Inside the box sat a useless piece of coal. Laughter erupted, all of this inner turmoil only to find out that her power was useless. She needed millions of years and a mountain for it to matter. Sadness replaced laughter; how was she going to tell Syn he was wrong for putting his trust in her?

Her hand hovered over the top of the box intending to shut it. Instead she reached down and picked it up. How she wished it was what she imagined. Once her hand closed around the coal, her body began to vibrate and a multitude of colors poured from her. Her ears rang with the sound of the colors and her eyes tried to close against the brightness. She couldn’t separate herself from what was happening. The breath in her lungs froze.

Death? She forced her eyes open to see that there was a fountain of color pouring from them. She tilted her head to stare at the spot in the tub.

A vibrant blue beam mixed with hers. Together they pounded at the center of the disturbance. The blue faded becoming a vibrant white. Then it changed to a magnificent gold growing in intensity. She could feel Syn drawing on her, pulling more out of her, focusing her. She wasn’t going to make it. Her body started to shake again.
I should have eaten two steaks,
crossed her mind as she began to fall.

A burst of fire exploded in front of her. Syn threw his body in front of hers protecting her from the fireball that rolled around the bathroom.

“I think you’re going to have to redecorate in here.”

She patted her body making sure she came out in one piece. “I’ve been wanting to start a remodel.” Her voice came out shaky.

Looking up, she acknowledged that her bathroom was totaled but she and Syn were still alive so she would place this in the win column.

‘You sure know how to show a woman a good time.”

“It’s my moto, come with me I’ll make you see fireworks.”

She grinned at him pushing herself to her feet. “You need to get that printed on cards.”

“I’m working on it.”

“Is the house safe now?”

“Not yet.”

Stilling herself, she followed him out the bathroom.

“What next?”

“We need to put a barrier up over the house.”

“How?”

“Take a seat on the bed.” He waited until she was seated before going on. “I need to kiss you.”

She raised an eyebrow but said nothing. He crossed the room standing beside the bed.

“We need to release more of your power and the quickest way is for me to kiss you. It will release the next level of your power.”

“Maybe you just want to kiss me.”

“I definitely want to kiss you.”

His eyes flickered with passion and his mouth curled in a way that made her stomach flutter. Her tongue came out flicking her lips, she wanted this kiss.

He came closer pressing his lips against hers. Her heart pounded against her chest.

He sat on the edge of the bed and pulled her into his arms. His tongue traced the seam of her mouth encouraging her to open. He dipped in as her mouth opened on a sigh. He ran his tongue over hers.

His taste assaulted her, spicy, leaving her with a tingle, she could devour him. His tongue ran over hers, wrapping around it and filling her with a desire she never felt. Her breasts throbbed while her nipples grew harder. She pressed against him trying to massage them.

He deepened the kiss, pulling her into a void of need. A bubble went through her and merged with him. It grew until it was surrounding the house.

Chapter Seven

She was pure ambrosia. All he wanted to do was ease her back and find his way between her thighs. His dragon encouraged him wanting to sink deeply into her sweetness. The desire to inhale her until every delicious scent of her skin was imbedded into his brain pushed him on.

The shell he erected thousands of years ago cracked. It protected him, allowed him to sit back instead of fighting for what he wanted. Now he had someone to fight for and she was presently making mewling sounds against his lips. Her small claws found purchase in his back and her hips moved compulsively against the bed.

His mate wanted him. She was begging to be filled by him, needing to be pumped full of his cock. His dragon encouraged him, demanding they give into their mate’s desire. For the first time in a long time, he and his dragon were on the same page. His cock was rock hard. If only he could find the juncture of her thighs and rub, he was almost sure he could find relief. If her small hands were to hold him and squeeze. His cock jumped and he hissed at the imagined pleasure.

He stood strong, facing his dragon and commanding him into submission. He would not force his mate. They knew what happened when the male forced a female and neither of them wanted to be tied to a mate under those circumstances.

