“Ya that’s fine with me, I am tired and hungry,” Cali said
rubbing her tummy.

They came to a small town called Roseville. They saw a
restaurant called Sally’s and pulled in to the parking lot. A
waitress came and took them to their table. The waitress
was a pretty girl short bleach blond hair and brown eyes.
She was tall and curvy and couldn’t take her eyes off
Edwin. Her uniform was an orange button down dress and
her buttons where open just enough to show some
cleavage. She was smiling and giggling the whole time she
was taking their orders. She focussed all her attention on
Edwin, as if Cali wasn’t even there. He flirted with the
waitress but he kept looking over at Cali to see her
expression. Cali was pretending not to notice but she was
jealous even though she was the one that made up the
friend rule and told him he could pick up other girls.

The waitress left and he sat there and looked into Cali’s
eyes and just smiled at her. A smile that said you want me
so bad and I have all the power. She smiled right back at
him with the same smile. They were playing a game that
Cali didn’t know how to play but it just came naturally.
They both sat there looking into each other’s eyes not
saying a word until the waitress came over with their food.

Edwin looked at the name tag across her chest; “Hey
Naomi we’re looking for a motel for the night is there one
close by?”

“Ya there is a motel about two blocks away right on this
street you can’t miss it,” Naomi said giggling.

“Is there anything fun to do in this town after hours?”
Edwin asked, touching her arm.

Cali watched him and shook her head he was making her
sick; she wasn’t feeling jealous anymore now she just
wanted to laugh at him.

“Ya there is a sports bar on Main Street called Sticks and
there is also a night club called Bogy’s just depends what
you’re looking for”.

“Well let’s say I was looking for you where would I go?”
Edwin asked with this seductive look in his eyes, she bent
down so he could see right down her shirt.

“If you’re looking for me I’ll be a Bogy’s around 11,” she
said smiling as she walked away.

“Wow that’s impressive,” Cali said clapping her hands and
shaking her head as she let out a little laugh.
“I would blow her off in a second for you but you have
made it very clear that nothing is going to happen between
us. You said you didn’t care if I picked up other girls,”
Edwin said shaking his head, like he couldn’t help it.

After they were done eating they left and went to the motel.
Cali waited in the car while he checked in. He came out
and handed her a room key.

“Sorry sweetheart but we’re roomies tonight, they only
have one room available but you’re in luck at least there
are two beds”

“Really I have a hard time believing there are no other
rooms available,” Cali said looking at him, but he didn’t
say anything he just smiled.

The motel room was small and damp. The room was
yellow and the carpet was brown, the bedding was orange.
There were two double beds in the room and a night stand,
nothing else not a radio or a TV.

“Well this is lovely,” Edwin said laughing. “I am going to
hop in the shower before we go out.”

“Oh no thanks, I am not going out with you,” Cali said
annoyed.

“Ok suit yourself; I’m going for a shower,” Edwin said as
he walked to the bathroom.

He went into the bathroom and when she heard the water
running, she pulled her pajamas out of her bag and took
off her clothes to change. Her back was facing the
bathroom and she didn’t hear him open the door. He
stopped when he saw her standing there naked. He saw
her almost perfect body, her perfect shape with curves
and her perfect skin all covered in scars her back was the
worst but her legs and arms had some too. His heart broke
a little only imagining what she had gone through in her
life. He quickly shut the bathroom door so she wouldn’t
see him. He wanted to run out throw his arms around her
and tell her he wouldn’t let anyone hurt her again. But he
couldn’t let her know what he saw it was her secret and he
had secrets too that were just as dark.

Cali put on her pajamas, grabbed her sketch book and got
in to bed. She wanted to draw. She hadn’t sketched in a
while but she just needed to draw tonight and there was
nothing else to do. She sharpened her pencil and opened
her book to a new page. She loved the way a pencil felt in
her hand as she created something on paper. Drawing had
always been her escape from reality. Her pictures took
her to another world with no pain or sadness just love and
joy. Pictures were her release.

