Epilogue

A few weeks later

Landon ran through the undergrowth, wishing not for the first
time that they lived in a more open area. He stole a look toward the sky, but
he had very little chance of tracking his prey. Sadly, wolves weren't really
meant to hunt down doves.

Still, Landon had never been one to give up easily. Where his
senses failed, he pursued his bond with his mate, following his lover as Angel
flew up above. It wasn't that he didn't trust his mate's flying skills. Angel's
wing had recovered completely, to the extent that even the wariest of doctors
had given him a clean bill of health. However, they had other concerns right
now, just as relevant and important as Angel's previous injury.

Landon couldn't hope to deny Angel the freedom of flight, so
here he was, tracking his mate in a completely unplanned trek through pack
lands. Angel had practically dragged him out and asked him to come along, so
Landon had to admit that it was nice to enjoy the wild with his mate, even if
they were far apart.

Then again, their bond kept them from truly being separated,
no matter the distance. In fact, even now, the connection vibrated with the
exhilaration his mate experienced in the sky above. Landon's satisfaction at
letting his wolf out combined with it, and it was almost as intimate as sex,
their minds completely attuned to one another.

It was for that reason that Landon realized what his
beautiful lover had in mind the second he stepped into the large clearing.
Angel dive bombed toward him and would have probably landed on his head if
Landon hadn't shifted at the last moment. Angel did the same, and when they
came into contact, they were both in human form.

"You really shouldn't be so reckless," Landon
chastised his mate. "You could hurt your wing again."

Angel rolled his eyes and danced out of his reach. "You
worry too much. I have to fly. It's good for us."

Landon was sure that his mate knew what was best when it came
to this particular topic, but it still irked him. There was very little he
could do when Angel was flying, and he'd vowed to protect his mate.

"You're keeping us safe, Landon," Angel assured
him. "You always make sure no human is around to shoot me down. Your pack
lands are safe for me to indulge. I promise I wouldn't take this chance if I
wasn't absolutely sure it didn't risk our children."

It was true. Angel was incredibly protective of their unborn
babies, even more so that Landon himself. Ever since they'd learned about
Angel's pregnancy, they'd both agreed on seeing a specialized Sidhe doctor to
make sure there would be no complications. The woman had told them everything
was in order, and she'd also given them advice on what to do over the following
months—including the extent to which Angel was allowed to shift and fly. She
had, in fact, recommended that Angel go on flying sessions during the first
weeks of his pregnancy, before the size of his shifter became an impediment for
it.

Still, Angel and the children were so precious to Landon that
the concern had become an integral part of him. "I suppose I can't help
but be nervous," he admitted. "Sometimes, it feels like it's all too
good to be true, and I worry."

"I won't tell you to stop," Angel replied, cupping
his cheek with a gentle hand. "I admit that I also have my moments of
anxiety. I've always expected having eggs, and now, it turns out that it's not
possible. But that's okay, Landon. We're doing everything right. Your pack is
learning, and so are we. Yes, this pregnancy is unusual, but stranger things
have happened. The most important thing is that our babies will be
well-loved."

Angel was right, of course. It was another lesson the Lone
Wolf Pack had taught Landon, and not just him. Before the Gathering, many
people would have been surprised at the idea of male pregnancy, but for the
most part, the news had been taken in stride. In fact, the females of Landon's
pack were very excited, anticipating the arrival of two babies as adorable as
Angel. Landon was convinced that some of the elders would eventually start
making noises, but mentalities and opinions were changing. People had begun to
understand that, much like Flowerchild Jameson had once said, love, not anger,
was the most important thing.

So his children would not be pups, and neither would they be
squabs. They'd be both, or maybe something in the middle. Landon didn't care,
and neither did Angel, as long as they were happy and healthy.

The thought filled him with an unbridled joy that chased away
the lingering apprehension inside Landon. Angel must have sensed it, because he
bounced on his soles, grinning at he grabbed Landon's arms. "Now come on.
I told you I had to show you something."

Landon couldn't help a leer as he admired Angel's very naked
body. His mate was just as beautiful now as the first time they'd met, perhaps
even more so. The tiny, barely noticeable swell of his abdomen made pride surge
inside Landon—along with a hefty dose of possessiveness and arousal.

