He winked at me then opened the door of his limo. I paused for a moment before getting in. I looked around the city, unsure
of what I was searching for. I took a moment to take it all in. There were so many people here. So many stories and so many secrets hidden within their hearts. And I was just the same as them. I didn’t know if I would ever have the heart to tell the story about Platinum and my experience but it didn’t matter. For now, I had to settle with being with the one man who made all of this worth it. The next story I wrote would find me like it always did.
I pushed in the door of the small boutique with my best friend Lauren just behind me.
“
Come on,” I motioned for her to follow me.
“
What is this place?”
As soon as we stepped inside, I saw the confused look on her face.
“Vicki, what are we doing here?”
“
What else? We’re going to do some shopping.”
“
Shopping? Here? Vicki, this place looks like a—”
Before my best friend could say what was on her mind, the store clerk stepped from behind the curtain to greet us. She smiled at me, squinting her eyes as she did so.
“You look familiar,” she said. “Have I seen you here before?”
“
No… No, you haven’t,” I told her.
“
Oh, well it’s always nice to see a new face. My name is Sarah.”
“
Hey, Sarah. I’m Victoria. This is Lauren.”
My blonde friend waved to the friendly woman then continued to browse the outfits.
“Nice to meet you, Victoria. Is there anything you were looking for in particular?”
“
No. My friend and I were just going to browse the racks and see if anything stood out.”
“
Okay! Go right ahead. Let me know if you need any help. The fitting rooms are right over there if you need to try anything on.”
I thanked Sarah and she disappeared into the back of the store. Lauren was browsing one of the racks when I walked up to her.
“Well, what do you think?” I asked her.
“
You’re serious.”
“
Yeah. Why not?”
“
Vicki, there’s nothing wrong with buying a little sexy lingerie every now and then but… this isn’t anything like you.”
“
I know. You’re right. It’s not like me at all. I figured that I would indulge myself. Why not? Is it wrong for me to want to feel sexy?”
“
No, of course not. But… Vicki, how did you find this place?”
I hadn
’t told Lauren the truth. She knew that I was a reporter and I often had to keep secrets. But I didn’t even give her a hint that I was working as a stripper at the most prominent club in the city.
“
What does that matter?” I said. “Isn’t this stuff great? That’s why I brought you here. I knew that you would be able to appreciate it.”
“
Yeah, it’s nice. I’m sure that some guy would be
dying
to get inside of me if he saw me in this.”
She pulled a lacy set from the rack and held it up to me. I nodded my head in approval of her taste. My best friend
’s confusion turned into excitement as she found more and more outfits that she wanted to try on. I did the same as she did, searching the racks for more things I could wear to Platinum.
I had more than enough reason to quit. I didn
’t know if I would be able to make any money. Luther said that he would support my decision either way and that we would always have fun. But I kept the job. Even though the story was still there, I told myself that it was more than that. The truth was that I enjoyed being free. The lustful stares of all of the men examining me did something to me. I craved being on stage and dancing in front of them. And I finally accepted it.
I looked over at my friend and saw her eyes widen as she pulled another outfit from the rack. She held it up in front of me and smiled.
“Crotchless,” she said. “I think this will come in handy.”
“
Yeah, that looks like something you’d be perfect in.”
“
So, does this mean we’re going out tonight, Vicki?”
“
Maybe. What exactly are we looking for?”
“
I don’t know. How about a good time?”
I laughed at my friend as she continued to search th
rough the racks.
“
That sounds like fun, Lauren. I can’t wait to see what we find. But first, I need to tell you about someone I met…”
