ith a rip and tearing of flesh another wolf succumbs to my strength, falling down to the ground in human form, dead.

I search for the next target.

Damon and Dillon were taking out the larger wolves together so I wasn’t so worried about them, but I was worried about Derek.

I could tell he was wearing down quickly.

With a moment of rest for me I watch as he barely takes down his current opponent.

Once their last breath leaves their muzzle he falls to the ground in exhaustion.

I’m about to go to his side when I’m suddenly hit from the side.

“I warned you that I would find you.”
London snarls as his fangs tear at the skin on the back of my neck.

“You may have found me but that doesn’t mean I’ll go with you without a fight.”
I answer twisting myself so I could get back to my feet.

“You will come back with me one way or another, Parker.”
He growls.

We face each other with our teeth showing and our fur standing on end.

Damon and Dillon join me as they tap their selves into my sides for support.

Derek joins us as well limping on one of his front legs
.

Staring at London I take notice of the lack of wolves on his side, or rather the absence of his pack.

“You came alone?”
I question.

“My pack is coming.”
He growls out fiercely.

If that was true we had this moment to end this all now.

An alpha like London could be taken down by us if he was truly alone.

With my eyes firmly planted on London I barely notice Derek take on his human form.

“I’m sorry for this, Parker.” He whispers out loud just before I feel something slice through my back.

My wolf cries out twisting as the offending weapon is then pulled out. Turning towards Derek I change into my human form.

“Why?” I whisper confused as I collapse to the ground.

“He has my mate and pups.” He answers honestly as he plunges the knife he was holding into my shoulder this time.

Dillon attacks just as Harley pulls back up on her bike with a gun drawn.

She fires a few shots hitting Derek right on target making him scream out in pain as he pulls away from me.

Behind me London also screams out in pain as she fires off shots at him as well.

“Get onto the bike, Parker.” Damon orders as he runs towards me.

I stand to my feet and run as he and Dillon move to my sides protecting me from anything further.

Stopping by the bike I look up to Harley gratefully. “I can’t move my arm.”

She nods and moves back as she motions to the front seat of the bike. “You can ride between my arms, but hurry because we’ve got more company coming.”

Nodding I hurry to get on with some help from Dillon.

Once I’m on both Dillon and Damon change back into wolf form.

“We’ll be right behind you.”
Dillon grunts.

I nod. “Let’s go, Harley.”

She doesn’t hesitate for a moment before we are taking off down the road back the way we had come, back to the path we should have stayed on.

I had been taken for a fool.

The pain was quickly becoming unbearable as we traveled on with Dillon and Damon running alongside us in wolf form.

Both my back and shoulder were writhing with a pulsing pain.

Blood soaked my clothes as well.

“I’m not healing, Dillon.”
I whisper with fear in his mind alone.

“Why not, your wounds should have healed by now?”
He replies.

“I’m not sure, but if we don’t find some way to heal them I’m going to be in a lot of trouble.”
I answer honestly.

“Tell Harley to stop near the next town then, I’ve got an idea that might work.”
He responds.

I nod and lean back into Harley so she could hear me talk over the wind pounding in our ears.

“Stop at the next town, okay?” I state.

She nods over my shoulder while moving one of her arms firmly around my waist.

I was thankful for her being with me because I was quickly becoming weak, so weak that my eyes were fighting to close.

Fading in and out of consciousness we finally make it to the next town.

Harley stops the bike as Dillon and Damon change forms.

“How is she doing?” Dillon asks as he moves to my side.

“She’s been in and out for the past two miles.” Harley answers.

Placing his hand to my cheek Dillon curses. “We have to take you into the hospital, Parker. We have no other choice.”

I shake my head.

Going to any hospital was forbidden by our kind.

If anyone figured out what we were we would all be in grave danger.

“We can’t, Dillon.” I whisper.

“I’m not giving you the choice, Parker.” He answers sternly.

