With a drop-dead gorgeous smile, she replied, “I’m yours.”

We leaned our foreheads together and dragged in one deep breath after another.

“That. Was. Amazing,” she said.

Smiling, I looked into her eyes. “That was beyond amazing.”

Her eyes lit up with excitement. “Let’s do it again!”

My face dropped. “Um…now?” Shaking my head, I replied, “Baby, I’m good…but I’m not that good.”

She laughed, and it rolled through my body like silk over skin. I loved hearing her laugh.

“Let’s go take a shower,” she said, wiggling her eyebrows.

“Who needs running when I’ve got you demanding endless sex?”

With a quick kiss, I pulled out of her, disposed of the condom, and quickly walked into the bathroom where we both took a shower together.

Once the hot water hit me, I instantly relaxed. Leaning against the shower wall, I let the hot water run over my body. Skylar’s hands soon followed as she cleaned every inch of my body, giving some areas extra attention.

Turning off the shower, I reached for two towels.

“Let’s go to sleep now, Wyatt,” she whispered after she had dried herself and then me off.

Pulling the sheets back, Skylar crawled in, followed by me.

“Roll over, angel. I want to hold you in my arms.”

She did as I’d asked, pressing her body into me while I wrapped my arm and leg around her. We were twisted up together in a perfect knot. It didn’t take me long to close my eyes and drift off to sleep. Even though I knew I had to be up early in the morning to review tapes, I planned on staying the entire night with Skylar.

Right before I drifted into a deep sleep, I heard her whisper, “You’ll always be mine, Wyatt. Forever.”

Skylar

Opening my eyes, I saw the morning light peeking through the blinds. I lifted my hands over my head and stretched. I dropped my hand to my lips and smiled. They felt swollen from last night—and this morning. When Wyatt’s alarm had gone off, he’d moved on top of me and started making such sweet, slow love to me.

Rolling onto my back, I chuckled as I looked up at the ceiling. My body felt amazing.

Wyatt made love to me against a wall last night!

I couldn’t wait to tell Michelle.

With a sigh, I sat up and looked to the empty spot next to me. There was a single red rose on the pillow. Reaching for it, I smiled and brought it up to smell it.

Grabbing my robe, I wrapped it around my body and headed into the kitchen to make a cup of tea. It was Sunday, and all I wanted to do today was sit and relax.

My phone started ringing, so I quickly ran back into the bedroom to get it. “Hello?”

“Hey, girl. How’s it going?”

I was sure Michelle would be able to hear my smile in my voice.

“Perfect. Beautiful. Wonderful. Never better. Wyatt made love to me against a wall.”

“OMG! What? Shut up, you little whore.”

Giggling, I made my way back into the kitchen. “I’m thinking the kitchen island is next.”

“Oh Lord. One visit from your brother Skip, and look at you.”

Laughing, I shook my head. “Have you seen Skip yet?”

There was a brief moment of silence.

“Yep. Saw him last night when he got in and dragged Mitch out somewhere. I still haven’t even heard from Mitch.”

My heart dropped. “What? When was the last time you heard from him?”

“When he walked out the door with his brother. Something’s not right with Mitch, Sky.”

Closing my eyes, I prayed Mitch was being faithful to Michelle. I couldn’t see him being unfaithful, but if he had gone out with Skip, Lord knows what they had been up to.

“What do you mean?”

“I can’t put my finger on it, but he seems…distant. Maybe it’s just me. I don’t know. Hey, my mom was going to make a trip to Waco on Wednesday.”

“Really? Are you coming? We could have dinner or something.”

“Oh, that would be fun! I wasn’t going to go, but maybe I’ll have her swing by and pick me up. It would have to be an early dinner though, if that’s okay.”

“That’s okay. I’ll ask Wyatt if he has anything planned after practice. I’m sure he’d love to see you as well.”

“Maybe we can sneak away, and you can tell me about how things are going.”

My smile faded. “You should call Mitch, Michelle.”

She let out a gruff laugh. “I have been, Sky. He isn’t calling me back.”

The beep in my ear alerted me to a call. Pulling it back, I saw it was Wyatt. “Hey, Wyatt is calling. Can I call you back?”

“Sure. See ya in a few days.”

“Okay, see ya!”

Hitting Accept, I purred, “Good morning.”

“Good morning, angel. How did you sleep?”

“Heavenly. Thank you for the rose.”

“You’re so welcome. We are taking a break from reviewing the game tapes. I wanted to call and tell you I’m thinking about you.”

My chest fluttered. “I’m thinking about you, too.”

“I need to swing by my place and grab some stuff, but I thought maybe we could just hang out at home today. I have a killer project and a test this week that I need to start preparing for.”

With a huge grin, I replied, “You read my mind. I wanted to just stay home today.”

“Then, it’s settled. I’ll let you know when I’m on my way home.”

Blowing on my hot tea, I said, “Okay. Oh! While I’m thinking about it, do you have plans on Wednesday? Michelle and her mom will be in town, and we were thinking about getting together for an early dinner.”

