“Lucca’s up baby.” Rachel’s sleepy voiced whispered from her side of the bed as she snuggled back down into the covers.

Another screech from Lucca had me moving fast, as one more screech like that and I was going to be bleeding from the ears for sure. Stumbling towards the crib I caught my toe of the edge of the bed. Fuck! Jumping around and trying to grab my throbbing toe I tripped over Rocco and face planted right in front of Lucca’s crib.

Lucca thought this was funny, giggling and screeching da, and Rachel apparently didn’t care that I almost killed myself on her fat dog.

“Fucking dog.” I mumbled pulling myself up.

“That’s five dollars in the f box.” Rachel said from the bed.

Shit, she could acknowledge my cussing but not me almost dying. Jesus.

Picking up Lucca I smoothed his black curly hair down and kissed his forehead. “How’d my boy sleep?”

“Your girl is still sleeping. Quiet.” Rachel said from somewhere under the covers.

“Mommy is grumpy in the mornings.” I said very loudly to Lucca as we left his grumpy mama to sleep.

“I’m only grumpy because you keep me up all night.” She yelled.

“Just making up for lost time babe.” And God were we but not just sex, everything. I’d missed so much in the first six months I wasn’t willing to miss another second. In the six weeks since getting Lucca back from Jace I turned into a full time dad. Lucca stayed with me during the day while Rachel went to work at the coffee shop. She really didn’t need to work I had more money than we would even need in one lifetime. But Rachel refused to touch what she called drug money. During the days, after nap time of course, Lucca and I would go to the tattoo shop to make sure Uncle Jonah hadn’t made any more builders cry and quit. Then we’d go to Risk where I’d get some club business done while Lucca played in the new half of my office that had been turned into the ultimate baby play zone. Before all this the thing that I never went without was a gun, now it was a diaper bag. I was a badass with a diaper bag.

Rounding the hallway I turned into the kitchen to find Jonah and Olivia arguing.

“One more dog is not going to hurt anyone.” Olivia yelled.

“That thing is not a dog it’s a fucking beast.” Jonah yelled back pointing towards the back door.

“Five dollars in the f box Jonah.” Rachel screamed from up stairs.

Jesus that woman and her f box. “If you were getting up why the hell did you wake me?” I screamed back to her.

“Shut up Denny you know why. I would have gotten up and you up would have been right behind me.” This was true, why lay in bed when I could be hanging with Lucca.

Sitting Lucca down in his high chair, which was facing the back door caused him to screech and fling his hands in the air. What was he up too? Looking over my shoulder I had to bite down on my tongue to stop from screaming. Standing outside the back door was a huge ass beast of a dog.  Drool so thick you could probably see it a mile away dripped from its mouth, its head was the size of a watermelon and it was built like a bull.

“What the fuck is that?”

“That’s another five.” Rachel yelled.

Rolling my eyes at Rachel I looked at Jonah. “Explain.”

“That,” Olivia said walking to the door “is Mouth, he’s a seven month old French Mastiff. He followed me home from the shelter. I thought as he is the same age as your son they could be friends. Everyone needs a pet dog.”

“That’s not a dog.” Jonah and I said together.

Olivia opened the door and the beast came flying into the house. Drool went flying and that big body was aimed right at my son. Diving for Lucca I hit drool and fell right on my ass. Motherfucker. The beast put its head on Lucca’s high chair and Lucca went to town pulling on its floppy skin.

“Instant love.” Olivia cried happily.

Well Fuck.

Lucca’s smile was so bright there was just no way I would hurt his feeling by telling Olivia to take the beast dog back.

“Fine the beast dog can stay but know this Olivia Rees you’re going to hell for using a baby to get your way.”

“You’ll save me a spot right?” Olivia asked sticking her tongue out at me.

“Oh cool, a new dog.” Rachel said coming into the room dressed for work.

Like I said before a comedy show.

It was a weeknight so Risk wasn’t packed which was perfect because Rachel was at the club, we’d left Lucca at home with his Uncle Mason, and I planned to spend the night dancing with my girl.

Rachel was dressed in a tight red dress, showing off her sexy body and those fuck me shoes were staying on after I got her out of that dress.

Pulling Rachel closer I let my hand slide down her bare back and kissed her neck loving the trembles I could feel wrecking her body. Fuck the beach dream I had this morning, this was way better and was only going to get better as the night went on.

I was just about to kiss Rachel when screaming started coming from the front of the club. Quickly pulling Rachel behind my back I looked around the dark club trying to figure out what the hell was going on.

Jonah and Olivia came running from the back office. Just as they reached our side the crowd by the door parted and four guys dressed in black stepped forward. Two held guns pointing them at us, while the other two held what looked like dead bodies.

Fuck.

“This is only the beginning.  One by one you will all die until his revenge is served.” One of the guys screamed as both guns shot into the air and the two bodies were thrown to the ground.

As the four men ran out, we ran for the bloody bodies on the ground.

One was Jack, the other was JD.
