Jake’s mouth covered hers, as his insistent thrusts became faster and deeper. A guttural groan roared from his throat as with one final lunge, he spilled his seed deep inside her.

“Fuck, you’re something else, woman.”

Lia gently caressed his face. “You, too, Sir.”

With their breathing still heavy, they rested their weary heads on each other’s shoulder. Jake whispered, “I love you, Lia. I always will.”

Epilogue

Two years later

With shaking hands, Lia placed the telephone receiver back in its cradle. Although she’d been expecting the news, it still came as quite a shock.

She looked up from her position in the reception area. Through glass doors she could see into the fitness center. It had been open two years now, and business was booming. All the treadmills overlooking the hotel entrance were in use, and many other pieces of equipment were being used by paying customers.

Jake and she were in the process of rolling out Constantine Fitness Centers in all his other casinos, too.

Now everything was about to change.

Lia glanced at her watch. She urgently needed to speak to Jake before he went to lunch. She couldn’t hold off telling him a moment longer.

“Kate, I’ve gotta go. I’ll be back as soon as I can.”

“Okay, Mrs. Benetti.”

Lia smiled. She still couldn’t get used to people referring to her as Mrs. Benetti. It sounded so wonderful to her ears. As she eased herself from behind the reception desk, she figured Kate could run the center with her eyes closed. However, in the two years since it opened, she still felt the need to keep an eye on things. It was her baby.

She made her way to the elevator and pressed the button for the tenth floor. She wondered how Jake would take the news. Since their marriage, their relationship had strengthened, but what she had to tell him would make a serious difference to their lives.

Madeline looked up as she entered Jake’s suite of offices. “Hi, Lia.”

“Hi, Madeline. Is he here?”

“Yeah, sure, go right in, honey.”

Lia smiled. “I won’t knock. I’ll surprise him.” She placed her finger to her lips, and then held her breath as she silently opened the office door. After entering, she carefully closed it behind her.

Jake was sitting at his desk, studying a collection of legal documents. After several seconds he signed each one with a flourish of his fountain pen. Her heart swelled as she looked at him. He was so devilishly handsome. Dark hair framed his masculine features. His broad shoulders seemed to fill the space behind the desk. She watched him rub a hand across his jaw as he began scanning another document.

Lia made a little cough into her hand, and Jake immediately looked up. His face spread into a beautiful smile, and he held out his arms.

“Princess, this is a nice surprise.”

Lia dutifully went over to him and slid into his arms. She felt so warm and cozy nestled on his lap. “I’ve got something to tell you, Jake,” she murmured, averting her eyes and idly fiddling with his collar.

Jake lifted her chin, forcing her to meet his gaze. “Really? What is it, Lia? I’m guessing it’s important if you’ve left that beloved fitness center of yours to come and tell me. Are my staff treating you right?”

Lia giggled. “Of course they are. They wouldn’t dare do otherwise, what with you being their boss.” She took hold of his hand, and placed it on her stomach. She saw the startled look in his eyes, as realization dawned. His mouth opened, but no sound came out. “We’re pregnant, Jake. I just found out.”

“You mean I’m going to be a father?”

She smiled. “That’s what pregnant means, Jake.”

He immediately hugged her tight, and buried his head in her neck. His voice croaked. “This is wonderful news. The best news I’ve ever heard in my entire life.”

“I hoped you’d be happy.”

“Are you kidding? This makes everything worthwhile. After all the hard work I’ve put into this business, I want a legacy to leave to my kids.”

“Don’t you mean our kids?” she joked. Lia breathed in, enjoying his unique aroma. Was it possible for a woman to love a man more than she loved Jake?

No.

Jake took hold of her shoulders and set her back from him. He looked at her, searching her face with his dazzling blue eyes. “How do you feel? How long have you known? Shouldn’t you be lying down, taking the weight off your feet?”

Lia giggled. “I feel fine, Jake. Really I do. I’ve suspected for a few weeks now. I’ve been having morning sickness, but you leave so early in the morning to go to work, you missed it all.”

Jake tenderly stroked a stray hair from her eyes. “You make me so happy, Lia. Do you know how much I love you? I was an empty shell of a man before I met you.” He held his hand to his chest. “Here lay a cold, empty brick for a heart. I didn’t think I could ever be happy again after Hannah died, but now my heart is full again. I love you, so, so much, princess.” He kissed her passionately to show his feelings.

Lia wrapped her arms around his shoulders, and hugged him close. A sense of contentment soaked into every nerve in her body. Brushing her lips over his sensitive earlobe, she whispered, “I love you, too, Jake. I always will.” He was her Master, her lover, her confidante, her best friend, and now the father of her unborn child. She loved him.
