He growled under his breath. “I don’t want to come yet. I want this to last.” Dan slowed down and reached between her legs, playing with her clit again. She felt like a different woman now.

Jenny couldn’t wait to tell him in the morning. Dan would finally know that she returned his feelings. She was able to fall asleep soon after, excited about what tomorrow would bring.

Dan shook her on the shoulder and yelled, “Wake up!” She struggled to push out of her dream, but it was so nice she wanted to stay there. “Jenny, they’re coming!”

Her eyes popped open. She looked at Dan in confusion. “What are you talking about?”

“Listen,” he said earnestly.

She strained to listen and then she heard it, the far off sound of an engine.

She glanced at Dan with a look of dread, not excitement.

“We have to get this cabin in order, make sure everything is in its proper place,” Dan told her, throwing on his jeans and looking around for his shirt.

Jenny quickly dressed and joined him in picking up the cabin. Neither spoke as they cleaned up the place, hiding any evidence of their affair. Jenny searched his room and found a pair of her panties under the bed. She scooped them up and ran to her room, throwing them in her suitcase. She grabbed the blankets off the couch and quickly made her bed.

She came out of her bedroom and saw that Dan was adding more logs to the fire. Jenny decided to lay out breakfast foods so it would look like they were in the middle of eating. He set the pot on the fire for coffee and then turned towards her. Dan looked at Jenny longingly, in as much shock as she was. Their time was over…

The bulldozer was getting close, the engine noise echoing through the small mountain valley. Jenny looked at Dan sadly. She wouldn’t get the chance to show him how she felt. He would never know that she felt the same way.
Maybe it’s for the best.

Jenny thought of Ryan. A good man with a serious drive to succeed. A man she once saw spending the rest of her life. He was her college sweetheart. Suddenly, she wondered if she loved him enough. She was afraid she would forever compare the two and she already knew Ryan would come up short.

But then there was Kelly, her best friend for over three years. The two of them were inseparable, like long-lost sisters. Kelly didn’t deserve to be hurt. She could never know the terrible thing Jenny had done. If she ever learned of it, Jenny would lose Kelly forever.

Dan stared at her without saying a word. Life was about to return back to “normal” and Jenny wasn’t ready for it. She walked over to him. “Dan, there is something you need to know before they get here.”

“What? You want to pretend this never happened? I’m not sure I can, but if it’s what you want I’ll try.”

“No, Dan. The fact is…”

The roaring engine of the bulldozer sounded like it was right outside the door. Time was running out. Jenny told him, “I love you.”

Dan shook his head. It was obvious he hadn’t heard her over the noise. She yelled it again just as the engine of the bulldozer cut out. The words “I love you!” rang through the cabin loud and clear.

He looked stunned. From outside, Jenny heard the slam of a car door and then Ryan called out. “Hey, is anyone home?”

“You’re serious, Jenny?” Dan asked, looking as if he couldn’t quite believe her.

Jenny heard the worry in Kelly’s voice when she shouted from outside, “Are you guys okay in there?”

Dan grabbed the back of her neck and kissed her passionately. Jenny returned his kiss, not wanting to let go. Finally, he broke the embrace just as Ryan and Kelly passed by the cabin window. “We have to tell them.”

She nodded her head as she watched the doorknob slowly turn. With tears in her eyes Jenny replied, “I know…”
