I grin at Pop, knowing this could very
easily go either way, what I’m about to say next. “Nah,” I say, laughing.
“Pretty sure Finn and I would kill each other if I did that.”

Pop chuckles. “Yeah, undoubtedly,” he says.
“So what are you going to do?”

I run a hand through my hair and meet my
dad’s stare. “Well, I thought I might finally kick you into retirement,” I say
grinning at him. “And run this place.”

A couple of hours later, I’m wandering over
to the inn to meet up with Kelsey. I’d texted her earlier to find out when she
was finishing and to let her know that I was in town, talking to my dad, so I’d
meet up with her before she came home. She was curious about me meeting with
Pop, especially as she’d said she was planning on bringing lunch home with her.
I’d been vague about why, promising to explain everything when I met her.

I smile as I think back over this afternoon’s
events. Pop had burst out laughing when I’d told him my plans for the future.
Slapping me on the shoulder again and saying, “I take it back,
this
is the smartest decision you’ve
ever made.”

I’d raised my eyebrows in shock, expecting
a bigger fight from him about this. “You’re okay with all this?” I asked him,
gesturing around the pub. “I thought this place was your baby.”

“It is,” he’d said, laughing as he poured
us both a shot of Jameson. “But I’ve been wanting to retire for years now. It’s
been tough with Finn as chief and no one else to take over,” he’d said. “This
place belongs in the family and I didn’t want to hand it over to just anyone.”

Pop’s words had been both a wake up call
and a kick in the gut, as all the years I’d basically ignored my family came
rushing back.

“Pop…” I’d said, standing.

“Beck,” he’d said, holding up a hand. “It’s
okay. You’re here now and that’s what counts.”

I hadn’t said anything, instead walking
around to the other side of the bar and pulling my dad into a tight hug. “Thank
you, Pop,” I’d said. “Thank you.”

When he’d pulled back, he’d been smiling at
me. “Right then, let’s get something to eat and start talking about what you’re
gonna do with the place.”

After that, it had all been easy. Pop’s
plans for renovations were, like Finn and Kelsey had said, amazing. In addition
to redoing the entire interior, he also wanted to create an outdoor beer garden
and expand on the kitchen. Get a chef in to offer something more than the basic
snacks the current guy provided.

It was a smart move, especially given O’Loughlin’s
was a favorite amongst both the locals and the tourists. With everything in place,
I thought we could potentially do it all over the winter months and have it up
and running by the time summer came around next year. I was looking forward it.

Telling Ryan and my boss however, that was
another story.

I knew the captain would potentially
understand, but I’d yet to call him, wanting to square things away with Ryan
first. He was still in town for a couple of days, so I thought I’d talk to Kels
first and then see about telling my friend, and partner, that we’d no longer be
working together anymore.

“Hey, baby,” I say as the front door of the
inn flies open and Kelsey comes to greet me.

“Hey,” she says, wrapping her arms around
my neck and planting a hard kiss on my mouth.

“Miss me,” I say, grinning at her.

“Mmmm,” she says. “I did.”

I pull her against me, grinding my hips
against hers so she can see what she’s already doing to me. “I’ve got a
surprise for you,” I whisper, my mouth at her ear.

Kelsey bursts out laughing. “I hate to say
it, babe,” she says, her eyes sparkling. “But as much as I love your big, sexy
cock, it isn’t exactly a surprise to me anymore.”

I burst out laughing, smacking her on the
ass as I press my ever-hardening dick against her. “Oh I don’t know about that,
babe,” I say, kissing her neck. “I’ve still got a few tricks up my sleeve.”

Kelsey laughs again until I silence her
with my mouth on hers, kissing her long and deep, right in front of the inn. I
have no idea who’s watching us right now, and for the first time in forever, I
don’t fucking care. I could care less if this town gossips about us anymore, as
long as everyone is clear that Kelsey is mine, and mine only, then all is good.

“So what’s this surprise then?” she
eventually says, pulling away to get a look at the bag I’m carrying.

“You’ll find out,” I say, taking her hand
in mine as I lead her down to the beach.

We walk in silence, the afternoon sun,
shining down on us and warming our skin. It takes a few minutes to reach the
spot, but as soon as we find it, Kelsey grins.

