Plants for Prosperity Magick

Here is a quick listing of ten additional backyard plants you can incorporate into your prosperity and abundance spells and charms for hearth and home. (Some of these backyard plants also have protective properties.)

Following the list is a simple worksheet for natural magick. Work out the charms and spells on this worksheet that you would enjoy performing for hearth and home. If you need to double-check which days of the week are most opportune for certain types of magick, flip back to the end of chapter 4. Bottom line: don't be afraid to improvise. Put your heart into it, get creative, and have fun.

bergamot (bee balm):
Corresponds to Mercury and the element of air. Slip the scented leaves into charm bags or tuck them into your wallet to draw money. This popular garden plant grows well in sun or part shade.

chamomile:
Corresponds to the Sun and the element of water. Add a few dainty chamomile blossoms to any spell for prosperity and for household protection.

clover
(with three or four leaves): Corresponds to Mercury and aligns
to the element of air. Three-leaf clovers represent the goddess Brigid and the triple goddess. Four-leaf clovers are traditionally for good luck and prosperity charms.

ferns
: Corresponds to Mercury and aligns to the element of air. Carrying a fern frond was thought to bring prosperity and good luck. Adding fern foliage to a vase of fresh flowers increases their magickal properties and bestows luck and protection on the home.

heliotrope
: Aligns with the Sun and the element of fire. Place the dusky, cherry-scented blossoms in your pocket to draw riches.

jasmine
: Links to the Moon and the element of water. This is a feminine plant suitable for any lunar magick. Carrying or wearing jasmine flowers is a sure way to draw riches and prosperity into your life.

periwinkle or sorcerer's violet
(also known as “vinca minor”): This shade-loving groundcover is often overlooked as a magickal plant. This is a very popular plant in the nursery trade, so check out the groundcover section and add some of this to the shady spots on your property. Periwinkle aligns to the planet Venus and the element of water. Tuck a snippet of the blooming vine in your pocket to draw money. The periwinkle can also be used for bindings, protection, and love.

sweet woodruff:
Another shade-loving groundcover. This plant
is linked to the planet Mars and the element of fire. Carried, the plant
attracts money and is a protective talisman for athletes. (Have them place
it in their duffle bag holding their sports equipment.) This plant also
promotes victory.

tomato
:
Corresponds with the planet Venus and the element of water.
Believe it or not, the tomato pulls in prosperity when grown on your property. Try growing a patio tomato in a container on your sunny porch,
patio, or deck this year. The tomato is also a protective plant, so it will
reinforce protective wards in your outdoor rooms. When consumed, the tomato encourages loving feelings, which may explain the old folk name for the tomato, the “love apple.”

tulip
: The tulip is connected to the planet Venus and the element of earth. When grown in the yard, the tulip encourages the home to have a prosperous atmosphere. It is used to ward off poverty and bad luck in general.

Magick for Selling or Buying a Home

No doubt about it, working for prosperity and abundance is a lot of work. But you definitely get out of it whatever you put into it. It's sort of like that old Wiccan joke about the newbie who is disappointed that the spell they did to get a great job didn't pan out as they intended. The novice is completely mystified until they find out that they actually had to go out and apply, and then interview, for that job.

The same idea goes with this prosperity chapter; the money isn't going to just go
poof
and then appear out of thin air. You'll have to do something extra and put some effort into it. So, obviously, if you are after a better job or more pay, then be willing to work for it and follow it up with a magickal plan. Combining prosperity magick with common sense and hard work is an unbeatable combination—so get in there and go for it!

We are going to close up this chapter with a spell to assist with the selling of your home and another for finding a new home. First things first, if you're in the market to sell, find a reputable real estate person and ask for a fair price. Be honest when you talk to the realtor about your home and any problems there may be after the inspection. If you are going to use magick, then be honest and don't magickally camouflage any problems—because if you go casting a glamour to hide the problems, chances are when you move into your new home even more hidden problems will be waiting for you. Karma will find you, on that you can depend.

The best thing to do is to do a big cleansing when you put the house on the market. Making the atmosphere welcoming to those prospective buyers will help you out in the long run. (Take another look at

for ideas.) Once the house has a great welcoming vibration going, then work the following charm to help attract potential buyers.

Gather together the ad for your house, the key to the front door (or whatever key you are giving to the realtor) and, lastly, a white candle in a coordinating holder. You can work this charm during a waxing moon phase or at the new or full moon. Arrange the candle on top of the ad for your home and place the key in front of the candle. Light the candle and repeat the charm three times. When you are finished, allow the candle to burn out on its own.

Elements four, gather 'round to the sound of my voice,

We desire to move up in the world, this is our choice.

The house is a good one, from attic to basement stairs,

Help our house to sell quickly and at a price that's fair.

From rooftop to foundation, this homey charm is cast,

Send us a willing buyer and make my magick last.

If you've found the home of your dreams and you are putting in a bid, try this charm to help improve your chances of getting that house. Work this spell at the full moon phase, if possible, or on a Monday for its lunar energies.

For this spell you will need a representation of the moon goddess—a drawing or a white rose in a vase will suffice. You will also need a small tumbled moonstone, a white or silver candle, and a photo of the house that you have bid on.

Take the photo or the ad for the house outside, under the light of the moon. Hold the picture out in the palms of your hands. Let the moonlight fall across this for a few moments. Now take the picture inside and set it up on your hearthstone or natural magick altar. Put any other papers up there that have to do with the offer that you have made on the property. Set the goddess representation on top of the papers. Add that moonstone to the stack for moon magick and to reinforce that you'd like to move to a new location. (Moonstones traditionally are used for safe travel and lunar magick.) Light the candle and repeat the following charm:

I have found the perfect house of my dreams,

Send my wish out on a silver moonbeam.

Sell this house to me and I will care for it well,

Goddess, hear my request and assist in this spell.

Close the spell by saying:

Thank you, Goddess, for your love, magick, and care,

I close this spell by earth, water, fire, and air.

Bibs, Bobs, and Whatnots

A young Witch friend of mine suggested this next practical magickal working. It won't cost you a dime and is fun to do, to boot! Have you ever built a cairn? A cairn is an arrangement of rocks, typically in a pyramidal or triangular shape, that is used in magick to physically represent a spell or a goal that you are trying to reach. This stack of rocks actually represents the astral energy that you are building up while you work toward that goal. In this case, we will be building up your prosperity. By using rocks from your surrounding area, you link the magick back to the earth that your home stands on. All those great elemental energies associated with the earth, such as fertility, abundance, and prosperity, are just waiting to be tapped into.

All you need to perform this spell is about a dozen or so small- to palm-sized rocks from your property. If you live in an apartment complex, then gather the stones from the area around your building. To set the cairn up, you will need a small area that can remain undisturbed. So scout out a spot in the yard or even on your patio or porch and begin stacking up those rocks.

Concentrate on your goal while you are gathering the stones and as you build the cairn. With every rock, you are adding more intention and energy into this prosperity spell. As you build up the shape of stones, say the following verse to link your magick to your goal:

I build this cairn for prosperity,

Bring success, abundance, and wealth to me.

By the element of earth, this spell is cast,

May my fortune increase and my pleasure last.

Leave the cairn undisturbed for at least a full moon cycle (twenty-eight days). You may refresh the spell by repeating the charm and tidying up the cairn every month.
