Dedication

I would also like to acknowledge my mom who passed away a few years ago, she told me to follow my dreams and never allow anyone to tell me I couldn’t achieve it.

Thanks to the love of my life, John, for making me a place to write and even took up the slack when I was typing away in my own world. You helped to make my dream come true. It may be a small table in the corner, but it’s my corner of make believe, where dreams do come true.

Thanks to my beautiful kids who keep me grounded and drive me crazy at the same time. I love you all.

A huge thank you to Bobbi Kinion who keeps me together and tells me to take deep breaths and it’s all going to work out.

Also, Thank You to all of my Nite Stalkers who have stood behind me through out the good and bad times. Thank you, Bobbi Kinion, Kent Kinion, Kristina Galbert, Janka Dustan, Jerri Mooring, Amy Bowens, Lori Backfire Twardokus, Ronda Reed, Debbie Raddatz, Lori Engelbrektso, and Penny DeLoche.

Thanks to the Bryce Evans Paranormal Society who have helped me spread the word of my books and keeps driving me.

I would like to thank Red Quill Editing LLC for a great job.  I can’t think you enough for helping me with all of my silly questions.  Jess Buffett you did it again on another great cover.

A SPECIAL THANKS to the REBELS. You know who you are.

It’s a long road but it’s worth it!

Chapter 1

Zoey Malone sat at her desk looking out the window. The longer she watched, the angrier she got. Kayden Lynn, the Alpha of the Panthers Pride, stood outside her window and flirted with the one person who disgusted her the most, that bitch Jena Carnes. She could feel her heart breaking when Jena put her hand on Kayden’s arm, laughing about something he said. She gritted her teeth as she continued to watch the interaction between the two.

He knows how much I hate her, and he knows this is my office window. So then…why is he doing this to me?

She wanted to hate him now more than ever, but she couldn’t. Now Jena was a different story; Zoey just plain hated her. Her hatred went back to her childhood. The days she tried to forget.

It wouldn’t have been so bad if only it wasn’t Jena Carnes standing outside her window flirting with the love of her life. This was the woman that had made her life hell growing up. During high school, Jena had long brown hair with big breasts, a great figure, and long legs. She was everything the boys wanted.

Unfortunately, Zoey was the complete opposite.  Her mother wouldn’t allow her to grow her hair out like the other pack girls. Her hair was cut into a bob style, and her mother refused to let her grow it out. Most of the pack had either black or brown hair with olive skin. Zoey had blonde hair and fair skin. Jena always teased her saying that she was adopted because she looked nothing like most of the children in the pack.

On one occasion, Jena had stopped by her house to drop off a cake for her brother Ryder, and while waiting, she overheard Zoey arguing with her mother about her hair. Every chance she got, she used that information against Zoey and pointed out everything Zoey hated about herself. Whenever Jena saw Zoey walking up the hall, she would point out, in front of a crowd, her hair and undeveloped body. By the time Jena was finished, nobody wanted to go out with her in high school.

On prom night, she went to the library so she didn’t have to see all the sympathetic looks her pack would give her. To make matters worse, Zoey was in love with her brother’s best friend and could never act on it.

It wasn’t until she started her sophomore year that her mom allowed her to grow her hair long. That was the same year that her dad died from a rare form of cancer. After her mate died, her mom lost the will to live and died six months later leaving Zoey in the care of her older brother, Ryder. They loved each other, but the problem was that Ryder became overprotective and wouldn’t allow men to get close to her, thinking that someone might try and kidnap her in order to use her as a bargaining chip. She was already struggling with her self-esteem, but now the struggle was even worse than before.

Zoey leaned her chair back and continued to watch Jena and Kayden. The blinds were open, but she knew she couldn’t be seen because no one could see in the window from outside. She was so wrapped up in her thoughts and the scene outside the window, she never heard her sister-in-law, London, come in.

