“Yes.” He knelt down beside the bed so their eyes were level. “And as husband and wife. Marry me, Nia. I love you.”
Tears stung her eyes, though she didn’t know where her body had found the moisture. “Yes. Of course, yes. I love you, too.” She clutched his fingers tight and let the fullness of it, the rightness of it surround her. And she knew one thing in her heart. “I think my father would approve.”
“This isn’t about him, it’s about us,” Rathe parroted back words she vaguely remembered throwing at him before. Then he sighed and pressed his cheek to hers. “But, yeah, I think he’d approve.”
Nia closed her eyes and knew they’d just started a
