As I pull her ear lobe into my mouth,
Kelsey still doesn’t move. My hands are sliding over her wet, soapy skin and I’m
desperately trying to think of something to say to reassure her that I’m not
going anywhere.

“Baby,” I whisper in her ear. “Talk to me,
what’s going on?”

“Nothing,” she says, her voice flat as she
reaches for the shampoo.

I spin her around so she’s facing me before
taking the shampoo bottle from her hand and returning it to the ledge.
“Bullshit,” I say.

“There’s nothing to say, Beck,” she says,
still not looking at me. “You have to go back to Boston. I knew it was coming.”

“Kelsey,” I say, my finger under her chin,
forcing her to look at me. “I’m not going anywhere, babe.”

Kelsey rolls her eyes. “I heard you, Beck.
I know you need to get back for the trial or whatever.”

“That isn’t going to be for months, babe,”
I say, knowing it could be next week or even next year by the time it goes to
court. “And besides I’m not leaving until this Jason guy is caught, I told you
that.”

Kelsey stares up at me, her blue eyes
filled with sadness. I can see the question she’s not asking. It’s written all
over her face. It’s the same question I saw there when I finally walked back
into her life. It’s the question I still don’t know how to answer, but the one
I desperately want to.

What
happens after that?

“Baby,” I say, leaning in to press a kiss
to her lips now. “I’m not going anywhere, okay? I’m here for you, I promise.” I
kiss her again, my lips soft, but insistent, as I try and get a response from
her.

“Beck,” she eventually moans, pressing her
mouth hard against mine and silencing any more words between us.

I groan as I slide my hands down her body
and under her ass, picking her up and backing her up against the cool tiles. As
Kelsey wraps her legs around my waist, I slide into her, burying myself in her
warm wetness.

“Fuck, baby,” I murmur, my mouth on her
skin, licking and sucking. As my lips kiss up her neck and find her mouth, I
pull out before slowly sliding back in. It earns me another low moan and I can’t
help but smile as I repeat the movement, fucking her nice and slow against the
wall of the shower.

The hot water continues to fall around us
as Kelsey holds on to me, her legs tight around my waist. I thrust in and out
of her and it dawns on me again, just how fucking perfect this moment and this
woman is.

To be able to wake up next to her, every
single morning. To be able to walk into the shower and fuck her like this
before we go to work and then to come home to her and do it all over again.
This is what I’ve been missing all these years. Not the big city lights or the
never-ending drama and frustration of police work in Boston.

“Baby,” I moan into her mouth as her pussy
starts to tighten around me.

“Beck,” she whispers, her head leaning back
against the tile. “God, I’m gonna come, I’m gonna…”

And then she lets out a loud scream, the
sound of my name echoing around the bathroom as she does. I push into her one
more time, my hips slapping loudly against hers as I explode inside her, stars
flashing before my eyes.

Yep, this is fucking perfect.

After we both towel dry, Kelsey walks into
the bedroom to get ready for work and I head to the kitchen to get us both some
more coffee. We dress in silence, but it’s not as strained as it was before.
When she’s ready to go, we grab Bella and head outside to my truck.

“What are you going to do today?” she asks
as she slides into the passenger seat.

I look over at her and give her a quick
grin. “First I’m going to fix that hole in your charter boat so you don’t have
to pay a fucking fortune for someone else to do it, and then I’m going to speak
to Finn, find out where he’s at.” Kelsey stares at me and as I stop at the end
of the street before turning, I ask, “What?”

“You’re going to fix my boat?”

I laugh. “Of course I am, baby. Why, you
don’t trust me?”

Kelsey shakes her head. “Of course I do,”
she says quietly. “I just…why are you doing this, Beck?”

I reach over and put my hand on her thigh.
Brushing my thumb over the bare skin above her knee, I glance at her quickly
before my eyes go back to the road. “I told you, baby, I’m here for you. I’ll
do whatever you need me to do.”

Kelsey says nothing and when I glance over,
she’s staring straight ahead, not looking at me. I’m about to ask if she’s okay
when her hand covers mine and she gives it a small squeeze.

