. It was a torture unlike any he’d ever endured. And with the painful loss of his son as well, it was too much to bear. He prayed for a release but he didn’t even know what he was praying to, or for.

He’d had everything and he hadn’t even realized it. Instead he’d let himself be pulled towards another—to Jada. He should’ve fought harder. He should’ve fought for Cora, for what they’d had. He never should’ve lost faith the way he had. The burden of his new role as King had clouded his judgment and had driven him away from her.

And now they were both gone—his wife and his son.

It was all his fault. If he hadn’t pushed Cora away, she never would’ve given herself over to the white fire that day; she would’ve fought. But he’d ripped away her strength, piece by piece, until she’d had nothing left. He’d driven her to her death. If she hadn’t perished, their son wouldn’t be lost now in the
Home of the Dead.
No, she’d been so powerful that he just knew she would’ve been able to get him back. He wouldn’t be forced into a deal now with that despicable Kristoff to get Orion back. Ryan wasn’t a fool. He knew the chances of being able to pull Orion out were slim. And Kristoff hadn’t even revealed what would be needed yet. He just hoped it wasn’t something he didn’t have the means to provide.

Because he needed his son.

The last few weeks apart from him had been pure agony.

As he leapt over a twenty-foot-tall brick wall that separated the forest from the city, images of recent events flashed in his mind. He howled as they cut him to his core.

The monster that had wanted to rip him to shreds. Cora. No, not Cora. The vampire that she had become. There had been no humanity there at all—just demon. He’d felt her fury, her bloodlust. He hadn’t recognized her at all. And then seeing her feeding from Luca? It’d been too much. The murmurs of pleasure coming from her. The look of desire in
his
eyes. He might as well have been fucking her right in front of him. That was how intimate it’d been between them. It was that damn Sire bond. It sickened him. He hadn’t been able to bear looking at them together. And so he’d left.

He’d tried so hard to accept that she was dead, to grieve the loss of her as such. But all Luca’s talk earlier of a hope—a hope that she might not be dead, that her white energy still flowed through her—it had coerced him into believing in it too. Believing that there
was
a chance that he could have Cora back, the Cora that he remembered.

But then he’d seen her as a vampire.

That…
thing
…wasn’t the Cora he remembered.

No, the woman he loved was gone. Dead.

Josh braced himself as he opened the door to Ryan’s apartment above the bar. As soon as he’d entered the bar downstairs he’d heard his irate roars, the thud of furniture being thrown around, things breaking, smashing.

He walked in and scanned the mess before him.
Shit.

Most of the furniture was overturned: the couch, an armchair, and both breakfast bar stools. His flat-screen TV was cracked, courtesy of a fist having been smashed right through it. Papers littered the floor, mostly maps and surveillance photos. It was all of Ryan’s research into Orion’s disappearance. For the last few weeks, his apartment had been covered by his research and notes as he’d frantically searched for his son. Now, everything had been ripped from the walls. A couple of holes had been punched into the drywall.

He followed his Alpha’s scent and found him slumped against the wall in the corner, beside the overturned mattress on the floor. A half-empty bottle of scotch was pressed to his lips. His eyes were red from crying and dried tears stained his cheeks.
Fuck, he’s a mess.

“Hey,” Josh said gently as he approached him cautiously, mindful of his Alpha’s fierce temper.

Ryan just nodded briefly and then he brought a cigarette to his lips. Josh hadn’t noticed it before. He watched as Ryan dragged hard on it and then flicked the ash onto the carpet before taking another swig of the scotch bottle clutched tightly in his other hand.

“You smoke now, Ry?”

“It’s not gonna kill me, is it? I’m not human,” he snapped.

Good point.
“Shaye’s downstairs.”

Ryan looked up at the sound of her name. Josh knew that Shaye had always been able to comfort him at the worst of times. Josh and Shaye had been fooling around at her place when Josh had gotten a call that had alerted him to the fact that something had happened to Ryan. They’d come as soon as they’d heard. Upon hearing the noise coming from upstairs when they’d walked into the bar, Josh had persuaded Shaye to wait downstairs until he’d checked it out. He didn’t want her anywhere near Ryan if he was out of control and allowing his temper free rein. She was his girlfriend now; he wouldn’t put her in danger. He needed her safe—it was the overprotective wolf instinct in him.

