“As a matter of fact, you can. I just had a few concerns about the report that was faxed over to me, but I’m sure you can answer my questions. How about we meet and discuss it over drinks.”

“Of course. Tell you what, if you’re free in a couple of hours, we can meet at the Monterey Country Club.”

Angel smiled. Perfect. “Sounds good. I’ll see you then.”

“Great. I’ll just leave your name at the door and tell them to be expecting you.”

Angel was going through emails on his computer, but his hand stilled on the mouse when he heard Jaxon's arrogant, pompous tone. Lowering his voice, he replied in the same like manner. "I don’t need you to leave my name at the door," he sneered. "I’m a member. I’ll see you in a couple of hours."

Ignoring Jaxon's stuttering apology when he realized his faux pas, Angel slammed the phone down and leaned back in his chair. Amazing how he had just loaned this man’s company millions of dollars, and yet he still assumed Angel was not his equal. That would all soon change.

“Un
fucking
believable…” he muttered.

Angel drove up to the entrance of the exclusive Monterey Country Club. Yearly membership dues easily rivaled the cost of some people's homes, but it was more than worth it for Angel to make the important contacts that came in handy with his legitimate businesses. The location was absolutely gorgeous and the landscape and design of the grounds exquisite. An impressive array of lakes and streams surrounded the on-site championship golf course which the club was famous for.

Getting out of the sporty Bentley Continental GTC, Angel tossed his keys to the valet. “Take care of my baby, Rodney.”

“Of course, Mr. LaCroix. I always do,” the young man smiled.

Angel had purposely arrived late to meet Jaxson.
It’ll do that arrogant asshole good to wait
, he thought to himself, still pissed off from the earlier conversation. As he walked in, the girl behind the podium smiled and greeted him enthusiastically. “Hello, Mr. LaCroix. How are you today?”

Angel’s smile was charming as he called her by name and complimented her outfit. The hostess blushed, leading him through the restaurant to meet Jaxon. “Have a nice lunch. Let me know if you need anything.”

The invitation in her eyes was blatant and suggestive, letting Angel know she'd be more than happy to offer personalized attention if he so desired. Angel smiled and winked, but didn't give her a second thought. There was only one woman who’d be able put out the fire his body was consumed with; any other paled in comparison.

Turning to Jaxon, Angel made an effort to hide his hatred for the man. People like him thought they were entitled to the fucking world, but he and his family were going to find out very soon that their lives were indeed a bed of roses, only full of razor sharp thorns courtesy of Angel.

After they ordered drinks, Jaxon looked Angel in the eye. “I’d like to apologize if I sounded rude earlier. I meant no disrespect.”

A cutting reply rested on the tip of Angel’s tongue, but he decided to let it go, for now. “No problem. Consider it forgotten.”

When Angel made no effort to end the awkward silence that settled at the table, Jaxon picked up the conversation, determined to appease his most important investor. Once the drinks began to flow one after the other, he jokingly mentioned he wasn’t much of a drinker. Not wanting to risk offending Angel twice in one day, he remained quiet when Angel told the waiter to keep them coming.

After a while, Jaxon loosened up. Angel fed him a few questions and sat back while the jackass talked about things Angel was sure he would never have divulged if he hadn't had one too many. Jax mentioned the financial state of the company and how he was determined to turn things around. He lamented how his father, whom Angel had yet to meet, could be a tyrant who never thought anything Jaxon did was good enough. Angel filed that piece of information away. It might come in handy later if he needed to pit father against son.

“So Jax…how long have you and Nicole been together.”

His mouth lifted in a lopsided smile. "Me and Nicole? We're not seeing each other."

"You're not?" Angel's brow arched in surprise. Nikki had deliberately led him to believe she and Jaxon were a couple. However, now that he thought about it, she hadn't actually said they were, but she'd done nothing to dispel his assumption.

Jaxon sat back and stretched his long legs ou
t in front of him. "No
, but not from a lack of trying on my part. I’ve been crazy over that woman for years,” he slurred. “If she'd give me a chance, I
’d
jump on that in a New York minute.”

Angel took a sip of his drink as he looked over his glass at Jaxon. “Really. What seems to be the problem?”

Jaxon shrugged. “We've been friends for a long time, but she has this rule about not dating men she works with, especially not the owner of the company that signs her checks, but I'm not giving up, man. Making me work for it only causes me to want her more, know what I mean?" Jax cast a conspiratorial grin at Angel. "I mean, can you blame me? She’s intelligent, gorgeous, and sexy. Don’t tell me you haven’t noticed how hot she is, bro.”

