“You will not lay a hand on them.” Donovan takes a step forward.

“A war then.” Erik touches the tips of his fingers together in a gleeful way. “This should be fun.” And then with a wink, he’s gone.

I turn in Michael’s arms and shove against him. “Did you know?”

“Gabby. Shh. It’ll be okay.”

“Tell me. Tell me you didn’t …” Tears sting my eyes, so I let them fall. “He’ll kill you.” I pound a fist into Michael’s chest. Again. And again. “He’ll kill you. Oh God, please don’t—” My voice breaks on a sob. I have to … I have to … I grab the fabric of his shirt and hang on to keep myself upright. Michael. Good and sweet and strong Michael. Selfless Michael. I can’t lose him. I rest my forehead on his collarbone, my shoulders rack as I weep.

His arms form a fortress around me. “I’ve got you. Hear me? I won’t ever let go.”

Jess Evander is the pen name for author Jessica Keller’s young adult fiction. A Starbucks drinker, avid reader, semi-professional fangirl, and chocolate aficionado, Jess spends way too much time on Tumblr and Twitter. She is multi-published and writes both Young Adult Fiction and Romance. When she’s not writing, she can be found dancing in her car at stoplights or in a comfy chair engrossed in reading a YA fantasy novel. She lives in the Chicagoland suburbs with her family.

Don't ever let someone tell you that books are the sole work of one person. It's just not true. This book would not be in your hands today without the help of many, many people.

To every person who took a chance on
Saving Yesterday
and loved Gabby and Michael so much that you kept asking about book two, you are my favorites. I do not kid. This series is precious to me and I wish I could hug and have a cup of coffee with everyone who takes the time to read it. And those who posted reviews? You are nothing short of my superheroes. Every single one of you. An author’s career dies without reviews—I continue to write because of my incredible readers.

Thanks and infinite Starbucks to Amanda G. Stevens, Charity Tinnin, and Finley Aaron who were far more than crit partners, they were cheerleaders, shoulders to cry on, and endless sources of brainstorming magic. This book wouldn’t exist without them. Period. Amanda and Charity, you are my best friends and I’m grateful I get to walk through life with both of you.

Passes cupcakes to Joanna Davidson and Tari Faris for being beta reading wizards who both share the ability to bypass the space-time continuum—both finishing and giving feedback in under thirty-six hours. Your input made the story stronger. Also boxes of glorious homemade cookies to Kristen Ethridge and Carol Moncado who have texted, messaged, and talked me through my freak out moments on more than one occasion.

About six months ago I felt alone in the YA writing world and specifically prayed to find more young adult writing friends. Since then I’ve been over and abundantly blessed to be surrounded by Kim Vandel, Serena Chase, Finley Aaron, Charity Tinnin, Susan Kaye Quinn, Carey Corp, and Lorie Langdon. I cherish each of you. These women are dedicated to Young Adult Fiction Awesomeness and I’m honored to be part of this genre with them. Look up their books. Seriously.

Thank you to my parents who continue to cheer on my writing efforts and—as always—forever love to my amazing and supportive husband and sweet daughter who give me the time and love needed to pursue this crazy dream of writing.