Chapter 9

Cali was so intensely into her drawing that she never
heard Edwin come out of the bathroom until he was going
through his bags. She looked up and he was standing
there with nothing but a towel on. He looked amazing his
body was still a little wet and he had little beads of water
running down his chest. He was thin but had definition in
his arms; he saw her checking him out and he flashed her
his incredibly charming smile. She got lost starring into
his eyes. She wanted to throw her book across the room,
run over to him and kiss him but she couldn’t, she was
scared, instead she looked away.

“You don’t have to be embarrassed, you can stare as long
as you like,” Edwin said playfully as he walked back
towards the bathroom.

She didn’t say anything; she looked back at her book and
kept drawing. She hated how he got to her but she couldn’t
control how she felt about him even though she was trying
so hard to resist him.
He emerged from the bathroom again but she didn’t look
up, she just took in his alluring sent. She shut her eyes
and breathed him in deep, he smelt so incredible. She
didn’t want to open her eyes and look at him because she
knew he would look even more marvelous than he smelt.

“So you are really going to just sit in this room all night
alone writing in your little book?” Edwin asked her
standing at the foot of her bed.

“Yes I am comfortable all I want to do is draw my pictures
and relax,” Cali said opening her eyes without looking up
at him. She saw he was wearing light blue jeans. She
slowly moved her eyes up his body he was wearing a
white t-shirt and his black leather jacket. That was kind of
his look and he pulled it off very well. She looked up at
him and tried to look away but his eyes caught hers.

“I wish I could convince you to come have a drink with me,
it would be nice to loosen you up a bit,” he smiled at her.

“Maybe another night when you don’t have a date lined
up,” Cali rolled her eyes looking away from him. She didn’t
know why she cared so much he was just a pretty face and
a smooth talker that would pick up any girl. She told
herself she was doing the right thing by not giving in to
him.

“Well if you’re not going to come out with me at least you
could tell me that I look good,” Edwin said looking away
like he was hurt she didn’t make a comment.
“I don’t need to tell you, how good you look and smell
because your head is big enough,” Cali laughed and
shook her head and she went back to drawing. “If your
head gets any bigger it won’t fit through the door.”

“Oh so I smell good too, do I?” he said in a cocky voice.
She ignored him and kept her head down looking at her
book.

“Ok well then I am off, unless you have decided to come
clean and admit you want me,” Edwin said joking.

Cali stopped drawing; she bit the end of her pencil and
looked up at him with a sexy look on her face. She didn’t
say anything she just looked at him, she took the pencil
out of her mouth and set her book on the bed. She got off
the bed slowly walk up to him looking into his eyes. She
got up real close to him placing her hands on his chest
and she smiled, looking into his eyes. She ran her hand
through his hair and moved herself in close enough that
their bodies where touching. She could tell he was
interested and excited. He wanted her.

“No I think you better go, your date’s waiting for you.
Trust me you’ll have a better time with her,” Cali said
pulling away from him as she walked into the bathroom.

“You’re not all that sweet and innocent” he replied. She
was beating him at his own game.

Cali shut the bathroom door her whole body was shaking
she didn’t even know she had that in her. He brought out a
whole new side of her, one she didn’t know even existed. A
part of her wanted to tell him to stay and that she did want
to be with him but a bigger part of her was scared. She
told herself if he really liked her he wouldn’t be leaving to
see some other girl. She shook her head, it was better if
they just stayed friends. She went to the bathroom washed
her hands and when she came out of the bathroom he was
gone. She was all alone. She went back to the bed and
drew in her sketch book. As she was drawing tears fell
down her face she didn’t even really know why she was
crying. She liked Edwin and wanted to be with him but she
couldn’t be because she was a killer on the run and she
couldn’t drag him into her crazy life.

Cali ran herself a hot bath. The water embraced her and
made her feel safe. For a brief moment when the water
was draining it was if it was taking all of her worries with
it.

