“Oh, I do, Channing,” she buzzed, yielding to his alter ego. “Continue why don’t you?”

He appeared to be stabilizing from his fit. So, she didn’t mind listening to him at this point. The sound of his voice was hypnotizing.

Chapter eight

They both had their own agendas. Channing’s to restore the fate of Jace’s marriage and Allison’s to protect her reputation. Neither one of them trusted each other.

“It is Jace’s undying love for his wife why I chose him as my host. He is a good man. Now, we have gone and fucked it up for him.” He hesitated and said, “Allison, I see the confusion and doubt in your eyes.”

“Well, this all sounds a little far-fetched to me—you are telling me you are an
entity
living inside of Jace’s body?” Her pitch heightened.

Even though Allison would like to believe in angels, the spirit world, or something remotely out of the norm, she was raised on pure logic and the power of science. Her father didn’t even allow her to go to church. After he told her that her mother had passed away all she wanted to do was pray for her mother’s soul but he forbid her to do so.

“I mean how am I supposed to believe this?” Allison tried to swallow her laughter, but lost the battle. She let out a perky guffaw that lingered in the room. Jace shook his head in disbelief. “You have to admit it sounds a little crazy,” she exhausted. She was tired of his silly game. At twenty-eight she certainly wasn’t going to start believing in angels or fairytales.

Allison’s words were not meant to offend him, but of course, he was behaving neurotically. Besides, what man in his right mind wouldn’t want a little naughty on the side with no strings attached and with no possibility of getting caught? There were only two answers to that question—either he was a man filled to the brim with guilt or a crazy man. The answer was staring her straight in the face.

“I am not crazy and neither is Jace.” A dark shadow filled his eyes.

“Well, you just read my mind. I was just wondering if you were. Now that you answered that question we can rule that one out.” She laughed, slightly.

“Aah, glad you agree,” he said sarcastically. “You know Allison.” He paused. She loved the way he said her name. “In my opinion, you have been taking advantage of him...in more ways than you did today.”

Allison flashed her unusual colored eyes laced with flecks of yellow at him. She did not like what Jace was implying. Even if it were true, hearing it out loud angered her. Her mouth hung open, shocked by his forwardness to judge her so harshly. Or so she appeared to be.

“Really, how so?” she questioned. A perplexing expression crossed her pale, dewy and unblemished face. She looked so childlike, naive and innocent. Her coy guise did not faze him.

“Don’t play dumb with me. You know Jace has major guilt issues.”

She interrupted, speaking over him. “Hello. Newsflash,” she quipped adamantly.

He ignored her. “And you are trying to capitalize on them. When he tries to do what’s right but fails in the slightest,
as we all do
, he comes running to you for help. You have milked him long enough, Missy.”

“Milked him?” she slashed out.
  “Are you kidding me?”

“Yeah milked, Babydoll. Pardon the pun,” he retorted, narrowing his eyes to slits.

“You have no right to judge me. Do you know how pathetic he can be? If Jace—” Allison
’s words were suspended in midair. She could not believe she was entertaining his theory that this Channing character took over Jace’s body. Allison smirked. “If Jace merely glances at another woman’s cleavage, aside from his wife’s, he freaks out. Jace cannot compartmentalize the lustful daydreams he has about having sex with other women. This is something he deals with on a daily basis. It’s eating him up. And, it’s getting out of control. The extent of his guilt is that of a preacher man.”

Allison continued to reel off the list of Jace’s weakness on each one on her fingers.

“He has now turned to wearing dark sunglasses at night to avoid seeing the faces of other beautiful woman. They can’t even go out to dinner anymore without him getting deathly ill. He literally throws-up if a server happens to be an attractive woman. Fuck, he took all the TVs out of his house and avoids computers, or magazines covered in sexy images of women...and there’s so much more.”

“Hum...I admit when I am the dormant force, I have seen him go over board at times...but why would you let him come running to you? You’re the epitome of
a sex kitten in high-heels. Tell me, how does seeing you help Jace’s condition?”

His eyes penetrated into Allison’s. She stared hard-pressed back into his challenging mien.

Allison shrugged.

“Answer me!” he roared. His voice diffused her senses, which sent Allison into a blinding tizzy.

“Because I help him—you, I have helped you, Jace. Stop this nonsense! I only thought if you had sex with me, it would knock you to your senses. You have not been an easy case. I was at my wits end with you,” she huffed.  “Do you know how hard it is to watch you whine about feeling guilty for lusting over women? This is normal, Jace! My god, you are a gorgeous man. Most men would kill to look like you. And they certainly would take advantage of your assets. Jeez! The truth is men are meant to spread their seed,” she said and continued on without taking a cleansing breath...

“So, get over yourself Jace and quit trying to be a fucking saint! Now that you have gotten what you have wanted all along you’re trying to put the blame on me for your indiscretions. Well, you can forget about it. I did this to help you. Quit pissing your life away and trying to blame others for your guilt. Go bang the hell out of your wife tonight—for all I care bang every woman that turns your fancy. I just thought we had something special. But, I was wrong. Please, just leave me alone,” Allison shrilled.

“You’re being selfish, and you know it...the sex was for you,” Jace said with authority, his voice enveloped around her.

“I’m done with this nonsense. Who do you think you are my father?” Allison snapped.

“I’ll never be like your Goddamn father.”

