Syn laid Furi’s tired body on the
couch and took a breath against the side of his face. “I’m so sorry
I was late. I’m so sorry.”

Furi dropped his hand on Syn’s back as
he rested his forehead on Furi's shoulder. “You were right on time,
Syn. It’s okay. I’m okay.” He really was okay, just so exhausted he
could probably sleep for days.

God and Day came back in with the
other officers and Furi grunted, struggling to sit up. Syn rested
his hand on Furi’s chest. “Don’t try to move, baby.”

Furi turned his head as Patrick was
aggressively ushered out in handcuffs right before paramedics came
in with a stretcher for Brenden.

Is he dead?” Furi asked
with little to no feeling. He kind of hoped he was.

No,” Day told him. "Just
unconscious. When he wakes, he can join his brother
downtown."

A paramedic came over to Furi but he
waved him away. Syn protested but Furi didn’t want to be prodded
right then. He felt he just needed rest. The cuts and bruises would
heal on their own with a little bit of Syn's TLC.

The stoner neighbor came out of the
kitchen with two other officers. A paramedic had put a butterfly
bandage above his eyebrow but he looked fine. Syn stood up and put
his hand out to him. “I have no words to thank you. I have no
words.” Syn’s voice was husky with emotion. “If it weren't for you
Furi might be–” Syn choked on the last word.

It’s all good, dude.
Don’t sweat it. I gave my statement to the cops, so–” He trailed
off and ran his hand over his stringy hair, barking a humorless
laugh. “I was actually coming over to be a dick and yell at
you
to turn the music
down when I heard him screaming. I’m just glad you’re alright,
man.” Stoner looked at Furi and gave him a quick nod before leaving
the apartment.

You’ve gotta get that guy
a coupon for unlimited free pizza deliveries or some shit like
that,” Day said while flipping through some paperwork one of the
officers handed him.

Sergeant Sydney I’m going
to need you to come down to the precinct and fill out–”

We’ll take care of it,”
God cut off the young officer. “First he’s going to take his
partner to the hospital. Everything else can wait.”

But,
Lieutenant.”

He said it can wait.”
Day’s stern voice brooked no further argument. The officer took the
clipboard from Day and left with the other officers. Just as the
door was about to close, more of God and Day’s men came thundering
in like a storm.

Son of a bitch,” Ronowski
grumbled.

That fuckin bastard,”
Ruxs added.

Did you get women that
tailed us?” God asked Ronowski.

Yeah. We got 'em. I sent
Jonas and Horne back to process them to make sure they’re properly
charged."

The men were all staring sadly at Furi
while they gave God an update.

Furi hadn’t seen his face
but he was sure he had some bruises from all the blows he'd taken.
“I’m alright fellas.” Furi managed a slight smile but he
was
having a hard time
breathing. “It’s not as bad as it looks. You should see the other
guys.”

Day went down on one knee and looked
over Furi’s face. “You’re in pain.” Turning his attention to Syn he
asked with sincerity. “May I?”

May he what?

Syn nodded his head and Day slowly
began to pull up Furi’s shirt.

Oh.

Syn’s pained frown told Furi how bad
his torso must look. Day pressed and grazed certain areas, a hiss
escaping Furi’s tight mouth. When Day applied a little pressure to
Furi’s ribs, he wished he had been able to contain the scream but
he couldn’t. The agony was clear in his voice.

Enough,” Syn
snapped.

He has broken ribs.” Day
stood back up. “Can you carry him to the truck?”

Yes.” Syn carefully
pulled Furi’s shirt down and Furi caught his hand before he could
pull back. He knew Syn was blaming himself for this, and it was
killing Furi to see such hurt on Syn’s face. He mouthed 'I love
you' and Syn squeezed his hand and brought it to his lips kissing
his knuckles. “I love you too,” he whispered.

Ro grab that quilt off
the top shelf in the front closet,” Syn said. He took the offered
blanket and wrapped it around Furi. “I’m gonna be as gentle as I
can, okay baby?”

Furi nodded and gritted his teeth when
Syn lifted him. Searing pain shot through his body but he kept his
grunts to a minimum as he tried to appear tough in front of all the
big bad Detectives. One of the task force members opened the door
and Syn eased him through it, making his way down the hall. Furi
kept his head buried in Syn’s shoulder while in the elevator and
Syn leaned his head into him.

I missed you while I was
gone,” Syn whispered, holding him as tight as he could without
hurting him.

Furi smiled tiredly against Syn’s
neck. “I missed you baby.”

Next thing he knew he was being placed
gingerly in the back seat of one of the fleet of Suburbans in front
of Syn’s building. The sun was just coloring the sky in its
majestic oranges and purples. If it was any other time, Furi
would’ve stopped to enjoy it.

Syn slid in the backseat and laid
Furi’s head in his lap. Furi didn’t remember much else after that.
He was so fatigued, he finally let sleep claim him as he rode to
the hospital, knowing that he was truly safe now.

