But what had really blown Michael away was the fact that Samantha knew that The Dark Angels were in the midst of planning a big gun deal right outside of town, possibly as soon as this weekend. Samantha knew this because she had a young cousin who was sleeping with one of The Dark Angels’ newest errand boys. The kid recently began working in the auto shop with Bear and Drifter, and his ears were as big as his fascination with the biker gang. He loved feeling like a part of the crew but had yet to learn discretion, and felt as though he would look like a tough gangster in front of Samantha’s cousin if he was in the know. So he made it a point to share with her everything that he’d overhear the prospective Angels discussing in the garage.

“I am so glad that I put in that call to Rothman asking for backup,” Michael said, still combing through Samantha’s file in amazement. “This information that you have here is priceless. This may very well be all that we need to crack this case. We could have it solved and be outta this hellhole by the weekend!” he exclaimed.

“Yes, we could,” Samantha laughed, so glad that she was able to be of assistance. Ever since she had arrived at the San Francisco office, she’d felt like an outsider who was trying to work her way into the in crowd. So she was happy when Special Agent Rothman called on her that day and asked her to join Michael in Amber to help out with this case. What was interesting, though, was that as she studied Bear’s background, Samantha felt as though she could relate to him. Just as she was working so hard to try and get in good with her colleagues in San Francisco, he was working hard in an attempt to be accepted by The Dark Angels. And as a former victim of rape herself, she even sympathized with him for the pain that he must have gone through after his sister had been attacked, and secretly admired the fact that he was bold enough to kill her attacking, if in fact he had done so. However, in spite of her compassionate feelings toward Bear, Samantha knew that she had been sent to Amber to do a job, and that’s exactly what she intended to do, whether she felt a connection with Bear or not.

When their food arrived, Samantha and Michael shifted gears and began discussing their jobs as Special Agents within the San Francisco office. Samantha was very appreciative of the opportunity to work with Michael on this case and told him so, especially because he was one of the more seasoned agents in the office and could show her the ropes and make her appear more approachable in front of the other agents. Michael seemed to be a good ice breaker, so she planned to use their developing professional relationship to her advantage. She shared with him what it was like working out in Philadelphia as well, and how much of a challenging adjustment it had been for her to move out west.

By the time they had finished eating and talking, Michael was completely exhausted and had a splitting headache. He’d been going nonstop all day and was ready to go back to the motel and get some rest. Samantha felt as though she was just getting started and wanted to head back into town and see what else she could find out. Michael was completely against it, telling her that he did not feel comfortable with the idea of her roaming around Amber alone. But Samantha laughed at him and told him that she was a toughie, not to mention she had her gun on her. So she would be able to take care of herself. Once Michael paid the bill, the pair got up and headed out to the parking lot. Michael climbed in his car and drove back to the motel to call it a night, and against his wishes, Samantha drove over to The Home Team bar to further investigate their case.

“I think this is it, man. I can just
feel
it,” Drifter told Bear.

“I think this is it, too,” Bear agreed, clapping his hands excitedly as he and Drifter headed inside of The Home Team bar for celebratory drinks. They had just gone to the storage unit and took inventory for the upcoming gun run and confirmed that every single firearm that was set to be sold was accounted for. They were both beyond thrilled, and when they called Chase to tell him the good news, Chase confirmed that the deal would go down that weekend.

When Bear and Drifter walked into the bar, they laid eyes on a tall, thin, beautiful blond with huge boobs, sitting at the bar and talking to Sam. Sam was just laughing away and fawning all over her, and the woman seemed just as amused and was being equally friendly toward him.

“Who is
that
?” Drifter muttered, staring at the woman with his mouth hanging open.

“I don’t know, but I’m about to find out,” Bear said, strutting over to the bar and standing next to the stool right next to the woman. He looked up at Sam, who looked back at him and smiled and winked. Bear then looked down at the woman, who had just turned around and blown him away with her huge, sparkling blue eyes.

“Hello,” she said, her tone filled with flirtation as her eyes roamed up and down Bear’s body.

“Hi,” Bear replied, smiling sexily before extending his hand. “I don’t believe we’ve met, and I thought I knew everyone in this town. I’m Bear.”

“It’s so nice to meet you, Bear. I’m Lori,” she replied as she shook his hand. What the two men didn’t know was that they were actually standing before Special Agent Samantha Conan, who had set a trap that they were both so easily walking into.

“And…and I’m Drifter,” he stammered, coming up behind Bear and extending his shaky hand.

Samantha shook Drifter’s hand as well, then turned back to Bear. “Why don’t you have a seat and let me buy you a drink?” she suggested. As Samantha continued to study Bear, she realized that his photos did him absolutely no justice whatsoever. In pictures, he appeared bland, pale and thin. But in person, his towering, muscular body, bronze skin and dirty blond hair resembled that of a pro surfer. His piercing gray eyes and keen features looked as though they could land him on a magazine cover, and his straight white smile could have been straight out of a Colgate ad. As Bear sat down in the stool next to her and her eyes traveled further down his body, she saw the undeniably big bulge that was protruding through his tight jeans and felt an undeniable twinge in between her legs.
Stay focused
, Samantha said to herself as she ordered Bear and Drifter two beers.

“So what brings you here to Amber?” Bear asked her. “It’s not often that we get to see a lady this pretty around these parts, so you must be here for something special.”