With reluctance he couldn’t hide, he pulled his lips away. Hearing her whine of desolation at the removal of his lips helped to smooth over his bruised heart.

He took his hand and rubbed it gently down her back. “We did it, Alexa, this house has been sealed against any other attacks. As long as we live, there will always be a barrier of protection here.”

She looked up shyly, eye focused on his lips before answering. “Nadia will be ok now?”

“Not only will she be ok, but if she feels like she is being threatened she can come here for protection.”

“I will let her know.” She touched her lips rubbing them.

“Are you ok?”

She nodded once again looking at his lips.

Syn reached down and offered her a hand helping her to stand. “Do you want to take anything with you?”

She looked around the room and shook her head. There really wasn’t much here she wanted. She grabbed a huge duffle bag and tossed some clothes in it along with some toiletries. She walked over to her vanity and picked up a necklace her mother had given her years ago. She slipped it on before turning back to him.

“I’m ready.” He nodded and led her out the room.

*~*~*~*

She squirmed in the car seat for what must have been the millionth time. The seat was made of butter soft leather that gently hugged her making her comfortable, this car screamed luxury. It wasn’t the problem, she was. That wasn’t true either, the kiss was the reason she couldn’t sit still.

All she had to do was close her eyes to feel his hard lips moving across her soft ones. One breath brought her his spicy scent. He should be illegal! How could he smell like the most enticing male to ever live? He smelled like…he smelled like. Damn it, he smelled like sin!

She flounced in the seat again trying to find a way to get past her reactions to him. Her nipples were still hard nubs of need against her bra. Her lips tingled with the desire to touch his again, her clit throbbed, and her pussy was still watering at the thought of having him invade her. Her tongue darted out to wet her lips. When he finished kissing her and backed away, she saw the thickness and shape of his package. It had been more than big enough to satisfy–at least that’s what her research on the net said. That was the kicker, she never…hadn’t…well she was still a virgin.

Not because she hadn’t wanted to. But when you already felt cold and any man coming close to you leached the tiny bit of warmth your body had away, well it put a damper on all physical desire.

Huffing, she turned in her seat again. She refused to look at Syn; if that small smile on his face meant anything, he knew exactly how affected she was by that kiss and he was loving it.

She turned to stare out the window. They left the city behind some time ago in favor of the highway. The highway had given way to little dirt packed roads. This jaunt they were on didn’t seem to have an ending.

“Where are we going?” She gave in and decided to be the first to break the silence.

“There’s a small air strip up ahead where my plane is waiting.”

“You own your own plane? Is it one of those two seater ones?” Already she could feel the panic in her stomach.

“No, it’s a good size plane with its own pilot, plenty of seating and a bed in the back in case we need it.”

Her cheeks were burning. She knew he had clued into just how much that kiss affected her.

“It’s always nice to travel in comfort,” she murmured, dragging her eyes to the window again.

It didn’t take long for the airstrip to come into view. There was a nice sized plane sitting on the tarmac it was painted gold and white.

“Is that your jet?”

He nodded and smiled at her after he pulled the car into the hangar.

She opened the door hesitating before she finally exited the car. She was agreeing to get into a plane with a man she barely knew who believed he was a dragon. It made sense in the heat of battle but now all that was over and only cold reason remained. What if she imagined the whole thing? Maybe he plied her with hallucinogenic drugs. It could happen.

Then there was the fact that she seemed to have magic living within her and she was being chased by an evil creature. All things she wanted to attribute to fantasy and nightmares.

Shaking her head, she turned towards the plane. She wasn’t known as the risk taker. Her life since her fatal birthday had been well ordered and lonely. Now Syn offered her excitement and danger, things she had secretly been craving. Excitement was fine but danger meant she could die, especially with the type of danger that seemed to follow him.

