Dallas kept his eyes on Anna Marie’s face. “I figured the idea of coming with me to D.C.
would be easier to take when she realizes that she can go to Georgetown University and get her Ph.D., in Library Science and then get hired on at the Library of Congress.” He touched his forehead to hers, their hands linked. “Like you’ve wanted to do all your life.”
Anna Marie put her hand to her mouth to try and suppress the tears from falling, her eyes blazing up at him with such happiness that she almost looked beautiful.
“Oh, great, so you’re bribing her by encouraging her to believe that you can actually make her ridiculous dream come true,” Pepper stormed at him.
“Pepper, shut up,” Cameron ordered.
She rounded on her husband. “You’re actually willing to accept all this?”
“Yes,” he said calmly. “Actually, I couldn’t be more thrilled about it. Not only is my brother going to be staying put and settling down, but I can’t imagine a better woman than Anna Marie for him to settle down with. Now that I think about, it makes sense that only she could make Dallas want to get married and have kids.”
Pepper was turning bright red with frustration and outrage, not at all liking the unusual experience of getting little support, or at least little acquiescence from her normally agreeable husband. “What about the fucking wedding that is going to happen in less than four hours?” The other three looked at one another for a moment. Then Cameron said, “I guess we’d better start making phone calls.”
“Well, you’re going to have to do it without me, because I’m not going to be part of such heinous travesty. I’m leaving.” Pepper grabbed her purse and stormed out. A few seconds later, they heard the car squeal out of the driveway.

“Well, I, for one, couldn’t be happier with this most unusual state of development,” Cameron said. He hugged his brother and then pulled Anna Marie into his arms. “Welcome to the family, Anna. I’m glad you and my brother finally found one another.”
“Thank you, Cam.” She slipped her arms around Dallas’s waist. “I’m so glad you’re at least on board. I’m afraid you might be the only one who is.”
Cameron smiled. “I think my parents will like you very much. To them, you’ll be like a calm balmy breeze, whereas they always found my wife a bit high-strung and straining to their nerves. Now, tell me where your list of telephone numbers and guest list are, honey.”
“I think they’re on the dining room table,” Anna Marie said. “Why?”
He pulled out his cell phone. “I think I better start making those calls.” He left the kitchen.
Anna Marie leaned her head against Dallas’s chest. He tightened his arms around her.
She closed her eyes tight. “I’m afraid to wake up and find that all this is a dream.” He took her chin with his fingers and lifted her face to his and kissed her lightly. She turned and wrapped her arms around his neck and he deepened the kiss. The kiss soon turned passionate. Dallas’s hands grew hard as they began to roam over her curves. He lifted her onto the table, put his hands to the hem of his tee shirt that she was wearing and raised it.
“As happy as I am about you two, I would really prefer you to wait until I’m gone to do that,” Cameron said from the other room. “It’d be better if you two come in here and help me out with these calls.”
Anna Marie laughed as Dallas dropped his hands. He set her on her feet, took her hand, and led her out of the kitchen to help out his brother.
