I decided to call Jessica and see what she was doing.

“Hey Baby, wassup, are you on break?” she asked sounding a little out of breath.

“Yea I had to go across town to pick something up for the boss.  What you doing?” I asked.

“Nothing just watching TV,” she said.

“You been home all night?” I asked.

“Well yea!  Where do I need to go when I have to work in the morning?” she asked.

       “By yourself?” I asked.

“Yea, was someone supposed to be coming over?” she asked.

Right then a red flag went up because why wouldn’t she tell me that Ant was here?  If he was here waiting for me, which he shouldn’t have been because I was at work, but she should have at least mentioned it to me.  I’m not sure why she didn’t say anything to me about it but I promised myself that I would get to the bottom of it though.

“Well let me get back to work, I’ll see you when I get off,” I said.

“Okay Babe, I love you,” she cooed.

“Yea, I love you too Jessica,” I said.

I hung the phone up feeling puzzled but determined to find out what went on here.

CHAPTER EIGHTEEN-SHANIQUA

I had been waiting to hear from Ant for the longest time; he’s been home for a whole month and I still had not seen him at all.  He said he would come over but still haven’t made it over here yet.  Our baby was due soon and I needed him to show me some damn support.  Instead of being over here for me he was over there fuckin’ that fat girl.  He was proving my mom was right and that he really didn’t care about me or our baby.  I had found out a few months ago that I was having a little boy and I wanted our son to know his dad but that obviously wasn’t going to happen.

I decided to call him and see what the hell was going on with him.  I figured he would send my call to voicemail but he surprised me by answering on the third ring.

       “Wassup,” he answered.

“Hey Baby I was wondering if you could come by today so I could talk to you, please,” I begged.

“Well I ain’t doing nothing right now so I guess I could swing by.  Is your mom home because I do not feel like hearing her gums flap about bullshit!” he said.

“No she’s at work.  I didn’t go to school today because I didn’t feel good.  So are you coming by?” I asked.

“Yea, I’m on my way!” he said.

I hung up the phone and began to try and make myself presentable to him.  I was nine months pregnant and I knew I wasn’t sexy anymore but I just wanted him to think I was at least cute.  I pulled on a pair of tights and a big t-shirt and went to wait for him in the living room.  After about thirty minutes I heard a car in the driveway and went to peek through the blinds.  Ant looked so good that my heart began to pound and my pussy began to throb.  It amazed me how my body still reacted to him after all we been through.

He rang the doorbell and I rushed to open the door.  I threw the door open and wrapped my arms around him.  I missed this man so much.  I invited him in and he looked surprised to see how big my stomach was.  As I sat myself on the sofa, he sat in the chair across from me.  I wanted to be next to him so I sat on the ottoman near the chair.

       “You’re so big!” he said.

“Yea well I’m due any day!” I said.

“Really?  I didn’t know you were that far along,” he said.

“Yes and guess what!” I said.

       “What?” he asked.

       “You’re gonna have a son; I’m having a boy!” I said happily.

“Oh Wow!  That’s pretty cool!” he said but his words didn’t match the expression on his face.  He actually looked bored, like he didn’t give a shit or couldn’t wait to get out of here.

“Aren’t you happy?  I mean your first child will be a son!  Maybe we can name him Antoine Jr.!” I said trying to keep the excitement that was quickly fading in my voice.

       “Yea maybe,” he said.

“Baby don’t you miss me?  I miss you so much!” I said sadly as a tear escaped my eye.

“You know we had a good thing going Shaniqua until you got yourself pregnant!  Why weren’t you on the pill or something?  We could have still been kickin’ it if you hadn’t done me like that!” he said.

“Wait a minute!  You’re blaming me for getting pregnant!  I didn’t get pregnant by myself Ant!  You could have used a condom!” I cried.

I couldn’t believe he was blaming me and putting this whole pregnancy on me, like I did it on purpose.  I never wanted to get pregnant but I did and it wasn’t my fault; we both did it!  I had no idea finding out I was pregnant would make him act this way.  I didn’t plan to get pregnant; we were just having fun and it happened.  This pregnancy was the last thing I wanted but my son was about to be born and I couldn’t wait because I loved him already.

Ant got up to leave and I stood before him and wrapped my arms around his waist.

“Please don’t go yet; you just got here!  Just hold me for a little while and let me know that things will be okay!  Please be here for me and for our son!  I need you!” I begged.

He put his arms around me and held me and it felt so good.  I couldn’t believe how much I missed his arms around me.  I still loved him and wanted to be with him.  Why didn’t he want me?  Is it because I was too young?

“I love you Ant!  I really love you and I want us to raise our child together.  I need you to be there for me when I deliver!  Please say you’ll be there!” I cried and begged him.

He kissed me on the forehead and released his grip saying, “I’ll holla at you later.”

And just like that he jumped in his car and left, leaving me standing in the doorway crying my heart out.  How could he be so heartless and just walk out on me?  My mom was right about him and I needed this eye opener so I could stop dreaming.  He was not going to be here for me or our son.  I was going to be a single mom!