I spend the morning fixing the hole on
Kelsey’s boat. It’s a beautiful day and spending it outside, doing something
with my hands, helping her out, feels amazing. This is a million miles away
from investigating murders and rapes and robberies in Boston, and right now, I
can’t ever imagine going back.

“So we grabbing some lunch, or what?” a
voice says as a pair of feet come to a stop in front of me.

I look up and see Ryan looking down at me.
Behind him, Kelsey and Erin are standing on the side of the dock, laughing and
talking and when I stand, I notice Ryan is wearing that same shit-eating grin
he had on this morning when he got out of his car.

“We are,” I say, wiping my hands on a rag.
“And I’m guessing the ladies are joining us?”

Ryan shrugs as though he’s got nothing to
do with it. “What can I say, they love me, understandably can’t get enough of
me.”

I punch him in the shoulder. “Whatever you
have to tell yourself, idiot,” I say, walking towards Kelsey. As I pull her
into my arms and press a hard kiss against her lips, Kelsey slips her arms
around my waist. “Hey, baby,” I say, brushing the hair back from her face. “You
ready for lunch?”

She nods and the four of us set off for the
tiny fish and chip shop that sits at the end of the docks. This place has been
here since we were kids and is known for selling the best fish and chips in
Rockport. Kelsey used to work here when she was sixteen, but got fired after
her manager busted us for making out in the kitchen. She burnt a shitload of
chips because neither of us was paying attention to the deep fryer. The only
reason her boss found out at all is when the fire department showed up after
the whole thing set the smoke alarms off.

I remind her of this little incident as we’re
waiting for our food and I finally see the smile come back, the one that’s been
missing since she heard me talking about Boston. I pull her closer and press a
kiss to her head, wishing we could just stay here in this moment forever.

After we’ve got our food, the four of us
sit at one of the outdoor tables that line the wharf. There are tourists
milling about everywhere, although it’s not busy enough to be annoying. The
conversation over lunch is light and easy. Ryan and Erin are constantly
disagreeing with each other, but it’s in that, yes-you’re-wrong-but-I-totally-want-to-fuck-you-kind-of-way.
I steal a glance at Kelsey and see she notices it too.

“You find out what went down between them
yet?” I lean over and whisper.

Kelsey smiles at me in a way that says she
hasn’t just found out, she knows every single gory detail. “I’ll fill you in
later,” she says, pressing a salty kiss to my lips.

I lean in for another one when the sound of
an incoming text message rings out. Ryan and I automatically check our phones,
but the minute Kelsey picks up hers and I see her face, I know it’s for her.

“What the fuck has he sent now?” I ask,
reaching for her phone.

Kelsey says nothing, just hands me the
phone as she stands up and walks towards the edge of the wharf. I glance down
at her phone and when I see the text message, my blood starts to boil.

Just
because you’re fucking him, doesn’t mean I’m letting you go. You’re mine,
Kelsey…MINE.

“Fucking hell,” I say, practically throwing
her cell at Ryan.

“What is it?” he asks, catching it before
it flies over his shoulder.

I run a hand through my hair as I look at
Kelsey. She’s standing at the edge of the wharf, arms wrapped tight around her
body as she stares out at the water. So much for the perfect moment, perfect
day.

Turning back to Ryan, I meet my partner’s
stare as I say, “I think I’m gonna need your help.”

“What do you need?” Ryan says immediately.

I look at Erin, who looks concerned, and
then back at Ryan, before standing. “Can you get me a trace on that number?” I
say, nodding towards the phone.

Ryan glances down at the screen and reads
the message. When he looks back up at me, his face has hardened. Ryan Summers
the tourist, now replaced by Detective Ryan Summers, the Boston cop.

“Of course,” he says, pulling out his own
cell phone. “I’ll call it in now.”

“Thanks, buddy,” I say before I walk over
to Kelsey.

She doesn’t move as I slide my arms around
her waist from behind and pull her against me. As I press a kiss to her neck
though, I feel her body sag against mine, a mixture of exhaustion and
frustration washing over her.