“Oh, I have to say, I’ve noticed. So the color thing doesn’t bother you? It’s not a problem for your family that she’s black?”

Jaxon shrugged. “They’re not crazy over the fact, but my father likes and respects Nicole. He happens to thinks she's a very beautiful woman, says he understands my preference for chocolate, to sweeten the palate every now and then."

Angel had heard enough. Unable to stomach Jax another moment, he pushed his chair back abruptly and stood up.

“Leaving already, bro? I thought maybe we’d make it an evening and go visit this gentleman’s club downtown called Sapphire Blue.”

“I don’t think so.” Angel paused before he turned to leave. His hazel eyes were freezing cold as he finally let his dislike for Jax reveal itself. “And by the way... I only have one brother, and it ain’t you.”

He left an intoxicated Jax sitting at the table with a stunned expression on his face, wondering what the hell he'd said to piss Angel off this time.

Chapter 8

Nikki blew out a tired breath as she let herself back into her hotel room.
So much for having time to myself
, she thought.

The entire day had been one meeting after another. All she wanted to do was take a long, hot bath, crawl into bed, and get some rest before she caught her flight in the morning. Picking up the phone, Nikki quickly ordered room service. She was too tired to go down to the dining room, and had turned down the offer to meet the others from the conference for dinner.

Forcing her aching feet to trudge to the bathroom, Nikki turned the faucets on and poured bath oil under the running water. Kicking off her heels, Nikki stripped away her clothes then sank into the gloriously steaming, hot water and leaned back. After the day she’d had, this was nothing short of heaven.

She must have dozed off, because the next thing she knew, she was being awakened by a persistent knocking at the door. Nikki sat up, a little disoriented from the short nap.

“Must be room service.” She hurried and stepped out of the tub, grabbing the oversized bath towel to wrap around her body. The knocking sounded again. “Just a minute. I’m coming.”

Making sure the towel was secure she hurried out of the bathroom. “I’m so sorry. I was in the tub…" She started explaining as she opened the door, but the rest of the words disappeared into thin air. It wasn’t room service. It was nourishment, alright, but not the edible kind. Then again, that was a matter of opinion.

Angelo LaCroix stood in front of her wearing a pair of black jeans, black leather loafers, and a white button up shirt. He was leaning against the doorframe with his arms folded, looking as arrogant as ever and sexier than any man had a right to be.

Straightening to his full height, he walked inside the room without waiting on an invitation.

Nikki stumbled back when he shut the door. They never broke eye contact and neither made an effort to speak. Two
steps brought him directly in front of her, and without uttering a word, Angel put his hands on each side of her face, hungrily fusing their lips in the long anticipated kiss.

Nikki moaned helplessly, not strong enough to fight him anymore. She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him back with the same need he displayed. She had been craving this man for weeks, and tonight she was going to satisfy her longing and face the consequences tomorrow.

Angel groaned as he walked her backwards until her body came in contact with the wall, his hand tearing the towel away from her body.

“Damn. You look even better than I imagined.” Before she could say anything, he brought his mouth back to hers as his large hands covered her breasts, tweaking her nipples and arousing her even further. Nikki tore her mouth away from his, gasping for breath, but Angel didn’t stop.

He kissed a trail to her neck. “Tell me you want this,” he whispered as he moved his head down to capture a pouty nipple that was begging for his tongue.

“Ohhhh…” Nikki screamed as he licked the nipple then opened his mouth, trying to swallow the succulent mound. She couldn't stifle the moans any longer and didn't even try. In these few minutes, he had given her more pleasure than she’d ever felt with any man in her life.

Angel lifted his head and blew softly on her wet nipple. “Tell me.”

Nikki reached down and brought his head to her other breast so that it could get the same treatment. Angel laughed softly. As he serviced her breast, his hand slowly inched down between her legs, which were moving restlessly from need. She held her breath as he hovered for a moment then slid his fingers between the lips protecting her sex.

“Mmmmm……” Angel's low groan was long and rough. Nikki was creamy and warm, her desire spilling like sweet, thick caramel over his hand. “This answers my question, but I still want to hear you say it. Tell me, Nikki,” he coaxed.

“I want you! I want you, Angel.”

His deep rumble of satisfaction filled the room. Moving to her sensitive nub, he used the tips of his index and middle finger, gently rubbing her clit in a circular motion. Allowing her cream to act as a lubricant, he started off slow then increased his pace, moving faster as she responded to his touch.
