behind

stared

her

that

ust
need
rest,
but
sensing
she
wouldn’t
let that
happen
until
her
friend
was
safe.
The
cat

oved
to
the
end
of
the
bed,
casual

y
taking
in
her

urroundings.
Licking
a
paw
and

wiping
it
over
her
face,
she
began
to
answer
the
question
he had
asked.

“Forgive

for
being
the
bearer
of
bad
news,
but
there
are
others
with
special
abilities beside

u

So

e

u
s
come
to
Upper
World
who
act
as
protectors,
as
I
do.
Hu
m
ans
can
be cruel
and
destructive.
Unlike

n

Meeka
is
neither.
She
has
no
awareness
of
her
talents

her gifts,”
Catz
explained.

not
understand
or
see
that

stared
in

learned

Kerrigan
turned
his
stare
to
the
sleeping
form
in
his
old
bed.
What

ess
his
surrogate father
had
gotten

all
into.
Kerrigan
could
sense
the
extreme
tur
m

l
in
the
girl’s

m
o
tions, but
he
couldn’t
sense
a
n
y
presence
of
m
ag

c
in
her.
