She kissed him and he gave himself up to it, let himself fall into her. Let himself get lost in her. With greedy, hungry hands, fevered kisses, and demanding strokes, they pushed each other higher. Hot little whimpers, dazed cries that she muffled against his lips—Quinn gritted his teeth and tried to fight it. But it was like fighting the tide—impossible.
“Too fast,” he muttered as she clenched down around him.
But he was already coming. And so was she, flying apart in his arms and whimpering out his name as she shattered around him.
DEVON craned her neck as she followed Luke out onto the deck. “Hey, I thought I heard his bike.”
Luke glanced at the garage but then looked back at his wife, tangling a hand in her hair. “You’re too interested in my brother lately,” he teased.
“Nah. I don’t need a sexy brooder—I like my sexy doctor much more.” She rose onto her toes and pressed her lips to the corner of his mouth.
The light in the garage went out and she watched, waiting for Quinn to emerge, but he didn’t. “Hell,” she muttered. “Maybe it didn’t go well?”
Luke frowned. “No . . .” He squinted his eyes, searching inside for that indefinable bond he had with his brother. Over the past month, there had been a sadness, a grief that was unlike anything he’d ever felt from his brother. It was gone now—that pain.
But Devon was already crossing the deck, jogging down the steps. She’d gotten very protective of his twin lately, something that made him adore her even more. Quinn wasn’t the easiest person to like, but Devon loved him, just the way he was.
“Damn it, Dev, wait,” he said, jogging to catch up with her. For such a petite woman, she moved like a rocket when she wanted to.
Halfway down the walkway, his rocket stopped. As he drew even with her, she glanced at him, her lips curling into a grin. Before he could ask why, he heard something—
It was hard to tell in the dim light, but he could see the faint blush creeping up over her cheeks. “Ahhh . . . maybe we should go back in.”
He slung an arm over her shoulders. “Good idea.” Both of them were smiling as they headed back into the house and up the stairs to the little apartment Quinn’s landlady had let them use while they were in town.
As he shut the door behind him, Devon turned to look at him. He didn’t even have to say anything—she knew. Devon came to him and slipped her arms around him. Against his chest, she whispered, “He’s going to be fine, Luke.”
“I know that . . . I just . . . fine isn’t enough. I want him happy.”
“Something tells me that woman won’t rest until he’s just that, baby.”
An ache, one that Luke had carried around for far too long, slowly began to fade. “Yeah. I think you got that one right.”
HOURS later, Sam lay curled against Quinn, stroking his hand. She was tired, but she couldn’t sleep. Being this happy was a high she could get used to, way too easily.
“You’re thinking too loud,” Quinn murmured against her shoulder.
She craned her head around and kissed his chin. “Sorry. Can’t help it.” Turning in his arms, she cuddled into his chest. “Did I tell you I met your brother?”
A grin tugged at his lips. “Really?”
“Yeah.” She smirked at him and said, “Gee, a twin. Fancy that.”
He shrugged one shoulder and brushed her hair back from her face. “Maybe one of those things we really need to know about each other, huh?”
“Maybe. Of course, if I’d known
earlier
, I might not have punched him.”
He blinked, staring at her with a rather adorable, confused look on his lean face. “Punched him?”
“Yeah. He was kissing his wife. I thought it was you. So I hit him.”
Seconds ticked away as he stared at her and then abruptly, he started to laugh. “You hit my brother because you thought it was me, kissing some other woman?”
She sniffed. “You don’t have to sound so happy about it.”
“Why the hell not?” he asked.
He didn’t sound
happy
, she decided. He sounded utterly delighted. She tried to glare at him, but it fell flat. Something popped into her mind and she pushed up on her elbow, smiling down at him innocently. “You know, it’s a good thing I had those rubbers with me.”
He slid a hand down her hip and said, “Damn good idea.”
“Yeah.” She watched him from under her lashes and added, “Especially now that I think about Luke and all.”
His brows dropped low over his eyes. “What in the hell does Luke have to do with me wearing a rubber?”
“Well . . . think about it. You’re a twin. I’m a twin . . .”
Quinn went white. “Oh, shit.”
Giggling, she pushed him onto his back and climbed astride him. “Oh, the look on your face . . .” Then she dipped her head and rubbed her lips against his. “Hey, don’t look so panicked, baby. We’ve got time to think about that. Plenty of time.”
He swallowed. “How much time?” he asked.
“The rest of our lives, if we need it,” she whispered.
“Hmmmm.” He slipped his arms around her and pulled her close. “That might be enough time. Maybe.”