“I don’t want to see her
or
you. Go away,” he grumbled.

“I can’t do that, Ry.”

Ryan took another drag of his smoke and eyed him as he said, “I’m fine.”

“Something’s happened. Tell me what it is.”

Ryan laughed, a disturbing, unhinged laugh. “What’s happened, J? My wife is a fucking vampire and my son is lost in the fucking
Home of the Dead
.”

“You found him? And Cora’s woken up?”

“Kristoff told me where he is. But, just like with every goddamn thing, there’s a catch. And, yeah, Cora woke up last night.”

“Why didn’t you tell me? You saw her? You finally went to Luca’s place?”

“Yeah, I fucking saw her. I watched her get off while she fed from my fucking brother!” he roared, struggling to his feet in his drunken state.

Josh took his words in.
Shit, that’s harsh, for him to have witnessed that.
“Ry, it’s just the Sire connection. It’s at its strongest for the first few days of a vampire’s life.”

Life
?” Ryan scoffed. “She’s dead, Josh! Dead! She wasn’t in there—just the fucking demon.” He stubbed his cigarette out angrily on the carpet and brought his hand to his face in distress. “I never should’ve let him turn her. What the fuck did I think was gonna happen? That she’d just wake up and be the woman that she was, the woman that I loved? I was a fool! She’s gone!” He met Josh’s gaze, tears in his eyes as he choked out, “My wife is
dead
.”

“I think you’re wrong about that. You need to give it time. Shaye’s been saying that she can feel Cora’s white energy still. The other day we went to the White Realm. Marella was there helping that dragon shifter, Asha. They’re temporary rulers of the realm, as you know. Anyway, Marella said the same thing about Cora. She hadn’t felt anything when she’d initially…died…but now she feels it again.”

“Josh, don’t,” Ryan all but pleaded. “I can’t…hope anymore.”

“I know, Ry. I get it. For now, focus on finding your son. What do we need to do?”

Ryan didn’t respond.

“Ry,” Josh pressed.

Ryan wiped away the tears in his eyes with the back of his hand and forced himself to meet Josh’s gaze, “I…I need to talk to Nathanial. I just needed a little time to…you know…pull myself together. I can’t be like this when I enter the Dark Realm. Everyone’s looking to me as King.” He staggered past him to the kitchen and put the scotch bottle down on the counter. He turned to Josh, his eyes narrowed with suspicion. “Wait. How did you know to come here? You knew something was wrong. How?”

“I was at Shaye’s place when I got
several
calls reporting a sighting of the white wolf.”

Ryan looked away. “I see.”

“In broad daylight, Ry,” Josh said, shaking his head with disapproval. “That was when I realized that you’d temporarily lost your fucking mind. Shifting in the city? Come on, Ry!”

“I’m sorry.”

“What?” Josh asked, taken aback that Ryan was apologizing.
First time for everything.

“You heard me.”

“I’d like to hear it again. It’s not often that you apologize,” Josh jested.

Ryan managed a small smile. “Yeah, well. Look, I’ll do damage control.”

“No need. I already took care of it.”

They locked eyes. “You’re the best, you know that?”

Josh crossed to him and wrapped his arm around his shoulder. “You know I’ve always got your back. Now, let’s get you out of here.
I
can smell Cora’s scent everywhere so I can’t imagine how strong it is to you. Stay with me and Shaye tonight at my place.”

“I don’t want to hear you guys fucking all night, J.”

“We’ll cool it for tonight. I promise.”

“All right.”

Josh released him and said, “You should put some clothes on first. I don’t want you riling up my girlfriend at the sight of you in nothing but your damn boxers.”

Ryan chuckled. “Yeah. That always did get her going,” he joked as he crossed to the closet in the corner.

“Hey! My girl now.”

“Relax. Sex is the last thing on my mind at the moment.”

“What about Jada? You’re seeing her aren’t you?”

Ryan pulled on a pair of jeans and told him, “I haven’t been able to…you know?”