CHAPTER NINETEEN- ANTOINE

I had to get out of Shaniqua’s clutches because she wanted more from me than I was prepared to give.  I couldn’t be a father right now, especially not with her.  Shaniqua was young and immature and had I known sooner I would have given her money for an abortion because we were not ready to be parents.  Don’t get me wrong, when she said she was having a son I almost broke but I am not daddy material, not yet anyway.

I pulled up to Megan’s house and knocked on the door.  She opened it to let me in and there was soft music, lit candles, and it smelled good as hell up in here.  I knew that something was up with her as soon as I walked in but I didn’t know what.

“Hey Meg, what’s up with all this?” I asked.

“I just wanted to cook for my man.  Is there something wrong with that?” she asked.

“Nah I just know when somebody cooking for you like that with candles and shit, something up so why don’t you just spit it out?” I asked.

“Well I really wanted to wait until after we ate but I’m pregnant!” she said happily throwing herself in my arms.

       “Pregnant!  You’re pregnant?” I asked.

She pulled back from my embrace and looked as if she were trying to read my face.

“Babe I know this is a shock because it was a shock to me too but I’m happy!” she said.

“Uh ya think!  When did you find this out?” I asked.

“I’ve known for a couple of months but I couldn’t tell you when you had just gotten back because you were running the streets.  Then we you would come back home I’d get cold feet.  My nerves were so bad ya know? I mean I didn’t expect to get pregnant at this time in my life but I’m happy.  We can have our baby and raise him or her together!” she said happily.

“Yea but I live with my mom Megan and sometimes I’m at work for three to six months at a time.  How fair is that to a child?” I kinda lied about the three to six months stint at work.  I wish a nigga would ask my ass to stay offshore that long, shit not me!  The three months I was out there was a killer because I normally stayed only two to three weeks.  The only reason I stayed that long was to get away from Shaniqua and her mom, now here Megan was telling me she was pregnant too.  What the fuck I’ma do with two babies?

“Ant you could move in here and we could take care of each other.  I don’t know where things are headed with us but you’ve been here ever since you came home so you may as well just move in,” she said.

“I don’t know, this is kinda sudden,” I said.

Truth was I wouldn’t mind living here with her because she lived in a nice area, her place was off the chain and she paid all the bills.  I thought about giving her some money the first night I came back but after all the questioning she did and the way I had to beg her ass to trust me, I kept my shit for the aggravation she caused me.  And now here she was talkin’ bout she was pregnant.  Man, didn’t these women know how to protect themselves!

She went to the foyer and dug in her purse for something.  She came back and handed me a keyring with a gold key on it.

       “What’s this?” I asked.

“I really would like you to move in with me.  Please Ant, I will need the help during my pregnancy plus I love having you here!” she said.

“So are you saying you want me to quit my job?” I asked.

Man this shit just kept getting better and better.  Not only does she want me to move in but she wants to take care of me too.  I had to think about that one because if I quit my job that meant I wouldn’t have my own money and have to be put on some damn allowance and I wasn’t having that shit!

“Who said anything about you quitting your job Silly!  Once I go on maternity leave we will need your income to help pay the bills!” she said.

Awww shit!  A nigga hadn’t even moved in yet and she was already deep in my pockets.  I didn’t like where this was going but I would think about it.  Maybe moving in with her wouldn’t be so bad, of course I wasn’t making any promises to pay shit though.  She was doing it without me before so she shouldn’t have a problem doing it without me now.  Just because she went and got herself pregnant doesn’t mean I’m obligated to do shit!  These women think they slick; they want the dick but wanna pop up pregnant!

“I’ll think about it,” I said putting the key in my pocket.

Shaniqua had called my phone a few times today but I ignored her.  Then I got a call from a number I didn’t recognize so I answered.

       “Hello,” I answered.

“Hey Antoine, this Caramel,” she said.

“Hey wassup?” I was confused as to why she was calling me so I waited to hear what she had to say.

“I was just calling to let you know that Shaniqua had the baby and she’s at Charity Hospital,” Caramel said.

       “Oh okay,” I said.

“Is that all you’re gonna say?  She just had your baby Antoine, a beautiful little boy!  Don’t you even wanna know how she is or how the baby is?  Don’t you even care how much he weighs or if he’s okay?” she asked.

“Look I’m sure she’s fine otherwise you would have said she wasn’t.  But it’s good that she had the baby though because she was big as fuck and that had to be uncomfortable for her.  I’ma hit her up later,” I said.

“You are really a piece of work ya know?  A real asshole!” she shouted and hung up on me.

She had a lotta damn nerve going off on me and catching a fuckin’ attitude when she didn’t even know me.  I hadn’t seen that chick since we first met them on Canal and here she was calling me and going off on me like we were buddies and she was mad.  I was definitely gonna talk to Shine about his girl so he could put her ass in check!
