“Who set the alarm?” He certainly didn’t remember doing it.

“I did.” Nik sat up and stretched, displaying a lot of pale skin to Bobby’s devouring gaze.

“Why?” He muttered, not really listening for an answer.

Bobby trailed his fingers over Nik’s stomach and down the thin line of hair leading under the blankets. Nik shifted closer, allowing Bobby to slip his hand in between his legs to cup his balls. He squeezed gently, and Nik moaned.

“I have classes today.” Nik spread his thighs and rocked into Bobby’s hand.

“Really?” He slid his fingers further down to rub over Nik’s hole while he sucked on Nik’s nipple.

“Umm…yes?”

He chuckled and pressed his finger inside Nik. “You don’t sound sure.”

Rocking, Nik groaned as he took a second finger. Bobby wrapped his other hand around Nik’s cock and pumped in time with Nik’s rhythm. God, he loved the sounds Nik made when he was coming. A twist of his hand over the top of Nik’s shaft gathered some pre-cum and eased the friction a little.

“Come on, baby,” he urged.

“Bobby!”

Nik climaxed and wet heat spilled over Bobby’s hand. He slowly eased off the strokes until Nik slumped back against the pillows and his cock softened.

“Good morning.” He brushed a kiss over Nik’s mouth before climbing out of bed to head towards the bathroom.

“What about you?” Nik gestured at Bobby’s erection.

“I’ll be all right. I can wait until we have enough time to take it slow. You need to get ready for the day.”

He cleaned up in the bathroom and headed back to pull on some jeans and a T-shirt.

Nik took a shower while Bobby made breakfast. His lover joined him at the table.

“Do you have everything you need for your classes, or do we need to stop by your house?” He scooped some eggs onto his toast and took a bite.

“No. I have what I need. I’ll be taking the journal with me, so I can study it more.” Nik shifted. “What are you doing today while I’m teaching students?”

After taking a sip of his orange juice, he grinned. “I plan on turning in my vacation forms then I’ll take Jablonsky out to lunch. I want to know if he’s found anything out about the auction and auctioneer. That’s after I drop you off at the university, because I’m not letting you take that journal on the bus. I shouldn’t even be letting you take it anywhere. I should have turned it in to Jablonsky the moment I knew you had it.”

Nik shook his head. “I need to study it more. The answers are in that journal, Bobby, and I just need to dig a little deeper. You can give it to your partner when I’m done, and you don’t have to escort me, Bobby. I can take the bus.”

“No. I told you before, I don’t like you taking public transportation.” He cleaned his plate and stood, taking it to the sink where he rinsed it before putting it in the dishwasher.

“Okay. I’ll let you ‘borrow’ it for another day, but after that, I’m turning it over to Jablonsky.

One more day, Nik, and until I turn it in, I’m making sure you and it are safe.”

“I think you’re a snob and spoiled from driving that car of yours around,” Nik teased.

They cleaned up the kitchen, moving around each other like they’d been together for years. Bobby put on his boots and grabbed his keys as he waited by the door for Nik.

“Ready?”

“Yeah.” Nik rewrapped the journal and carefully placed it in his backpack before leading the way out.

Bobby stared at Nik’s firm ass covered in khaki fabric as they went downstairs to the parking lot. They got in the car and headed towards the university.

“Call me when you’re done for the day, and I’ll come pick you up.” He stopped in front of the history building.

Nik rolled his eyes, but didn’t say anything as he started to leave the car. Bobby reached out and grabbed Nik’s arm, tugging him back for a kiss.

“I love you,” he murmured against Nik’s lips.

“Love you too.” Nik blushed and exited the Camaro in a hurry.

Bobby waited until Nik entered the building before he drove away.

Forty minutes later, he stepped off the elevator onto the Homicide floor. He nodded to several of his fellow detectives while heading to his desk. The appropriate forms rested in the middle of his blotter. Jablonsky wasn’t around, so Bobby started filling out the papers for his vacation.

By the time he finished all of the forms, Jablonsky was back.

“You hand in those papers yet?”

“No. Just signing my name to them. I’ll drop them off to the lieutenant in a minute.”