Angel tsked. "Stop that. You're distracting me and this
is important. Now come along."

"Yes, dear," Landon replied placidly. He followed
his mate as Angel made his way out of the clearing and deeper into the forest.

If he wanted to be perfectly honest, Landon wasn't paying
much attention. He was distracted by the sight of his mate's pert ass swaying
in front of him—so much so that he didn't spot the small building until he
almost ran into the door.

It was a small cabin, built out of light-colored wood. Tiny,
it would have looked more like a shed if not for the wide windows and the
elegant curves of the wood carvings. "This is going to be our nest,"
Angel said, his voice trembling a little. "Do you like it?"

Landon looked around in shock and more than a little awe. He
heard the vague uncertainty in his mate's tone and felt the slight discomfort
echoing through their bond, but he couldn't quite come up with an answer just
yet.

"Landon?" Angel prodded. "Say something."

Landon cleared his throat and managed to gather his wits.
"How did you do all this without telling me?"

"My mother helped," Angel answered. "I wanted
it to be a surprise, so I kept it from our bond. You don't mind, do you?"

"Not at all. I was just shocked."

Angel bit his lower lip, fidgeting in a display of
nervousness that only echoed a very small part of the anxiety he actually felt.
"I know that your people are important to you, Landon. I know that for
werewolves, it's important to have pups grow within the pack. But... I
just..."

Landon wrapped his arms around his mate's waist and set his
hands on Angel's abdomen. "You don't have to apologize for how you feel,
Angel. I understand that you're not a werewolf, and I wouldn't expect you to do
anything you're not comfortable with."

Angel turned in his embrace and looked up at him. The
emotions coming through their bond settled a little, but Landon still caressed
his mate's hair, assuring Angel everything was okay. "I was just worried
since I went ahead and did all this without telling you," Angel finally
explained. "It seemed like a good idea at the time, but now..."

Landon kissed his mate's temple, loving Angel more than ever.
"I admit that I don't always understand your instincts as well as I
should. But I am trying, and we'll do things just the way you want them. I am
allowed in the nest, right?"

"Of course." Angel scoffed. "I did say it's
ours. Besides, it's not quite done yet. I still have some personal touches to
add—and so do you." His voice grew softer, almost like a song. "I
want this to be our haven, Landon, just for us, for our family."

With that, Angel pushed the door open. Hand in hand, they
walked into the nest. Landon didn't know what he had expected, but it
definitely wasn't a room full of scattered pillows. He couldn't help a small
laugh, and Angel elbowed him in the stomach. "It's a nest, remember? We
need soft things for when the children are born."

Landon would have replied, but then, he noticed something he
hadn't originally seen. The pillows weren't actually the only element making up
the nest. In fact, Landon caught sight of other types of objects, ones he
instantly recognized. He leaned over and dug through the mass of fluff to
retrieve one of his oldest shirts, which he'd thought lost in the wash. Arching
his brow, he gave his mate an amused look.

"Call it your contribution to the nest," Angel
said, "at least in its preliminary stages." He leaned against
Landon's chest and smiled. "It makes me feel so safe, to be enveloped in
your scent, and I think it helps the children too."

Landon held Angel close and buried his face in his mate's
hair. For a few moments, they just stood there, enjoying the genuine
contentment that pulsed through their connection. Eventually, Landon guided
Angel to lie down in the center of the nest and curled against him.

It was really a glorified pillow fort, in a small, modest
cabin in the woods, but like Angel had said, it was a haven just for them, and
for their children. As they sat there and made plans to expand the nest, Landon
couldn't help but think that if there was one thing humans had done right, it
was anger management classes.

About the Author

Anya Byrne is first and foremost a longtime fan of erotic
romance. Starting to write her own stories was a natural progression of her
devotion for the genre. Years after she put pen to paper in that very first
book, she is just as enthusiastic and, let’s face it, somewhat obsessive about
erotic romance and all that it entails. She is steadfast in the belief that
there’s nothing quite as hot as an amazing hero—except more amazing heroes
engaged in heroic hot lovin’, and has branched out into the field of
self-publishing to convince even more readers of this fact. Hopefully, she will
succeed.
