Retrieving a condom from his pocket, he took the small packet to his lips and ripped open the foil pouch. A dominant and wicked smile suggested he felt like he’d won some sort of coveted prize as the coiled rubber fell in his palm.

Oh yes, he’d orchestrated this from the very beginning. Now, she was playing right into his hand.

“Let me,” she whispered, lowering her head. She’d use the opportunity and leave him defenseless. She wanted his cock pulsing against her tongue. She longed to feel him slipping between her lips and thrumming against her tonsils.

“Not a chance, baby,” he rasped. “I’ve waited over a year.” As if impatience grabbed hold and wouldn’t let him go, he sheathed himself without a second spared.

Gazing into her eyes, he assaulted her lips once more. Impaling her at the same time his tongue revisited her mouth, he breathed a heavy sigh of relief, one that seemingly matched her own. He entered her slowly, taking time to savor their reunion and rekindle old flames.

“Colt,” she whimpered as he pushed the weight of his cock deep inside her pussy. “Oh God, how I’ve missed you.”

Thumping inside her, he framed her face with his hands, kissing her with passion and heat, showering her with the kind of adoration and attention she’d craved since the last time they’d spent the night together. Whether he loved her or not back then didn’t really matter—at least not right then—he’d always made her feel cherished and special. And one fact remained. He loved her now. The night before, he’d expressed himself. He’d shouted at the top of his lungs as he’d pounded his fist against her door.

Ah, yes
. He loved her now.

Breaking their kiss, she gripped his shoulders as the imperative need washed over her and the cravings for his body intensified. His fingertips grazed her nipples. He lowered his head to her chest and nipped at the points. Shards of pleasure zipped through her body, rippling under her skin as she tingled from head to toe.

She tossed her head back and stared up at the mirrors on the ceiling. Placing her palms on the roof of the car, she threw her body into the act itself. Impetuous movements—his and hers—left their bodies undulating more like dancers than lovers.

She moaned in exquisite pleasure as his cock lengthened inside her. He reached between their bodies and his hand skimmed across her mound. Finding her clit, he rolled the hard bud under the pad of his thumb, and a sharp bolt of arousal sent her over the edge.

“Colt!” she screamed. Her pussy fluttered around his pulsing cock. Her agitated cunt squeezed his hard length as a current of sweet vibrations left her riding him faster. The rousing sensations shot through her body as the tremors took hold.

“That’s it. Right there,” he rasped. “Use me, Kelly. Fuck me. Ride me, baby darlin’.”

She rocked with the violent quake of pulsations, clenching around his length. Up and down, she took him nice and slow. “Deeper, Colt. Don’t let me go. Don’t stop.”

His face twisted into one of pure male pleasure as he took control of their moves, driving inside her with one speed, only one goal. Gripping her hips, he exerted himself with the onslaught of repetitious thumps, hard-pounding thrusts sealing off their everlasting connection. “You’re mine, Kelly. You’ve always been mine.”

His words were sweeter than a titillating love note, and the timing with which he chose to utter them left her raking her fingernails over his flesh, dragging him to her as she fought to keep him stroking inside her. “Always, Colt,” she whispered, becoming wild with him all over again.

He grabbed her by the hair of the head and held her at the base of her neck, staring into her eyes as their breathing became matched, but ragged. “Now, baby. Show me how much you’ve missed me.”

She exploded on command, back-to-back orgasms shaking her like a violent tropical storm rebounding for more. He screamed out at the top of his lungs and a quick jolt left him jerking in her arms. Moments later, they collapsed against the seat behind them, completely spent.

“So that’s how
it’s
done,” she whispered, her fingers splayed across his chest.

“Yeah, baby,” he said, gently kissing her forehead. “That’s how it’s done.”

* * * *

“Daniel is right on time,” Colt said, tapping the window.

In the distance, a black SUV raced up the highway. Her father’s Jeep seemed out of place as the utility vehicle darted away from a most picturesque setting, leaving the familiar Red Rock Canyon behind as he raced toward them.

