ornament horizon

A period of the European middle Bronze Age marked by the widespread occurrence of bronze and gold personal ornaments such as rings, torcs, bracelets, and pins alongside the more well-established range of tools and weapons. In southern Britain the ornament horizon coincides with the
TAUNTON PHASE
. The smiths in this tradition were especially influenced by types current in Montelius II and III phases in northern Germany.
Orosius , Paulus

Spanish churchman who fled from the
VANDALS
to Africa in ad 414, and became an adherent of St Augustine. His
Historiae adversus paganos
, a tract tracing events from the Creation to ad 417, relies heavily on earlier writers, but adds details of his own knowledge from contemporary history.
Orpheus
[Di].
Greek god, hero of Thrace and in origin perhaps a Thracian king. Son of Apollo he owed his fame to his amazing musical talent. He sang and played the lyre with such art that the savage beasts came running to listen to him. His skills were well used during the voyage of the Argonauts.

A model showing the movement of the planets around the sun.
orthostat
[Co].
Large upstanding stone used in constructing the walls of the chambers and passages in many kinds of
MEGALITHIC TOMB
during the Neolithic in Europe. The orthostats directly or indirectly support the roof structure.
Oshara Tradition
[CP].
Archaic Stage hunter-gatherer tradition centred on north-central New Mexico, the San Juan Basin, and the Rio Grande in southwestern North America and flourishing in the period 5500 bc to ad 600.
