“They claim there are monsters within the flowers that attack.”

“The monsters within the flowers attack? What kind of monsters? Maybe little ants or people are allergic. It could be some reaction when breathing it in?”

“I’m not sure I believe in monsters.”

Smirking, Dr. Tiberous shook his head. “The villagers were just trying to frighten you.”

“Do I really look like the easily frightened type? The best translation I could come up with was
monster that it brings about
, but I have no clue what it means.”

Phillip chuckled. “It’s probably just the villagers not wanting a bunch of Americans running around in their jungles.”

Ron winked at Daphne. “Naw, I think it’s just some allergic reaction. They couldn’t translate what they meant.”

She shook her head. “I don’t know. Many warned me this could be nothing more than quick death.”

Dr. Tiberous scoffed. “Yeah, well I’m not afraid. I can’t explain it, but I think this flower will teach us so much.”

“Yeah. That’s what I’m afraid of.”

Suddenly, a shrill echoed around them and every sound in the jungle ceased. It was deathly quiet as nothing so much as moved. Even the wind stilled with that shrill as well as the flowers they captured. It was too quiet.

Phillip slowly stood, looking around him, whispering to the others. “Hey, did anyone else happen to notice how eerily quiet it got around here?”

John nodded. “Oh yeah, and that’s not a good sign.”

Ron quickly stood. “Let’s wrap this up, because shit’s about to get bad.”

Glancing around, Daphne took a step back from the cliff. “It’s the calm before the storm. We might want to take this somewhere else. There aren’t too many things that a whole forest is afraid of, and I’d rather not meet it.”

Eight vines suddenly came up over the cliff and danced around over their heads. They looked like dancing cobras waiting to attack.