They were only a minute or two from her father’s desert ranch. Occupied by Daniel Martin, over five hundred acres of prime Nevada land was owned by the US-West’s Underground Unit. Hidden behind a string of hills and surrounded by mountains, the property was thought of as one of the best training facilities in the country. Nature provided a helping hand and created the ultimate haven for those seeking seclusion. Magnificent rocks of all shapes and sizes guarded the property while wildlife freely roamed. The place didn’t necessarily have a need for gates and armed security. Few tourists, let alone would-be intruders, wandered off the highway to explore the canyon. The area was known for coyotes, mountain lions, and bobcats.

Kelly never tired of the scenery here. The stretch of highway ran straight through one of the most spectacular views in the country. With large boulders bent in various directions, the rocks towered over the land below. Some of the formations arched above the land as if they had been constructed to provide various perches or safe havens for the wildlife living there.

“He’s meeting you with the four-wheel drive,” Colt continued, jarring her from her thoughts.

“And here I thought Steadman would take us all the way,” she snapped, dressing.

Colt watched her as she slipped her arms into her shirt. His eyes glazed over as if he’d never be able to look at her with anything less than complete adoration. “I can’t go with you, Kelly.”

“I know.” She forced a smile, realizing somewhere deep inside her, she’d known as much all along. His purpose had been to join her for the ride. He’d been part of a grander plan, assigned to escort her from the city to the canyon. The sex was just a perk, maybe even a job benefit.

Damn.
She’d already started the old habit of conjuring up all sorts of twisted ideas. She knew better. Colt cared about her. He loved her.

She couldn’t blame Colt for carrying out an assignment. Maybe her father thought he was the only one who could handle her. On second thought, it was probably the other way around. Colt was undoubtedly afraid her father wouldn’t convince her to stay out of the city. Whatever Colt’s purpose, he’d done his job. He’d delivered her to the foot of her father’s hidden retreat. Now, he’d return to Las Vegas and face her fiancé.

“You’re thinking too much,” Colt said.

“That’s why you like me, Colt. I’m always thinking.”

“You caught me. I’m only after your brain and your money.”

She laughed, but she wasn’t amused. As it turned out, Lorenzo had been after her brain, money, power, and position.

In many ways, Kelly was starting to understand the role she’d played for the Underground Unit. Her father was the master of manipulators and she wasn’t stupid. If he hadn’t needed her, she wouldn’t have earned a position on his team.

Regardless of what Colt believed, her father never wanted her on the inside, but she’d watched him work. She knew how her father thought. When he assumed the role of Daniel Martin, CEO of one of the most profitable casinos in the world, he wasn’t much different than Daniel Martin, the once-respected leader of the US-West Division of the Underground Unit.

As it happened, Lorenzo had been on the Underground Unit’s radar for some time. When Lorenzo set his sights on her and her father’s perceived casino holdings, he became a dangerous enemy, but once he stepped onto Daniel Martin’s turf, her father used every tool he had at his disposal—including her.

“What are you thinking, Kel?” Colt asked, tightening his belt.

Kelly observed the approaching vehicle. “Dad is good. Isn’t he?”

“What do you mean?”

She shrugged. “He’s orchestrated so many missions in the past, he’s lost his humanity. He sends one agent in, pulls another operative out, replaces a team here or one over there. Then, if things don’t go his way, he sends in the shadows, pulls them out of hiding, and they finish the job. They clean up the mess. By that time, another set of operatives are flying to one location while yet another team prepares to go in and eliminate someone else.”

Colt frowned. “What are you getting at, Kelly?”

She dragged her middle finger over her closed left eye. She was tired. Maybe that’s why she was talking about things she shouldn’t. “I don’t know, Colt. I guess I’m just starting to feel like my father’s pawn, just another chess piece on his elaborate game board.”

“Your father loves you, Kelly.” He sure didn’t sound convinced.

“Really? Do you think so?” she asked, teetering on the edge of sarcasm. “I have my doubts. After I saw your reaction when you realized I was working with the Underground Unit, the truth smacked me in the face. You wouldn’t have put me on the team for love or money. If the decision had been left up to you, there would’ve been no way in hell you would’ve given me the nod of approval. Dad didn’t hesitate.”

“Maybe I don’t know the whole situation.”