He glanced around. “Can I buy you some coffee? Maybe an early lunch?”

“Sounds good to me. I’ll meet you downstairs at your car.” Jablonsky strolled from the room without looking back.

Bobby gathered his forms and went to the lieutenant’s office, knocking on the door.

“Come in,” she called.

“Here’s my vacation requests, Lieutenant.” He set them on her desk.

She nodded. “I’ll sign them and make sure they get filed right away. As of right now, you’re on paid vacation for how many weeks?” She shot him a look.

“Ah…I think I have three weeks coming to me.”

“Three weeks is fine. Of course, if something comes up before that, then we’ll see.”

“Yes, ma’am.” Bobby smiled slightly and left her office.

Jablonsky was standing next to Bobby’s car when he got downstairs. His partner knew better than to lean against the Camaro. Bobby waved his hand towards the car.

“Get in. We’ll go to that deli you like so much, and you can tell me what you know.”

“Are you lodging a complaint about being taken off the case?” Jablonsky shook his head.

“No. I’m using my vacation time. The lieutenant didn’t have a problem with it.”

Driving to the deli, he parked.

They waited until they were seated and had their coffee before continuing the conversation.

“Did you tell the lieutenant where you got the information about the auction house?”

Jablonsky shook his head. “No. I told her I figured it out through the process of elimination. I went to talk to the auctioneer. Guess what I found him doing when I got there.”

“I can’t begin to guess.”

“He was burning some papers.” Jablonsky shook his head. “Not sure what else he managed to burn, but I rescued this from him. I made a copy for you since I had to log it in as evidence.”

“Good man.”

He took the copy from Jablonsky and scanned it quickly. “Fuck, did you see the names on this list?”

“Yeah. Unfortunately, it was on fire when I got there, so the bottom half of the sheet is gone. Which is irritating because what if the person we’re looking for was on the list?”

Bobby checked the names again. “Thompson’s name is on here, along with Vanderlist.

Do you think the men on this list are members of that society?”

“Makes sense. When I pressed the auctioneer, he said that the person who put the casks up for sale set it up as a private invitation only auction. He was sent that list of potential buyers. No one else could bid or was allowed into the auction.”

Sipping his coffee, Bobby thought for a few minutes. He sighed and looked at Jablonsky.

“Guess I know what I’ll be doing during my vacation.”

His partner grinned. “I don’t envy you.”

“I really didn’t want to spend my free time trailing Vanderlist around.” He folded the list and tucked it in his pocket. “Did you get me the licence numbers for his vehicles and the addresses of places I could find him?”

“Yeah. Here you go. I’d have emailed them to you, but I know how much you hate checking your email.” Jablonsky smirked at him.

He flipped the man off before grabbing the paper and going over the addresses. “I’ll have to go to my place and get my camera.”

“Do you really think Vanderlist would have killed his own daughter?” Jablonsky kept his voice low.

Bobby shrugged. “We’ve seen it before. Even rich guys kill their families. He has some big secrets to hide. What if his daughter found out he was a member of that society?”

“I guess that would be a reason to kill her. It would ruin him if it got out that he liked boys.” Jablonsky stared down into his cup. “Did you see some of those names, Bobby? Some pretty well known men are on there. What would happen if that list got leaked?”

“It better not get leaked. We can’t risk Vanderlist running. If he is the murderer, I need to get proof for you before more people die. Especially in such a gory manner.”

“The wine is causing it?” Jablonsky didn’t sound like he believed it.

“That’s what Nik thinks. The test shows that there is human DNA in the wine, so someone’s blood got mixed in with it. I still don’t understand how it worked, but everything we’ve learned says that it drove someone mad when it was first bottled. I don’t doubt it could cause someone to kill now.”

Bobby pushed to his feet, throwing money on the table to cover their coffee. He and Jablonsky shoved their way through the growing crowd until they were outside.

“I’ll grab a cab back to the precinct. You might want to start following Vanderlist around this afternoon. See if he does anything suspicious during the day.”

“Thanks. I’ll call you later, if I get anything you should know.”