He paused for a quick second. “I’ll have to pass. We’ve got a team meeting after practice.”

“No worries. It was all last-minute.”

“Got to run, angel. Coach is yelling for us to get back inside.”

With a chuckle, I said, “Okay, love you.”

“Love you, too.”

By the time Wyatt came back home, it was near lunchtime. I made us sandwiches along with some mac and cheese. The moment we sat on the sofa, he lay down and rested his head in my lap, and he fell asleep within five minutes.

I let him sleep for an hour before waking him up and letting him study. Afterward, we went out for dinner and then back to the apartment where we made love on the sofa. Then, we lay, wrapped in each other’s arms, watching a movie.

Taking in a deep breath, I slowly let it out. “This was the best day ever.”

Wyatt kissed the top of my head. “It was. I’m afraid this is my last lazy Sunday. Now that football is in full swing, I’m going to be gone a lot.”

Turning to look over my shoulder at him, I smiled. “I know, and I totally understand. It’s going to be a challenge with football and classes.”

His phone buzzed on the coffee table. Reaching over, he grabbed it and read a text. Frowning, he said, “Yeah. I’m starting to think I should have listened and not taken so many classes. Oh well. Let’s not even think about any of that shit right now.”

He hit a few buttons and deleted the text.

As we lay on the sofa, I had the strangest feeling come over me. My perfect, beautiful, amazing, wonderful, and never-better world was about to shatter apart.

“Hey, Skylar.”

Glancing up, I smiled when I saw Zeb Miller standing there. He was in my English Lit class.

“Hey, Zeb.”

“You working on that paper that’s due next week?”

With a frown, I said, “The comparison paper? No. I’m putting that off until the last minute.”

With a chuckle, he looked around. “Where is Wyatt?”

He also played football for Baylor and was an incoming freshman as well.

“He’s supposed to be meeting me here. I’m sure he’ll be here any minute. How was the team meeting last night?”

He looked over my shoulder at something. “There was no meeting.”

Pinching my eyebrows together, I asked, “You didn’t have a team meeting after practice yesterday?”

He was totally distracted.

I went to say something when the air around me changed. I felt him before he ever said a word.

Leaning in, Wyatt pressed his lips against my neck and whispered, “Hey, angel.”

His hot breath on my neck soon had me losing focus on what I had been talking to Zeb about.

“What’s up, Zeb?” Wyatt asked.

“Not much. Was seeing if Skylar had started a paper we have due next week.”

My lower stomach was clenching with desire as I watched Wyatt make his way around the table before sitting across from me. He looked so handsome. His dark hair was a mess. He must have been pushing his hand through his hair. The tight light-green T-shirt made his eyes pop even more than normal. My mouth was suddenly very dry, and I fought to find the words to speak.

“I’ll let y’all get to studying. Later, Skylar.”

Finally breaking out of the spell I was under, I glanced up to Zeb and smiled. “Bye, Zeb. See ya in class.”

Wyatt let out a chuckle while leaning over the table. “You look like you want to devour me, Sky.”

I nodded my head. “I do. Want to skip this?”

His smile faded. “I can’t. I really need to prepare for this test, and this is the only chance I have to study. Plus, I have this bullshit stuff I have to do for a physics project.”

Dropping back against my seat, I pouted. “Fine. If we must act like adults, then so be it.”

Wyatt winked. “Maybe we’ll finish up early and meet back at your apartment.”

That reminded me that Zeb had said there had been no team meeting.

Why didn’t Wyatt text and tell me?

He’d ended up texting me that night, saying he got back to his place and was just going to crash there.

If there wasn’t a meeting, where was he? Maybe he just didn’t want to go out to dinner with Michelle and her mom. Why would he lie about where he was?

My hands started sweating as I thought more about it.

When he talked, I jumped.

“Damn it. Let me go look up and see if they have this book.”

I nodded as I attempted to settle my rapid heartbeat. The best thing for me to do was to ask him. Jumping to conclusions wasn’t going to get me anywhere.

Watching him walk away, I chuckled. I really couldn’t blame him for not wanting to go to dinner with three women. Brushing off the doubt, I looked back down at my book. I’d just simply ask him where he was.

Wyatt’s phone went off, and I couldn’t help but notice the name that flashed across the screen.

Ashley.

Who is Ashley?

Dread filled my body as I tried not to overthink it. She could be anyone.

My teeth sank down into my lip while I pulled his phone over to me and opened the message.

Ashley L.: Thanks again for Wednesday evening. It was for sure worth it, and I hope you think so, too. Will you be able to pull it off again next week?

My heart felt as if it were actually breaking. Covering my mouth, I forced myself to hold back my tears.

He’d lied to me. He’d spent the evening with a girl.

Turning, I saw Wyatt standing at a computer. A girl walked up and asked him something. The way she was smiling at him made me sick.

My head snapped back to the message.

It was for sure worth it, and I hope you think so, too.

My stomach twisted as bile moved to the base of my throat. I quickly gathered up my books and threw them into my backpack. Looking over my shoulder, I watched as the girl walked away, and Wyatt kept searching on the library database.