She should turn around, become the responsible Alexa she knew and loved. One who didn’t get wet from a kiss or enjoy the feeling of her nipples hardening. She lengthened her steps, there was no way she was giving this feeling up unless she had to. Of course she wasn’t going to marry the guy, but she should be allowed to live a little.

“Welcome to my plane.”

His put a smile on those sinfully sexy lips as he welcomed her aboard making her want to groan in anticipation of his next kiss. Instead, she gave him a polite smile.

“Thank you. I expect you to get us there in one piece.”

“That’s what I pay George for, he’s an excellent pilot. Here he is now.”

The man in question walked out the cockpit. He was tall with midnight black skin and a killer smile.

“Welcome aboard the Dragon’s Lair, I’m your pilot, George.” He extended his hand to her.

“Hi George. I hear you’re a great pilot. My name is Alexa. Where’s the co-pilot?”

“None needed, Alexa. Syneca is capable of flying this plane if we need an additional set of hands.”

She turned and raised an eyebrow at him. “I feel safer already.”

“Find a seat. I have already done a preflight check and we will be leaving shortly.” He turned around and disappeared into the cockpit.

The inside of the jet looked like a richly appointed living room with plush chairs, carpet, as well as a massive flat screen.

“In case you were wondering, the bed is behind the wall to the rear.”

She saw the wall but didn’t look to closely, afraid he really had a bed in there. He hadn’t lied to her yet as far as she could figure out. So he was really a dragon. A shiver went up her back but was it anticipation or fear? Ignoring her thought, she took a seat in one of the plush chairs sighing as it molded around her body. She put on the discreet seat belt for safety and watched as he sat next to her buckling in.

“George, we’re ready,” Syn spoke after hitting the intercom button.

“Prepare for takeoff. We will now start to taxi down the runway.” George’s voice came out loud and clear.

The plane moved. Alexa gripped the arms of the chair. She knew it was stupid and practically unheard of now a days, but she never flew. Had never been on a plane or even to an airport. Her parents believed if you couldn’t get there by car you weren’t meant to go. Somewhere along the way, she picked up her parents’ philosophy on flying.

Her breath caught in her throat as the plane began to lift off. The need to close her eyes teased her but she more interested in watching Syn watch her. Focusing on him she allowed the smile that lingered on his lips to give her the strength she needed.

She opened her hand and he took it, closing it in his big hand. His heat invaded her body and the smile on his face righted her world. Peace invaded making her feel not only safe but protected. Who was he that with just a touch of his hand he could right her upside down world?

“Nothing to worry about, Alexa. Take a look out the window; we have climbed high enough to be at cruising altitude. Or why don’t you close your eyes and get a little sleep, you’ve had a long day. We’ll have to refuel once before we arrive, but I have plenty to eat and drink on board. And of course, any time you want to try the bed all you have to do is let me know.”

He gave her a teasing smile that made her heart race.

“Thanks, I will just rest here for now.” She closed her eyes and slipped into sleep.

*~*~*~*

A mate, he still couldn’t believe it. She wanted him as well as the rest of the world to believe she was a timid mouse, but she fought with such determination. She was a warrior born and bred. The passion in her overwhelmed him. Touching her was like going up in flames.

This was good because she would need all her wildness, determination, and passion. This fight wasn’t even close to being over. Mutufa wanted her dead and him frozen away forever. His ancient spirit balked at the very idea of succumbing to such a fate.

He was the first brother to find his mate. He leaned back in the seat wondering how his brothers would take the news. Maceo’s mountain was the closest to his; he would know quickly there was no hiding the changes his mate would bring to his mountain. Just the change in the light would give him away. For a moment, sadness sat on his shoulders as thoughts of his race long gone surrounded him.

The expression on his brother’s face would be priceless. His smile faltered when he thought of his frozen brother. He would never meet Alexa. Sighing, he closed his eyes; life had not always been fair to them.

Chapter Eight

Alexa opened her eyes and stretched. Syn was seated beside her with the television on. “How long was I asleep?”

“Not long, roughly seven hours.”