They shook hands and Jablonsky headed off to flag down a cab. Bobby jumped in his car, planning his course of action. Stopping by his apartment for his camera was first on his list, before tracking Vanderlist down and dogging his every step until the case broke.

Trailing Vanderlist would cut into his time with Nik, but he hoped his lover would understand.

Bobby’s phone rang and as he picked it up, he glanced at his watch. It had to be Nik.

“Hello?”

“Hey.”

Nik’s voice caused Bobby’s heart to skip a beat and he rolled his eyes at himself. When had he turned into a sap?

“How’d your classes go, Professor Radin?” He set his camera down on the passenger seat and started his car.

“Good. Some kids really listened. Others are there for the credits, not for the knowledge.”

“Sounds like it’s been a normal day.”

Checking behind him, he pulled into traffic. He’d pick up Nik, and grab dinner before taking him home. He had to get back to Vanderlist’s house before the man decided to go out for the night.

Nik chuckled. “You’re right. It was a normal day. How was yours?”

“I need to talk to you about that.” He stopped at a light and frowned. “I won’t be able to stay in with you tonight. I have to tail Vanderlist to see if I can get anything on him.”

“Okay.” Disappointment coloured Nik’s words.

“Jablonsky got a list from the auction place that was on the invitation. Vanderlist and Thompson were on it. I think it might be a list of society members. The auctioneer was burning it when Jablonsky got there.”

The sharp inhale of breath told Bobby that Nik recognised the significance of the list.

“The killer could be listed.”

“Yeah. Unfortunately the bottom part of the paper was burnt, so we’re missing half the names.” Bobby switched lanes. “Sorry about tonight. Just one of the perks of dating a cop.”

“I understand. I might not like it, but I can deal with it as long as you come back and sleep with me when you’re done.”

He smiled. “I think I can do that.”

“Good. This killer needs to be caught, and if that means we don’t get to spend every waking minute together, I’ll sacrifice until you take him down.”

“I knew there was a reason why I fell in love with you.”

It was getting easier to say. He glanced at the street sign as he passed it.

“Hey, I’m about twenty minutes away. I’ll pick you up and we can grab dinner before I get back to my post.”

“I love you too. I’ll be waiting outside. See you soon.”

Nik hung up and Bobby set his phone in the console between the seats. He would make sure to take his time at dinner. No point rushing through it. He wanted to spend as much time with Nik as he could. It was a sure sign he was in love.

* * * *

Nik licked the barbeque sauce from his fingers, eyeing the mound of rib bones. “I won’t be able to eat anything else for a week.”

“You keep licking those fingers like that, and I have a feeling you’ll be eating something else before you leave this table.”

Nik chuckled. Bobby loved having his cock sucked. It had become one of their favourite pastimes. They’d retire to the couch after dinner and pretend to watch television.

Of course Nik’s head was usually busy bobbing up and down in his lover’s lap by the second commercial break. Nik couldn’t remember the last time he’d actually watched a full programme from beginning to end.

Finished with dinner, Nik stood and straddled Bobby’s lap. “You needing?”

“Wanting is more like it. The blow job you gave me in the car earlier was only the second one that Camaro has ever played a part in.”

Nik stuck his fingers in his ears. “La la la. I can’t hear you.”

Chuckling, Bobby reached out and pulled Nik’s hands down. “I’ve had that car for a lot of years. Too many for you to get jealous over what I did or didn’t do in it with an old lover.”

Nik wiggled his ass as he rubbed his hands against Bobby’s chest. “Sorry. Doesn’t matter. I’d much rather pretend I’m your one and only.”

Bobby put his hand to the back of Nik’s neck and pulled him in for a kiss. “You are my one and only.”

“Mmmm.” Nik moaned as he kissed his lover again, sliding his tongue across Bobby’s.

“Are you sure you don’t want company on your stakeout?”

Bobby squeezed Nik’s ass. “How much surveying do you think the two of us would get done if we were shut up together in a car all night?”

Nik knew it wasn’t practical, but he’d gotten used to his evenings with Bobby. “I guess I’ll have to entertain myself then.”