“That’s bullshit and you know it,” she said snidely. “That’s Colt Candy the loyal operative standing by his leader.”

Colt’s lips curved in a smile. “And what Colt Candy is sitting across from you?”

“You tell me. Should I feel used?” she asked, watching as he buttoned his sleeves.

“Do you?” He swung his blond hair behind his back. His muscles tightened as he tied his thick strands in a ponytail.

His expression remained solemn. His eyes looked like doorways to sadness.

She wondered then, as she’d wondered many times before, what had the last year held for him? What missions had he been assigned? What traumatic events had he seen? Had he killed, or had he saved precious lives? Where had he been? What had he done? Had there been women in his life? Lovers? And what about the others? What situations had they found themselves in all in the name of the Underground Unit?

“You still with me?” he asked, waving his hand in front of her face.

“Yes,” she whispered, longing for him all over again. She’d give anything to stay with him, just to spend one day together.

He placed his palm to the back of her head and peered around her fallen hair, now much like a curtain hanging over her face. “You think I used you?”

“No,” she told him honestly. “You’ve never made me feel cheap or used, even when—”

“When?” he asked, tilting her chin to his. “When the others have joined us?”

“Yes,” she admitted. “Even then, I haven’t felt exploited.”

“And you shouldn’t. They care about you. One or two of them maybe even—” This time he stalled. He pointed to the SUV approaching them and she realized he wouldn’t finish the sentence. “Something is wrong. Daniel must be going a hundred miles an hour.”

“He always drives like a madman,” she told him. Maybe it was for the best if they tabled their discussion for later. They needed to focus on the coming hours, not on the multiple-partner relationship they’d placed on a backburner nearly one year ago.

Her father was meeting them. They didn’t have time to discuss the personal issues at hand. They never had enough time, which was why she’d moved on in the first place, or temporarily thought she had.

Her initial involvement with Lorenzo stemmed from Lorenzo playing on her needs. When they’d first met, they’d talked about their past relationships, and in a moment of weakness, she’d revealed too much. She’d told him about inattentive past lovers, men who were married to their careers. She’d failed to mention the precise timing of her previous relationships, fearing he’d put two and two together.

Lorenzo, always looking for an advantage, quickly became the doting boyfriend. Zealous in his efforts to stand out above the rest, he soon proposed marriage. After she accepted, the real Lorenzo came to the fore.

Trying to make herself presentable, she smoothed her hands over her hair and asked, “How do I look?”

“Like a million bucks.” Colt winked, a playfulness lingering in his expression, but only for a limited time. His eyes darkened. His jaw tightened and the operative emerged. “Listen to me, Kelly. I need you to stay away from the casino. Please. Do this for me.”

“I’m not the weaker link here, Colt. This time, you made a bad judgment call. You shouldn’t have asked Dad to pull me out.”

“Lorenzo has many faces. You’ve only seen a few of them. He has the capacity to kill. I saw that in his eyes this morning.”

“Didn’t you threaten to kill him first?” she asked, knowing all about Lorenzo’s many personas.

“If he ever lays another hand on you, I’ll make good on that promise.” Colt didn’t blink an eye and she believed he had every intention of doing just that, which may have been part of the reason why she had been brought to her father’s ranch. Perhaps they planned to take him out tonight.

“I’ve handled myself well, Colt. I’m not fragile. I won’t break.” Even as she spoke, she was aware of the way he studied her, how it pained him to see her with bruises on her flesh.

“You need to listen to me,” he said, taking her hands in his. “Crue and Gabe are staying with me. I wish Crue could be here with you, but if something goes wrong tonight, he’s the only one I can trust to manipulate technology. Gabe is good, but he isn’t as sharp as Crue.”

“Don’t play me for a fool, Colt. Crue is the best sharpshooter in the Underground Unit. I know why you want Crue there and it has nothing to do with computers and technology. What else aren’t you telling me?”

The car came to a stop. The SUV parked parallel to the limousine. Colt cupped her cheek and left a peck on her lips. “What else do you want me to tell you?”

She searched his eyes and saw his willingness to open up, but he wouldn’t discuss business. His question was related to the personal.
