“Was she alone?” Dar asked, ignoring scowls from Dane.

Zed shook his head.
“Nope.
She was with some vampire dude. Looked like a higher up, you know?
Belonging to one of those high and mighty covens.
If I didn’t know any better, I’d swear he was her pimp.”

Dar closed her eyes. “Was she being held captive, maybe?”

“Oh no.
She looked like she was enjoying his company. I mean, I’m not into men or nothing, but he was a very good-looking man, tall, blonde, and well built. He could have any woman he wanted.”

She peered at Dane who was now seething. Oh well, she’d pay the price later. She’d totally ignored his demands, but she didn’t care at this point.

had been here. Now all she had to do was find her.

“What coven?” Dane asked.

“It’ll take a few hours to get there,” Zed warned. “But, you should know. They’re heavily guarded.”

“Duh!”
Dane smirked.
“Against what?
I don’t think too many humans around this place are growing balls big enough to fight against the vampires.

“But, they’d never take that chance.
There’s
a lot of other creatures existing in these parts. You know, werewolves, skin walkers, and shit like that.” He wiped his nose with the back of his hand.
“Anything else?”
Zed asked.

Dane wrinkled his nose.
“Gross man.
That’s just gross.” He glanced over at Dar. “No, I think we’re good.”

“Just then, the waitress came by and set their plates down.
 
“Anything else?” she asked, in a weary tone.

“We’re good.”

The waitress slowly shuffled away, leaving them to their conversation. The dank aura surrounding the woman was pulling Dar's energy level down. As a matter of fact, the human realm was one big ball of depression. “Well, I want to find out where they went.” She insisted.

“We’ll rest, first.” Dane told her. “You need to regain your energy.”

“But, it’s daylight now. They’ll be asleep and we can infiltrate their lair.” She refused to be told what she’d do.

“You’re going in half-cocked,” Dane growled. “We’re both low on energy, and you don’t even know how heavily guarded this coven is.” He narrowed his eyes. “If that was your sister, she sounded like she was having the time of her life! Attractive women sell themselves to master vampires all the time. In return, they’re treated like gold. They’re provided for. Given food, shelter, and all the vices they can handle. So, what the hell do you think they’ll do with fairies?”

“Vices?”
She chirped.

“Yeah.
Clothes, drugs, booze.
Whatever their drug of choice is.
This world is shit. There are no jobs. No money. Humans die and wither away. A vampire would really treat a fairy like gold. Fairy blood is intoxicating.”

Dar shivered because he was now looking at her like she was a buffet. “Can you focus on anything else instead of food?” She frowned when he laughed in deep, dark tone.

“Well, I’ll be leaving now.” Zed told them. “You guys

be okay?”

“We’ll be fine,” Dane insisted. He shook Zed’s hand. “Look man, thanks.”

“No problem. Be safe, hope to see you around soon.”

“Hopefully not,” Dane said quickly. “I’m looking to get as far away from here as I possibly can. That’s after I collect on our bargain.”

“No, that’s after you’ve helped me to locate my sister!” Dar lowered her voice. “I’ve got what you want. You don’t get it until you help me!”

“Oh, you like being on top, don’t you? You know you’ve already broken several different rules by running off at the mouth like you did.” He pointed a finger at her. “I told you to keep your mouth shut, didn’t I?”

“Fuck you,” Dar snapped. “I don’t know who the hell you think you are, but you don’t own or control me. I’ve had it with your cockiness and bad fucking attitude!”

Dane held his head back and exhaled. “You know. You give off the most intoxicating pheromones. I love it when you’re pissed. Such strong energy!” he breathed.

“I’ll show you just how much of an ass I can be once we get to our room.” He tossed some silver coins onto the table for the meal.

had grown tired of the control. She struggled with her hands behind her back. She tried to zip away from him, but he held her fast. Her powers had all but deserted her. She needed time to regenerate. “Let me go, or you’ll be sorry. I swear by all that is powerful, I’ll kill you!”

“Broken promises shall die on your lips.” Dane whispered as he released her and quickly slid out of his leather garments.