“Oh and here I thought you liked my father,” She said dryly, pushing upright to stand. She felt immobilized and could not move. “The way I conduct
my business is none of your business!
” Again, she struggled to stand. “Why can’t I move?”

“And, the way I conduct my business is none of your business. Now, calm down until I’m done explaining a few things. You’re going to sit and listen. Understand?”

“I’m not a child, Jace.”

“Then stop acting like one.”

“Fine, I’ll give you ten minutes,” she retorted as she wiggled, examining the seat of the chair in utter disbelief that she could not physically move. “Did you put some kind of glue on my chair?”

“That’s ridiculous. Sit still, listen and then I will go.”

“Hello, I’m listening.” Her tone was cold and her demeanor a bit distracted, as she traced her fingers over the exposed edges of the chair. She could not figure out what kind of force was holding her to the seat of the chair.

Perhaps subconsciously she didn’t want to move.

“Thank you. Absorb what I am saying to you. I entered Jace’s body a few days ago; it’s not the first time I’ve done this during my existence here on earth. I guess you could call me an entity.”

“Oh Lord, here we go,” Allison piped in.

“Do
not
interrupt me until I’m finished,” he said with agitation in his tone. “Jesus Christ woman.”

“Finish,” she buzzed, throwing her hands into the air.

“I’m not someone that has died before, but rather someone that was tired of living the way I was and hurting others all the time. So, I left my body. Picture an out of body experience.”

“Jace, this is preposterous,” Allison protested, still preoccupied, fidgeting to lift her ass from the chair.

“No, you must hear me out. This time I chose Jace as I previous
ly said because he’s a good man. I wanted to know what it felt like to live a pure, clean life instead of taking advantage of women as I always have done before. Of course, this wasn’t always my fault but, nonetheless, I used women. I am cursed. Sex was like a game I’d play, gaining points.”

Allison tried to interrupt him again, “Jace...”

“I am not Jace!
What do I have to do other than fuck you to convince you of this?” He raised his voice, causing Allison to lean backwards.

Jace stared at her, sternly with half-lidded opened eyes. Damn him, what did he expect her to think? Fucking her right now would be a hell of a lot better than dealing with his insanity. The thought of him inside her caused her to flush. Heat infused her entire body. As crazy as it was, still she entertained the idea of sex with him.

“Please, Jace...I mean—Channing,” she reluctantly said. “This sounds crazier than anything you have shared before. I believe you are having a mental breakdown or something. I can’t imagine that you are developing a split personality.” Her eyes wandered upward, contemplating the thought. “You really don’t fit the protocol. I can prescribe you something to help you get past this. In a few days you will forget this—that we ever fooled around.”

“Don’t count on it,” he contested. “I’m telling you this to protect you too.”

“Protect me?” she asked then rambling on. “Jace, I’m sure you are tired of being the good guy always. I realize now because we crossed the line, you are making up this elaborate story in order to relieve your guilty feelings,” she evoked.

“That is not what this is about. Damn, you are the thickest headed woman I’ve ever met.”

“Sure I am,” she quipped and continued on with her anal
ysis of him. “I figured you’re worried about
your wife
.” Her eyes shifted to the side and back. “Don’t worry, I promised I would never tell
your wife
anything.” Allison kept putting a special emphasis on his wife, making it obvious that her goal was to get under his skin. “What we did was for medicinal purposes. Don’t you think
your wife
will understand this?” She appraised him up and down. “If you don’t think
your wife
will take it well it will never go beyond these office walls. Believe me. Okay? Consider it therapy,” she said, pausing. “Please, just go home and love
your wife
, forget this ever happened between us,” she pleaded with him in an insincere tone.

“No, I can’t. Don’t get me wrong I care about his wife. But mostly
, Missy I’m protecting you from what he might do. Don’t you know what he is capable of?”

“No.” she exhaled long. “You mean—I’m not sure, what do you mean?”

“Well, I’m sure what he’s capable of. Despite that Jace is a good man, like all good men can—he can—will go off the deep end.”

“Please, okay I get it. I just thought,” she stuttered. “Do you mean he will hurt me?” Her voice was riddled with fear.

Allison’s previous concerns about their liaison being exposed were replaced with real trepidation. She knotted her fingers together. A feeling of panic rushed to her limbs. Was Jace capable of hurting her physically? She never imagined he would commit a ghastly act but sane people have been known to snap. Her mind raced.

“Please Channing...do you really think I’m in danger?” Her words trailed off.

Out of the blue, Channing stood up and began to head toward the door. Then, he stopped dead in his tracks and turned on his heels back toward her. He could see she was clearly upset, fisting her hands together and her face was flushed. It would not be fair to mislead her, even though he believed she deserved to sweat.

“No. Jace would not hurt anyone.”

“Oh, thank God,” Allison exhaled a sigh of relief.

“Only himself.
Would you want be responsible for that?” he implored.

“No,” cried Allison.

“You have to learn to take responsibility, Doc,” he uttered, rather loudly, pacing the room, and then took a seat again in the chair opposite of Allison.

“I will...I will,” she said over him. “But what does all this have to do with you?
I mean your situation, whatever that is?”

“I-I need your help now.”

“How do you expect me to help you?”

“By just listening to me.”

“Okay,” she agreed, crossing her arms and legs.

It was so fascinating to her that Jace had literally developed a split personality right before her eyes all because he had oral sex with her. Talk about losing your head. If everything works out today, she’d planned on writing a book about his instant transformation. Of course, she would have to use a pen name to keep her identity covert.
