What could be cuter than these little heart-shaped cookies? The bold
outline of the cookies perfectly complements the graphic red-on-white design. They are the ideal gift for a special valentine.
one
Bake heart-shaped butter cookies and ice them in ivory sugarpaste (see pages 34–36).
two
Make the rosebuds (see steps one to three, page 115) and stick one onto the centre of each cookie with a little royal icing.
three
Decorate the cookies with different designs to ensure they look interesting when grouped together. Experiment with adding small piped sugar pearls and outlines and leaving some white with just the rosebud.
All Wrapped Up
With such a bold design, these little
cuties only need a clear bag and red satin ribbon to create modern gifts or favours.
I had such a great response from readers of my last book,
Sweet and Simple Party Cakes
, expressing their delight at the designs and saying that I inspired them to get out their rolling pins and aprons and bake! It made the process of making this second book exciting and challenging, as I knew I had to create something wonderful and new for my readers. My first thanks, therefore, go to all the people who have sent me emails and cards expressing their joy at my first book. For
Sweet and Simple Romantic Cakes
, I would like to thank my sister Isa for all of her help and support, and the team at David & Charles, in particular Sarah Underhill and Ame Verso. A big thank you also goes to my photographer, Ginette Chapman, it was a pleasure working with you again. And Daron, thank you for everything – this one’s for you.
