In her unpublished essay, ‘A Try At Freedom’, PH locates the school on West 99th Street, but after checking with the New York Historical Society no such school can be found. Most likely the school Highsmith attended in 1927 was PS 166 on West 89th Street, built by C.B.J. Snyder in 1898.