“Oh my God, what the fuck is that skank doing in front of your window? And what the hell is Kayden doing talking to her?” Before Zoey could say anything, London was banging on the window.

“Go talk to the slut in front of your own damn window, Kayden.”

Zoey sat in the chair, dumbfounded, until she realized that London continued to knock on the window and yell at them. She jumped up and grabbed London, dragging her back behind her desk.

“London what…what are you doing?” Zoey could barely get the words out of her mouth. Her best friend in the whole world just banged on her window and yelled at the only man she had ever loved.

“Oh my god! Do you think he knows that was you? I bet he thinks it’s me. He...” Zoey sputtered with her hand over her mouth. They both pulled back toward the wall when Jena held her hands up to the window and tried to look in. Zoey and London looked at each other, then turned around and gave Jena the middle finger salute and laughed hysterically. Zoey knew that Jena couldn’t actually see through the window, but watching her try was funny, and they both hated Jena Carnes for numerous reasons.

“What is he doing talking with Jena Carnes of all people?” London asked as she slumped into the chair.

“Don’t know. I saw him get out of his vehicle, and then Jena ran over to him. Who knows what the hag wants. Well, I know what she wants; it’s what every girl in town wants.” Zoey whispered the last part not wanting London to say anything more about Kayden or Jena. She could hear the longing in her own voice, and it made her sick.

London got up and went to Zoey’s side pulling her chair with her. “He isn’t worth it, Zoey. So many men have asked you out, and you continue to say no. Why?” London quizzed.

“I don’t know.” Zoey hated the way she felt when it came to Kayden. She couldn’t shake the feelings that she was never good enough for him. She had huge self-esteem issues, and over the past five years, London had helped her with it, but it always flared up when he came around. Plus, she was a wolf, and he was the Alpha of the Lynn Panther Pride. She couldn’t imagine what would happen if they mated, and their kids turned out to be some kind of freak of nature. What was she thinking? She needed to leave the fantasy alone. Kiss it good-bye, Zoey, and go on with your life.

“You know, you’re right, London. I’m going to start dating and have some fun. I deserve that. We just signed our first contract with the Landon Computer Company, and our company is finally on the playing field with the big boys. I want to let loose and have some fun.” Zoey smiled stiffly trying to believe what she said.

“You’re right, Zoey. Kayden Lynn isn’t the only shifter in town who can warm your bed at night.” London teased.

“London! You’re crazy, girl.” Then in a low voice, she said, “I’ve never had sex with anyone.” Zoey could feel her cheeks getting warm. “I’m kinda scared, you know. I don’t even know what to do. I mean, I feel stupid even saying this to you. You’re my best friend and all, but you probably think I’m a dried up prune or something. I’ve watched porn and stuff, but I’ve never been
with
anyone.” Zoey laughed aloud at herself. “I know, right? It’s stupid being this old and still a virgin.”

London leaned forward with a scowl on her face. “Zoey Malone. You stop that right now, and no, I don’t think that. It’s wonderful and refreshing that you’ve waited to find the right man to make love with.”

“Hell London, who said anything about making love? I want the deep down, raunchy sex. Love can come later. I want my first time to be with someone who knows what the hell they’re doing and wants to drive it deep.” London laughed so hard she fell out of the chair.

“What? You know what I mean. I’ve heard you and my brother getting the dirty on, and you sounded like you enjoyed it. That’s what I want. I want someone who isn’t afraid to teach me...you know...dirty sex!”

London gazed up at Zoey and shook her head. “Holy shit, Zoey. I’ve never heard you talk like that before, but I do understand it more than you know. In fact, I need to go see my mate next door. I think it’s time we christen his office.”

London jumped up and ran out of the office. Zoey giggled as she watched London run past her window heading to Ryder’s office next door, knowing London would always have her back.

“That’s what I want.” Zoey whispered as she stared down at her desk. She knew she needed help if she was going to make tonight a memorable night. “Donnie!” Zoey yelled out.