“I haven’t been here in ages,” she says,
sitting down in our secluded little spot in the dunes.

“You better not have been here since it was
with me,” I growl, my possessive side rearing its head.

Kels laughs and spreads out the blanket I’ve
brought, lying back with her arms above her head. “No one since you, babe,” she
says, smiling up at me.

“Good,” I tell her. “Because there isn’t
going to be anyone else but me.”

Kelsey gives me a funny look before saying,
“Did you remember everything about this spot?”

I grin as I pull a bottle of Jameson from
the bag. “I did,” I say, dropping to my knees beside her. “Although the condoms
aren’t gonna be needed.”

“Because you’re not going to fuck me out
here,” Kels says, fluttering her eyelashes at me.

I slide a hand across her stomach, lifting
her tank as my fingers seek out her breast. Kelsey lets out a deep moan as my
fingers find her nipple, gently pinching it until it’s a hard peak under her
bra.

“I can’t fuck you, remember,” I say, my
voice low. “But you sure as hell can fuck me.”

Kelsey laughs again before grabbing my hand
and shoving it down her shorts. My fingers immediately find her pussy, teasing
her lips apart and discovering just how wet she is already.

“Fuck, baby,” I say, my jaw tight. “You are
so fucking wet.”

“I know,” she whispers. “You wanna tell me
about the rest of today or you want me to fuck you first?”

“Fuck,” I groan, pulling my fingers out and
sucking them into my mouth and tasting her. I collapse on the blanket beside
her, groaning again as Kelsey gets up and straddles my hips. “I think I need
you to fuck me first.”

“Done,” she says, reaching for the bottle
of Jameson. “But first…” I watch as she opens the bottle and takes a long pull
on the whiskey before handing it to me. I sit up and do the same, relishing the
warm liquid as it runs down my throat.

Just as I reach for her, Kelsey stands,
shimming her way out of her shorts. I take another swig from the bottle,
cursing as she now runs her hand over my dick, before lowering my shorts. As
soon as my dick is free, she’s down on her knees, taking me in her mouth. I
collapse back on the blanket with a groan.

“Oh jesus, baby,” I say, my eyes rolling
back in my head. “You give the best fucking head, ever.”

Kelsey laughs with my cock still in her
mouth, the vibrations moving down my shaft and getting me even harder. “Such a
compliment,” she says, licking the head of my cock.

“And so fucking true,” I say, reaching for
her.

Kelsey straddles my hips again, moving her
panties to the side and positioning my cock at the entrance to her pussy. “Let’s
see how good my fucking is, shall we?” she says as she slides ever so slowly
over my cock.

“Ohhhh, fuck, Kels,” I moan. “I already
know you’re perfect at that, too.”

Kelsey laughs as she starts to ride my
cock, slow and steady, pulling her body off before sliding back over me. Her
pussy is so wet and so perfectly tight that I can already feel my balls
tightening as tension starts to build low in my gut. This morning’s fuck was
amazing, but it wasn’t nearly enough to ease the two weeks we’ve gone without.

“You okay there, babe?” Kelsey asks as she
starts to speed up her hips.

I open my eyes and lock onto her stare.
Somewhere in the distance, I can hear voices, probably tourists as they enjoy
Rockport beach, unaware that we are hidden in the dunes like this. “Oh yeah,” I
say, my left hand moving so I can rub at her already swollen clit. “Just don’t
stop moving, babe,” I say.

Kelsey groans now, her head falling back as
she speeds up some more, riding me hard and fast as the sun shines down on us.
The voices are getting closer and I know that any second now, they could walk
past and catch us. I thrust up with my hips, desperate to get us both there.

“Oh fuck, Beck,” Kelsey cries. “I’m going
to come.” And then she does, her pussy tightening around my dick just as it
explodes inside her.

“Come here,” I say quickly, my breathing
hard as I pull her down to my chest and wrap the blanket around us. Ten seconds
later, a couple rounds the corner, glancing at us before continuing their walk
along the beach.

Kelsey bursts out laughing. “Shit, that was
close,” she says.

I grin. “I know, right? A bit different
doing this in broad daylight. Didn’t we used to sneak up here at night when we
were kids?”

