“Uh…I’m in Nevada,” she answers nervously.

Nevada?

“I’m in Las Vegas.”

“LAS VEGAS!” I holler into the phone. “Why in the hell are you in Las Vegas? Were you kidnapped? Who are you there with? Oh my god! I’m coming to get you!”

I make eye contact with James’s wide-eyed expression. He mouths, “Las Vegas?” to me before his jaw nearly drops to the ground. This is so very unlike Lizzy, and both of us are more than shocked. I frantically nod my head to him in response.

“Slow down!” she responds instantaneously. “I’m not kidnapped. I willingly came here with someone last night.”

“Oh my god! You’ve been abducted by an alien, haven’t you? Go home E.T.! Go home! Leave my friend alone!” I wail noisily into the phone.

“Amy!” Lizzy tries to shout over my voice.

“I knew I should have gone to church more! You’ve been possessed, haven’t you? It’s not aliens… You’ve been possessed by a demon with a gambling addiction! The power of Christ compels you! The power of Christ compels you! In the name of the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit! Amen!”

“AMY!” Lizzy cuts off my evangelical tirade and telephonic attempt at an exorcism before I can continue. “You need to calm the fuck down,” she demands sternly into the phone.

Hearing her drop the F-bomb stops me in my tracks, and I manage to pull myself together.

“Lizzy, why are you in Vegas? Does Ellen know about this?”

“No, Ellen doesn’t know. I’m not sure how I’m going to break the news to her.”

“News? What news?”

“I got married,” she whispers so quietly that I almost don’t think I heard her correctly.

“Did you just say
married
?” I ask in hopes that she’ll tell me I misunderstood what she said.

“Yes.”

I’m stunned into silence.

And James, well… He’s just as dumbfounded as I am.

After I get off the phone with Lizzy, I stand up from the bed and look over at James, who is still taken aback by my phone conversation. I can’t say I blame him. Lizzy is the last person I would ever expect to just up and run to Vegas to get married. So I do the only thing that seems logical in this moment…

“Pack your bags, James. We’re going to Vegas.”

THANK YOU

This book could not have been completed without the never ending support from my wonderful family and friends. You guys rock. You’ve picked me up more times than you probably even realized and for that, I will forever be thankful.

To my husband, Rob, the man who always seems to know the cure for a headache. Thank you for your endless love and support. It’s your turn to do the dishes.

To my mother, Belinda, the woman who nearly died while giving birth to me. (I’ve heard this story a thousand times) I love you and thank you for everything. It’s safe to say I inherited your dirty mind.  P.S. Rob has made note of all the “new pages” you like on Facebook. I checked them out and I think you’ve got an eye for finding the perfect male cover model. I’ll be utilizing your keen ability for my next book cover.

I could not have done this without the support from some amazing bloggers.