“You’re sweet,” Samantha blushed, looking down at her lap as she sincerely felt flattered. “I’m actually here doing some research on my family. It’s believe that my ancestors hail from Amber, so I’m going to spend some time in the library and see what I can dig up about them.”

“Yeah, I met your ex-boyfriend with this afternoon,” Sam chimed in. “I thought he was a Federal Agent or something. Good to know he was telling the truth. The last thing we need around here is the authorities trying to pry and get involved in Amber business.”

“That is definitely the last thing that we need. Especially right now when we’re so close to—” Drifter began. But when Bear threw him a look, he shut his mouth quickly and instead took a swig of beer.

“So anyway,” Bear said, turning back to Samantha and once again taking over the conversation, “That’s sounds really interesting. Maybe one day I can join you at the library and help you do some research. Then I can take you out to dinner afterwards.”

“That sounds really nice,” Samantha replied softly as she threw her hair back seductively over her shoulder.

“Oh shit,” Sam said as he glanced over by the door. “What the hell are they doing here?”

Bear and the rest of the group looked toward the front of the bar and saw three of The Dark Angels’ rival gang members walk inside and sit down at one of the corner tables in the back. Samantha studied them closely and realized that one of them was the brother of a notorious drug dealer who she had helped to bust last year out east. She shook her head at the sight of this young kid following in his brother’s footsteps, then turned back around and took a sip of her beer.

“Hey, you alright?” Bear asked her as Drifter and Sam continued to discuss why the gang members had come into the bar, which they knew was The Dark Angels’ territory.

“Of course!” Samantha said brightly, quickly snapping out of her melancholy moment. “So, I’m going to be at the library pretty early tomorrow morning. Would you like to meet me there?”

“I would love to,” Bear smiled, struggling not to stare down at her voluptuous tits. “Let me give you my cell phone number, and you can give me a call and let me know when you’re on your way there.

Both Bear and Samantha pulled out their phones and saved each other’s numbers in them. Then Samantha drained her bottle and got up from her stool. “It was so nice meeting you, Bear. And you too, Drifter. And of course you, Sam,” she smiled giving him a cute wink. Then she turned back to Bear. “I’m going to run to the ladies room and then get going so that I can get some rest and be up early tomorrow. I’ll call you and let you know what time to meet me. Okay?”

“Sounds good. But go ahead to the ladies room, and I’ll wait for you here. Once you’re done I’ll walk you out to your car.”

“Thank you,” Samantha smiled before she turned around and sashayed to the back of the bar.

Bear, Drifter and Sam watched her walk away, and the minute she entered the ladies room, they turned to one another and let out a series of loud howls.

“You lucky son of a bitch!” Sam said to Bear, slapping his shoulder from across the bar.

“Yeah, you always get the girls!” Drifter said. “You didn’t even give me a chance to see if I even
had
a chance!”

“Believe me, you didn’t,” Sam told him before all three men burst into laughter.

“And let’s not forget you’re married,” Bear added.

“Oh, screw that old hag,” Drifter said, waving the two men off.

“I dare you to say that to her face,” Sam challenged him.

“That’ll
never
happen!” Drifter said before the men broke into laughter again.

When they quieted down, they heard screams coming from the back of the bar. Bear glanced over at the table where the rival gang members had been sitting, and now there were only two of them there. They were chatting amongst themselves nonchalantly, as if nothing was happening. But other patrons in the bar noticed the screaming as well and were looking over at Sam confusingly. And then it dawned on Bear that Samantha hadn’t returned from the ladies room. He darted to the back of the bar and burst into the bathroom, but it was empty.

“Bear! Up here!” he heard Drifter yell from the front. When he ran back up to the bar, he saw the one rival gang member who was missing from the table forcing Samantha into his car then pulling away. Within seconds, he and Drifter were out the door and on their motorcycles, following the car as it tore down the road. Bear pulled out his cell phone and called Sheriff Walton, who was on The Dark Angels’ payroll and always looking out for them. Bear told the sheriff what was going on, and the sheriff told him that he was on the way.

Minutes later he heard sirens and saw the sheriff flying down the street with his lights spinning wildly on top of the squad car. He spun out in front of the gang members’ car so that he was forced to slam on his brakes, and Bear and Drifter pulled their bikes up to the back of the car so that he could not back up. The kid was stuck, and all he could do was follow the sheriff’s directions and step out of the vehicle slowly with his hands in the air.

While the sheriff and Drifter handled him, Bear ran around to the passenger side of the car and threw open the door. Samantha, who had apparently hit her head when the gang banger slammed on the brakes, was sitting there unconscious. Bear picked her up gently and placed her onto the front of his bike, and held her tightly as he sped off toward his apartment.

“I just don’t know how to thank you,” Samantha said. She was lying in Bear’s bed, having just gained consciousness and been told what had happened to her at the bar.

Bear, who was sitting at the foot of the bed and staring at Samantha intently, just shook his head and replied, “I’m so glad that I was able to save you. I can’t imagine what that thug would have done to you had I not been there.”

“I know,” Samantha said quietly, staring at Bear and feeling more attracted to him than ever. She wanted to tell him the truth about what was really going on, who she was and why the gang banger had tried to kidnap her. But right now she just didn’t have the heart after the way he had put his own life on the line in order to save hers. Right now she felt so vulnerable, and all she wanted was some human contact. “Can I ask you for a favor?” she asked Bear.