“Come?” Josh finished for him.

“Yep,” Ryan said as he buckled his belt.

“It’s your grief, Ry.”

“I know. And…whatever weird bond there was between Jada and I…I barely feel it now. Nathanial must’ve been right—it was just a spell. I was a fool, J. To ever go to her. I betrayed my wife for her.” When Josh hesitated, Ryan eyed him and said, “I know you never approved of me being with her.”

“I like Cora. You know that. I couldn’t get on board with you doing anything to hurt her.
But
, if the pull was as strong as you’re saying between you and Jada, you couldn’t have stopped yourself anyway. So, how can I judge you for that, Ry? Sounds like you didn’t have much free will over it all.”

“Maybe.” He heaved a breath and Josh could see him struggling to pull himself together. “My priority is finding my son. We’ll figure out all that other crap afterwards.”

“You should talk to Jada, though, Ry.”

“Talk to her?”

“Yeah. Don’t be a dick about it. If you’re not gonna go to her again, you should let her know, especially if
she’s
still feeling a pull to you.”

As Ryan slipped a t-shirt on over his head, he growled in protest.

“Don’t be a dick. You’re better than that.”

“Fine. I’ll talk to her. You don’t know what she’s like—she gets so fucking emotional around me.”

“It doesn’t matter. The moment you stuck your dick in her she became your responsibility.”

Ryan failed to suppress a laugh. “
Stuck my dick in her?
Really?”

Josh shrugged his shoulders. “
Fucked her
then. Whatever.”

Ryan shook his head with disbelief. “You know, how is it that you can manage to make me laugh even in the crappiest of situations?”

“I’m your best fucking friend. That’s why. Now get your coat and hurry up. Shaye is waiting and she’s not the most patient woman.”

“Oh, I know,” Ryan said as he shrugged on his jacket.

Josh watched him glancing around the room, searching.

He stepped forward and held out what he knew he was looking for. “Here.”

Ryan smiled when he saw his sunglasses. He took them and slipped them on. “Thanks.”

“So you’ll stay with us tonight and you’ll eat a real meal for once. Okay?”

“Yeah. Okay.”

Josh wrapped his arm around him and led him to the door. “It’s gonna be okay, Ry. You’re not alone.”

CHAPTER 6

Luca opened his eyes to find Cora lying on top of him, her striking, blue eyes staring at him.

“Evening,” he said, smiling in surprise. “Hungry, are you?”

She nodded and writhed against him and that was when he realized she was naked. He felt her soft breasts pushing against his chest, her wet pussy pressing into his boxers as she rolled her hips. She flashed him a seductive smile.

He couldn’t help himself. He fisted his hand in her hair and pulled her into him, taking her in a soft kiss. She deepened it quickly, thrusting her tongue into his mouth and tasting him ravenously. Her silky, black hair fell forward, enclosing them in a soft curtain. He licked her neck and she moaned in pleasure. He grazed her flesh with his teeth, wanting desperately to bury his fangs there. But he knew he couldn’t—she was too new. He couldn’t drink from her yet. She whimpered as he pulled away.

“Bite me,” she begged.

Fuck.
“No, little one. It’s too soon.”

She whimpered again and he silenced her by flipping her onto her back and pinning her beneath him. He captured her wrists above her head with one hand. His other trailed down her body, her neck, her breasts, her stomach, until he reached the apex of her thighs. He stopped and gazed at her.

“Don’t tease me,” she panted, writhing beneath him.

He chuckled and drew his finger along her slit. “Mmm…you’re desperate for me, aren’t you?”

“Yes. I want you.”

He crawled up her body and drew his finger, slick with her arousal, across her bottom lip. He watched in wonder as her tongue darted out and licked it away. “Open,” he commanded.

She opened her mouth wide and he pushed his finger inside. Her gorgeous, full lips closed around it and she sucked hard. Her grip was incredible and he grunted, his cock straining against his boxers as he imagined her sucking a lot more than just his finger.