My eyes shut before I can voice my opinion once more.

aking up to the steady beeping of a machine I groan at my packs stupidity.

Opening my eyes I’m surprised to not actually be in a sterile hospital room like I had expected.

Instead I was in a small cozy room.

The blanket lying across me was a handmade quilt and the chair beside held one similar along with a sleeping Damon.

Moving a little in my bed Damon instantly springs up alert and ready for danger until he sees that I was now awake.

“You’re awake.” He states with wide eyes.

“I am. How long was I out?” I question and glance around the room.

“Where are we?” I add.

“You’ve been out for three days, Parker. The knife Derek used was poisoned. We barely thought you’d make it.” He answers moving to my side.

Taking my hand in his, he smiles down at me. “And for where we are you can thank Gage’s father. It’s his place and he’s the one who helped us.”

“Gage’s father is here?” I ask surprised.

“Yeah, I guess he knew something was wrong when Gage didn’t call like he normally did. Titus decided to come after his son himself, but stopped when he heard about what had happened at your father’s estate.” He explains further.

“I wonder how many packs have heard of what’s happened.” I ask absently.

Damon shrugs. “Who knows, it seems word is traveling fast though.”

I nod in agreement. “So, where is everyone else at? Are Dillon and Harley alright?”

Damon nods. “Everyone is fine, just worried about you, Parker.”

As if right on cue Dillon, Harley, and an older version of Gage walk in.

“Oh, my, god, you’re awake.” Harley hops with joy before running past Damon, giving him a good smack to his chest before hugging me tightly. “Why didn’t you tell us, Damon?”

“I was going to. She just woke up a few minutes ago.” Damon answers her with a laugh.

“It’s good to see you finally awake, Parker.” Dillon grunts as he comes over to my other side as Harley finally loosens her grip.

“I’m glad to be awake too. What all did I miss?” I sigh.

Everyone shares quick glances but no one says a word.

“What happened while I was asleep?” I growl.

“It’s your father, Parker. London decided to make an example of him.” Titus answers. “They have him strung up in the middle of your father’s village.”

“So, he’s still alive?” I ask and he nods. “Well, then we still have a good chance to get our place as top pack back.”

“Yes, but the only way to accomplish that is for you to also find my son.” He replies.

I nod in agreement.

Our only chance was for me to break my bond with London and return with a small army and my new mate to take my rightful place as top dog, so to speak, of the Onyx pack.

“That’s what we’ve been trying to do all along.” Dillon adds. “We just got caught up when Parker’s old flame decided to literally stab her in the back.”

His words bring me back to reality.

My shoulder and back were both still aching as if the wounds had never healed at all.

“Why do I still feel pain?” I ask curiously as I move around wincing at the increase in pain.

“The poison affected your wolf. She’s incredibly sick which is why you’re not healing well. For the most part you are human right now until she recovers.” Titus answers.

“How is that even possible?” I question.

I had never before heard of any such kind of poison that would only affect our wolves like this.

Plus, it was even unheard of that packs would attack the wolves like that. The tactic Derek and London had used was considered cowardly.

And to stab me in the back, both literally and figuratively, was especially not something I had ever expected from Derek.

But on the other hand I could understand it a bit if London really was holding his family against him.

I wouldn’t have been so weak to give into his demands though.

The last thing I would have done was turn on the people who could have helped.

“There have been packs working on things like this for a long time. Not all packs have been happy with your families reign.” Titus replies honestly.

“I figured there would be but I never thought they would go to these lengths.” I sigh roughly. “How long is it going to take her to recover?”

“About two more days, give or take.” Dillon answers this time. “At least, that’s how long it took my wolf to recover when London used it on me.”

Everyone looks in his direction with shock.

“He seriously did this to you?” I ask softly.

He nods sadly. “He did, too many times to count.”

I shake my head sadly as I motion for him to move closer.

As he does, I grab his shoulder and pull him into a tight embrace. “You will never have to go through that again, not as long as you stay by my side.” I vow.