Cali was in the middle of brushing her teeth when she
heard somebody at the door. The noise startled her. It was
only eleven thirty so she didn’t think Edwin would be back
so early. She didn’t turn the lights on she ran really fast to
the bed and grabbed a pillow off the bed and stood beside
the door. When the door opened and a man walked inside
she attacked him with the pillow. She was screaming and
crying she was so scared her heart was beating so fast
she could barely breathe. The man fell on the floor in the
fetal position and screamed back at her as she continued
to beat the man with the pillow.
“Cali, Cali, Stop it’s me,” Edwin screamed out loud. Cali
stopped and turned on the lights and saw Edwin on the
floor with a bag in his hand. “You’re insane; who else did
you think it would be?” He got up off the ground shaking
his head at her.

“Well it’s so early I didn’t expect you back so soon so I got
scared. I have seen movies where people get killed in
motel rooms. I was all alone and got scared. I am sorry I
hit you with a pillow. Did I hurt you?”

“No I am fine,” he said as he set the bag on the bed and
took off his jacket.

“So did you not have a good time? Why are you back so
early?” Cali asked interested as she sat on her bed. She
was happy for whatever reason he was back with her and
not out having fun with that waitress.

He started pacing back and forth and shaking he looked
so mad, his face was all red, his eye brows arched and his
lips in a tight line.

“It’s all you fault, I wasn’t expecting to be back this early
either,” He snapped. He reached inside the bag and pulled
out a bottle of cola, rum and two plastic cups. He set the
cups on the night table and poured two drinks, handing
one to her. She shook her head no but he insisted, so she
took the drink but just held it in her hand. He chugged his
and then poured another one, he continued to walk
around the room shaking. “You, I can’t get you out of my
head. I am totally fascinated by you. There I was at a bar
with this totally hot chick kissing my neck and all I could
think about was you. This has never happened to me
before. I couldn’t go through with it. I know you say we’re
just friends but I don’t feel that way. I know that if I hooked
up with that girl tonight we really would never be more
than just friends. I know you think it’s just the chase I like
but it’s not it’s you and the more I get to know you, the
more interesting you become,” Edwin spoke with so much
passion and intensity in his voice the words were pouring
out of him.

She sat there on the bed listening to him rant on about
how much he liked her. She was over whelmed by her
feelings for him and by all the things he was saying. Her
heart was racing and she was shaking. She could feel the
blood was rushing to her face, she could barely breathe,
and she was speechless. Tears came to her eyes and she
felt dizzy but she couldn’t move or talk she just continued
to sit there and listen to him ramble on.

“I get it, you’re not ready to admit you have feelings for
me and that’s ok. You will one day but until that day I will
wait. No more girls I am not going to pick up or hit on
another girl on this trip. Every night I will have cold
showers. If that’s what it takes to make you admit you have
feeling for me then that’s what I’ll do. Don’t say anything,
since this is your fault for being so damn irresistible, you
owe me,” Edwin said pouring himself another drink.

“I owe you?” Cali asked concerned and confused. “What
does that mean?”
“It means you’re getting drunk with me princess, so drink
up,” Edwin smiled as he lifted the cup to her lips and
encouraged her to drink, she chugged her drink really
fast.

“I have never been drunk before,” she said chocking on
her words, “Take it easy on me.”

“Oh really that so shocking you have never done a lot of
things, my poor sheltered friend we will have to change
that. You need to make a list of all the things you have
never experienced and we will make it our plan to do it on
our trip,” Edwin said smiling at her.

“That actually sounds really fun,” she said smiling as he
handed her another drink.

“It’s way too quiet in here. We need some music or
something,” Edwin said looking around the room.

“There’s nothing, I already tried not even the alarm clock
radio works,” Cali said.

“Well then I guess we will have to make our own music,”
Edwin opened up the door of the motel room. “I hope you
can sing,” he said looking at her as he left the room. He
came back in the room a few minutes later with a big smile
on his face and a guitar in his hand.