He pulled away and pushed his boxers down, not even bothering to pull them all the way off. He couldn’t wait another second. He tightened his grip on her wrists and then thrust inside her. She screamed in pleasure as he pounded into her. She was wilder than the last time. A lot wilder. She met him thrust for thrust with ease and with everything he gave her, she just wanted more. She wanted it harder, rougher.

He lowered his neck to her mouth and gestured with his eyes. Her eyes lit up excitedly and he watched the demon rise to the surface. Her baby fangs dropped. She hesitated and looked to him for his reassurance.

“Feed, little one.”

She smiled and buried her fangs in his neck. He grunted at her harsh, inexperienced bite ripping through his flesh. As soon as she tasted his blood on her tongue, she came hard, her pussy convulsing around his cock in violent shockwaves of pleasure. The sensation was incredible.

“Yes! Drink, Cora! Harder!” he cried out.

She obeyed instantly and sucked so fucking hard that the sudden pain sent him over the edge. He released himself inside her, roaring as he rode the wave of his orgasm.

“Amazing,” he breathed as he released her wrists. He reached for the back of her head and said gently, “Stop now. That’s enough.”

This time she obeyed him immediately and pulled back. He smiled at the sight of his little vampire with blood dripping from her mouth, her eyes wide and glazed over with the heady sensation of a feed. He licked it away and she murmured agreeably. “Good girl,” he told her. “You’re learning quickly.”
Quicker than any other vampire, actually. It usually takes weeks to teach a baby vampire to pull back when they’re feeding.

“I liked that a lot.”

He grinned. “I know. I felt it.”

“Don’t pull out yet.”

“I hadn’t planned on it.”

“Good,” she said, wrapping her arms around his neck. “Don’t go to them.”

“Who, little one?”

“Those girls.”

Ah, yes.
His vampire vixens.
She’s jealous?
“I need to feed.”

“Why don’t you feed from humans? Why those…whores?”

Whores? Harsh. Yep, she’s definitely jealous.
“I can’t have human blood around here right now.”

“Why?”

“Because, you’re too new. You won’t be able to control the hunger. It was easier to remove the temptation. One thing at a time, little one,” he said, stroking her silky hair.

“Oh,” she said shyly. “Well, do you…fuck those vampires that you feed from?”

He shook his head. “No.”
Not anymore. Not since that first night we made love. There has been no one else.

“Do you want to?”

He saw the look in her eyes—a flicker of desire, perhaps?
Interesting.
“Do
you
want to?”

“No!” she cried. “I only want you!” she proclaimed fiercely, pulling him closer.

He chuckled. He knew she was lying. He’d expected this from her. Her sexual hunger as a new vampire was such that he’d prepared himself for her desire to experiment, to want other things. And he didn’t have a problem with that—well, within reason. He’d have to be part of it. But even as her Sire, he knew he couldn’t control her urges—they were too strong. He couldn’t stifle her like that. He had to allow it, but damned if he wouldn’t exert as much control as he could over it. His first priority was to protect her—even if it meant protecting her from herself. The bond between them was incredibly strong, even stronger than he’d anticipated. And as needy as she was with him, he was just as needy with her, albeit he played it closer to his chest. He had to maintain control when he was around her. Her survival depended on him doing so.

He pulled out and slipped his boxers back on and then climbed off the bed.

“I won’t be long. And after that I’ll take you out. You’ve been cooped up in the mansion for long enough.”

Her hand shot out and gripped his arm fiercely. “No.”

His eyes narrowed at her insubordination. He could see the old her in her eyes—the feisty side of her that he hadn’t seen since before he’d turned her. The former no-nonsense, tough Cora. “Don’t displease me,” he warned.

Something flashed in her eyes. It was only brief but he caught it.
White light? No, it can’t be.
“No,” she repeated.

“You dare to defy your Sire?”

Her eyes flashed again.
Shit. It is white light. It’s overriding the Sire bond? How powerful is it to be able to do that? Impossible. I’m reading into it. Don’t be ridiculous.

“Feed here,” she said.

He cocked an eyebrow in surprise. “You want to watch me feed?”

She nodded. “Not with Vivian, though. I don’t like her.”

She doesn’t like how close we are. She knows she’s my favorite to feed from. And she must know we’ve fucked before. So, she’s remembering then? Already? Unbelievable.
“All right.”