“We’re going to catch this fucker, baby. I
promise you.”

Kelsey nods, although I can tell she doesn’t
really believe me. “And what happens then?” she asks, her voice quiet.

I tighten my arms and press a kiss to her
cheek. “Then I make sure he never hurts you or comes near you, ever again,” I
say, turning her to face me. As Kelsey looks up at me, I take her face in my
hands, knowing I will do everything in my power to make sure that Jason never
comes near her again.

I don’t just love this woman; I need her
too. Every single part of me needs her and wants her. And because of that, I
need to protect her, watch over her and make sure nothing ever hurts her again.
Including me.

“I promise I’m going to fix this, babe,” I
say before I lean in and kiss her.

Chapter
Thirteen
Kelsey

He doesn’t understand my question. “And
what happens then?” I asked, but his response was not the answer I was looking
for.

As much as I’m concerned with what may
happen with Jason, I don’t doubt Beck’s ability to find him and put an end to
all this. I need to know what happens after it all ends. What happens to Beck
and his job in Boston? What happens to us?

I can’t look at him, my face in his hands,
his lips to mine, so soft and comforting. I close my eyes, but the tears begin
to fall. As much as I’m trying to convince myself to live in the moment, to be
happy and enjoy what I have right now; I’m struggling.

I pull away from him and bury my face in
his chest. I can’t ask him to choose again. I can’t ask him to give up his career
and everything he’s worked so hard to achieve. So I won’t.

I can’t burden him with the additional
stress because I can see the situation with Jason is wearing on him. Right now
he’s tense in my arms, his body stiff and all because of the fact I brought
Jason into my life. Something in him can’t allow Jason to come near me; his
need to protect me is far stronger than I ever thought.

Pulling him tighter against me, I kiss my
way up his neck. My lips touching his collarbone and continuing up until I’m resting
my lips against the pulse in his throat. I feel it beating, calming me and just
being this close to him, feeling his body against mine and the smell of his
skin, it all soothes me.

Beck presses a kiss to my temple and
whispers, “Everything’s going to be okay, baby.”

I nod again and Beck leans away from me. Running
his thumb along my cheek, my body shivers responding to his touch.

“Let’s go home. I think we’ve had to deal
with enough shit for today,” Beck says, taking my hand in his.

I follow him, trailing behind as I look
around, wondering if Jason is watching me, wondering how long this can possibly
go on. I give in to Beck without argument because I don’t have the strength to
argue. The staff at the inn has been wonderful through all of this and I owe
them all raises.

Ryan and Erin follow us back to my house so
Beck and Ryan can figure out a plan and meet up with Finn. All three have been
working tirelessly to find Jason and with Ryan and Beck’s Boston connection, it
shouldn’t be long now.

Finn pulls up moments later and the guys
meet on my front porch, sending Erin and I inside so they can talk.

We stand in the living room staring out the
front window, listening to the muffled voices as they quietly discuss what to
do next. I hear Finn say he has a lead that he has a few guys following up, along
with few guys from the Boston PD. I’ve given Finn all the information I have on
Jason; his phone number, the address to his home in Boston and his work
address, but it seems that he hasn’t been back to his house in weeks and he
quit his job right around the time that all of this started to go down. The
only thing that seems to have remained the same is the number to his cell
phone, the one he keeps contacting me from.

Erin looks over at me, a cheeky smile on
her face and she giggles.

“What?” I ask, knowing whatever Erin is
thinking is dirty and will probably make me laugh. She’s great at making you
forget and I love her for it.

“Look at those boys out there. It’s like
the best porn movie ever. Cops being all protective and shit.” She shakes her
hips and begins to hum a tune, which can only be described as a loop of porn
music. Running her hands over her boobs and licking her lips, she has me
laughing hysterically.

I reach over and slap her ass just as Ryan
walks in the door. He stops dead in his tracks, gives Erin a wide-eyed look and
then runs his hand through his hair.

Mumbling a “fuck me”, he asks Erin if she’s
ready to go. She gives him a quick nod before slapping me on my ass, making
Ryan look extremely uncomfortable and shifting himself in adjustment.
