About the Author

 

 

Catherine Asaro grew up near Berkeley, California. She earned her Ph.D. in chemical physics and her A.M. in physics, both from Harvard, and a B.S. with highest honors in chemistry from UCLA. Among the places she has done research are the University of Toronto, the Max Planck Institut in Germany, and Harvard. She currently runs Molecudyne Research and lives in Maryland with her husband and daughter. A former dancer, she founded the Mainly Jazz Dance program at Harvard and now teaches at the Caryl Maxwell Classical Ballet, home to the Ellicott City Ballet Guild.
She has also written
Primary Inversion, Catch the Lightning, The Last Hawk, The Radiant Seas,
and
The Quantum Rose,
all set in the Skolian Empire/Ruby Dynasty universe and
The Veiled Web,
a near-future suspense novel.
Catch the Lightning
won the 1997 UTC Reader's Choice Award for best science fiction novel and the 1997 Sapphire Award for best science fiction romance.
The Last Hawk
was on the final ballot for the Nebula Award. Her Ruby Dynasty novella, "Aurora in Four Voices," the cover story of the December 1998
Analog
, won the Analog Readers poll, the CompuServe Homer Award, was on both the Nebula and Hugo Award final ballots, and was listed on the
Locus
and
Tangent
Recommended Reading lists.