She released his arm and breathed a relieved sigh.

He watched as she pulled the blankets up to her chest, protectively, shielding herself from him. “You know that you are the only one that I want, Cora?”

She nodded but there was uncertainty in her eyes.

“I mean it. I wouldn’t have turned you otherwise,” he said, perching on the edge of the bed beside her. He brushed his fingers across her cheek. “You are the only vampire I have ever Sired, Cora. That is how much you mean to me. I love you, little one.”

She turned into his hand, nuzzling him gently as she said, “I love
you
.”

They were the words that he’d been waiting to hear from her for so long. But as she said them he couldn’t help but wonder whether the fact that he was her Sire was influencing her. How real was it? There was no way to tell. But there was an odd emptiness to her words that only he could notice. She didn’t know any different. But
he
did. The way she’d said those three words hadn’t been the same way that she’d said them to Ryan. There was something missing.

He shook it off and climbed off the bed. He couldn’t do anything about it right now. When her dependence on him weakened over the next couple of weeks, then he’d know for sure. If she stayed with him, he’d know she truly cared for him. If she left to explore on her own, he’d know it was just the Sire thing.

“Tina!” he called out.

A moment later there was a knock at the door.

“Yes. Come in,” he answered.

A woman with wavy, blonde hair walked in. Her hazel eyes were hooded with desire. Luca heard Cora growling low in her throat with displeasure. He turned to her and shook his head in disapproval and she ceased her protests. Tina smiled kindly at her as she sat at the foot of the bed, her back to Cora. She wore nothing but a short, black robe that could barely contain her huge tits.

Luca perched beside her and pushed her robe off her right shoulder. He held Cora’s gaze as he called the demon forth and buried his fangs in Tina’s neck. She watched in awe for a few seconds before dropping the blankets from her chest and crawling across the bed naked, towards them. He pulled back from Tina. He wasn’t done feeding yet, but he was preoccupied watching Cora. He was curious to see what she would do.

Tina felt her approach and craned her neck to look at her. They smiled wickedly at one another. And then Cora hesitantly pulled Tina’s robe off her left shoulder. It caused her robe to slip down and pool around her waist. Cora licked her lips at the sight of her breasts. She brushed her hand over Tina’s right breast. She traced her index finger around her nipple before flicking it gently. Tina gasped at the sensation and gave Cora a nod of encouragement.

It was all she needed.

She pushed Tina back roughly onto the bed. Tina moved further up to give her room.

Luca watched with barely contained desire as Cora knelt between Tina’s legs and dropped her fangs, piercing the sensitive flesh of her inner thigh.
Fucking hell.
Tina came immediately from the sensation and bucked against Cora as she continued to drink from her.

“Pull back,” Luca commanded.

She obeyed and turned to him, flashing her fangs and smiling. She was high on blood and desire. And fuck if he wasn’t too. All three of them were.

He grabbed hold of her and positioned her so her head fell back over the bed. “Open wide.”

She smiled excitedly and complied. He slid his cock into her mouth and eyed Tina. “Pleasure her,” he commanded.

She pushed Cora’s legs apart and gripped them roughly, digging her nails into her thighs. Cora’s gasp was muffled by Luca’s cock pumping in and out of her mouth. She started in surprise as Tina flicked her clit with her tongue. She tried to move away, suddenly aware that it was a woman pleasuring her and not a man as she was used to.

“Relax. Let her please you,” Luca whispered as he gently kneaded her breasts. She calmed at his touch and gave herself over to Tina’s ministrations.

Luca picked up his pace, fucking her mouth ruthlessly. He could feel she was close to orgasm already. He grabbed Tina’s wrist and sank his fangs into her flesh. She came instantly again as he drew her blood into his mouth. Her breathy moans vibrating against Cora’s exposed, sensitive pussy sent her over the edge too. Her lips clamped down harder around his cock as her orgasm ripped through her, causing him to lose control and pump his cum down her throat.

He waited until she’d swallowed every drop of him and then he pulled out of her mouth.

All three of them collapsed onto the bed on a high of sex and blood.