Embrace Syn’

Furi turned toward the heat pressing
into his side and yelped at the pain that jerked him fully awake.
“Shit.”

Easy, Furi.” Syn’s groggy
voice was in his ear. Syn stroked his palm over his chest. “Do you
need something? Can I get you another pain pill?”

I need you,” Furi
groaned.

Syn chuckled against his face. “Not
for a while, love.”

Furi grumbled some obscenities while
his cock ached between his legs. When they’d gotten back from the
hospital it was almost nine a.m. but Furi had insisted on
showering. Although his ribs were freshly wrapped, he’d told Syn to
unwrap them. He’d refused to get in bed without washing the smell
and the memory of the night off. Syn had thrown the sheets away and
remade the bed for him, and Furi loved him even more for it. He
slept hard and long. He’d hoped Syn had kept his promise and called
Doug.

Did you call
Doug?”

Yes,” Syn groaned. “He’ll
be over when he leaves the shop. I told him you were fine and that
Patrick was in jail. He wanted to come as soon as you got back this
morning but I told him you were crashing.”

Okay,” Furi said softly.
He felt bad about the whole thing. He’d caused all the people that
cared for him so much anguish. He wanted to stop being such a
burden.

Hey. Why all the sulking?
Knock it off. I already know how your mind works. And if you’re
even
thinking
of
entertaining the thought that you wished you’d never caused any of
this, you’re about to get socked in the balls again.”

Furi chuckled. Syn was right. He
couldn’t think that way. He should just be thankful he had found
such a wonderful family.

No. You can’t hit my
balls but you can touch them like this.” Furi spread his legs and
cupped his balls, rolling them around in his fist.

You’d better fuckin’
stop,” Syn murmured against his cheek.

Or else what?” Furi
moaned.

Or else those ribs are
never going to heal,” Day yelled from in the hall. “Now cut that
shit out porn puppy and come eat, we bought you guys some
lunch.”

Damn you, Day,” Syn
yelled. “I thought we were clear on the knocking first!”

Furi lifted the covers off him and
slowly brought his legs over the edge of the bed, the exertion from
those simple tasks making beads of sweat pop up on his forehead.
“Mmmm. They can barge in as much as they want as long as they
always bring food. Come on. Lunch sounds good, I’m
starving.”

If this is what we have
to deal with to get food then I’d rather grocery shop and cook
myself,” Syn grumbled.

You need to buy some
groceries anyway,” Furi admonished.

Syn grunted some choice curse words
and kicked his covers off like a petulant child.

I’ll even go with you to
help ease the pain. That way you don’t end up with a cabinet full
of Chef Boyardee and Spam.” Furi blew a kiss at Syn when Syn
flipped him off.

Be nice baby or I won’t
cook for you,” Furi purred while looking up at Syn who’d eased
between his spread legs.

You sure you want to get
up? I can bring it to you.” Syn smoothed his hand over Furi’s
hair.

No. I’m getting up. I’m
fine, Syn. Don’t start fussing like a mother hen,” Furi said with a
cheeky smile. He rose little by little from the bed and braced
himself before he took the first step. Syn was there with a hand on
his back ready to fully support him. “Just lean on me baby, I got
you.” Syn wrapped Furi’s arm around his neck and took slow steps
with him down the hall.

Furi stared at his man for a few
minutes, in complete awe at how lucky he’d gotten. Finally the
fates had smiled on him. When he’d first seen the mysteriously dark
Detective at the end of the bar, he’d told himself that getting
involved with him would be a huge mistake, and he’d fought Syn the
best he could. But he was drawn to him. Like a moth to a flame. It
just didn’t get any better than Sergeant Corbin Sydney and Furi was
ready to fully embrace this relationship, ready to fully embrace
Syn.

'You
Cook For Us, Bitches'

Hey you,” Syn
whispered

Hey yourself.”

Are you’re sure you
okay?” Syn asked, helping Furi loosen his tie.

I’m better than okay. We
got the guilty verdict, right? The thought of Patrick and Brenden’s
sadistic asses in a filthy jail cell for the next fifteen years
makes me very okay.” Furi gave Syn his most reassuring smile and it
seemed to do the trick. They’d all testified over the length of the
three-day trial, but Furi’s testimony had sealed the brothers'
fate. There was no way they’d have beaten those charges, but Furi
had still held his breath until the jury foreman said the words:
"Guilty on all counts."

Furi took the tie and hung it in his
walk-in closet. Most of his clothes were in his newly renovated
loft above the shop, but he still had a dresser at Syn’s place too.
If Furi was extremely tired from a long day in the shop, then
simply going upstairs to his apartment and taking a hot shower made
things much easier. What was even nicer was when Syn used the back
stairs and surprised Furi. When he’d finally come up from work and
the hot man was already there waiting for him in his bed or simply
lying on his sectional watching a game.

Furi removed his slacks and replaced
them with a pair of his work jeans and then his
coveralls.