“We did,” she says, kissing me softly on
the lips. “But daylight is fun, too.”

“Mmmm,” I say, as I pull her in for another
deep kiss.

Eventually we get dressed again, Kelsey now
sitting between my legs as both of us stare out at the ocean. “So what else did
you have to tell me?” she says, sliding her hands along my thighs.

I smile, wrapping my good arm around her
shoulder as I press a kiss to her neck. “I’m staying in Rockport, baby,” I
whisper, kissing her again. “I’m quitting the force and taking over the pub.”

Chapter
Thirty-One
Kelsey

I’m stunned into silence, my mouth open, and
my eyes wide at the words that have just left Beck’s mouth. I’m not sure what
to say, as much I’ve wanted him to say those words to me, to tell me he’s
moving back to Rockport, I can’t help but feel a pang of guilt settle in my
stomach.

I’ve selfishly, for the last ten years,
wished he would return to Rockport, that he’d come back to me and we’d live
happily ever after, but even back then, part of me knew it wasn’t logical. And
it seems even more ridiculous now knowing everything he’s accomplished in his
career. The success he’s seen and at such a young age is almost unheard of and
I don’t want to be the reason he walks away from it all.

I feel like he’s staying now just to give
me peace of mind and to keep me safe, like leaving me will somehow cause something
bad to happen all over again. Neither of us can live with wondering if I’ll be
safe forever and this incident with Jason can’t be the reason Beck has chosen
to stay or the reason he’s giving up his job. I’ve seen these types of
situations before and the resentment in the relationship can be brutal, killing
off any love that existed.

But in saying all of this, I want him to
stay more than anything. Having him back in my life has just proved our
relationship was meant to last and my love for him over the last decade never
wavered.

Maybe it’s my time to give in, to make the
sacrifice and leave Rockport. After watching my staff at the inn run the show
for the last two weeks, I’m confident they could take it on in my absence. I
know I can’t sell the place; too much of my childhood and my family is wrapped
up in it to ever consider that, but taking a step back and working less might
be an option. The commute to and from Boston is a long one, and I know it will
be hard on both of us during tourist season, yet I feel like I need to make the
suggestion.

“Beck,” I say, trying to maintain my
composure, caught somewhere between elation and guilt. “Let’s talk about this
first.”

“There’s nothing to talk about, Kels,” he
says, with a finality to his tone. “I don’t want to be away from you. I’ve done
the whole hard ass detective bit and I’m over it. Coming home to you was the
best decision I’ve ever made and sticking around isn’t really open for
discussion. It’s a done deal.” He smirks at me and I shake my head.

“You’ve always been a stubborn ass,” I say,
climbing onto his lap and slinging my arms around his neck.

“Oh, yeah and you’re so easy going,” he
says, sarcastically, before I silence him with a kiss. When I pull away, Beck
is smiling, his eyes lighting up and he laughs a little.

“What?”

“I was just thinking back to when I left
ten years ago and how fucking adorable you looked, pouting and being all
indignant,” he says, laughing.

“Oh, now you can laugh about it. I was
legit pissed at you.”

“I think you perfected the pouty face
better than anyone I know. Your arms crossed over your chest, that full bottom
lip pushed out; you couldn’t have been cuter. Fuck knows how I got my shit
together and left after seeing you like that.”

I shake my head at him again. “I guess all
that matters now is we’re together.” And even though he’s firm in his decision,
I bring it up again. “Beck, are you sure this is what you want?”

“I’ve never been more sure of anything,” he
says, tucking my hair behind my ear with his fingers. “I need you to stop
worrying about this. I can see it written all over your face. You aren’t making
me do this, Kels; I want to be here with you.”

“Okay,” I say, still unsure of it all, but
I need to trust in his words.

“Baby, I know there was a time in my life
when all I ever wanted to do was leave this town. But things change, people
change, and coming back home made me realize this is where I belong.” He takes
a deep breath as his beautiful blue eyes focus on mine. “This is my home. You
are my home, Kels.”

Beck takes my face in his hands, kissing me
softly as I feel the tears begin to fall. I can’t believe this is happening.
Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think we’d be together again, let alone,
be together in Rockport, finally getting our happily ever after.
