“That’s Lucy for you,” Rex said, already sick of Billy’s rambling. He looked like a pretty boy and talked as much as a woman.

Billy walked over to his car and rummaged around in the front seat. Retrieving his cell, he said, “I’ll just call her.”

“Go ahead,” Rex told him.

“I was hoping I could catch her before she starts working for the day.”

Luke crossed his arms. “Lucy, working? Psht!”

Billy’s brows gathered. “Lucy’s a workaholic. By the way, are you guys her brothers?”

“Not quite,” Luke replied.

Billy frowned.

That’s right, little fucker. Sit there and wonder.
Rex watched Billy fumble through his contact list. After locating a number, he hit a code and raised the phone to his ear. “Let me see if I can reach her.”

Rex glanced at Luke. Even with a decent tan, his brother’s face was blushed in the center of his cheeks. He was jealous. His temper was flaring.

Billy closed his small pocket model and tossed the device in the car. “No answer.”

“Damn,” Rex said. “That’s our Lucy. She’s too busy to answer her phone.”

Billy’s lips twitched. “Would you mind if I wait for her?”

“Not at all,” Luke said, a big grin stamped on his face. “In fact, we’ll just go ahead and break you in right if you’re planning on moving here. Around these parts, friends and neighbors help one another. Strip off your shirt and climb aboard. We’ll get this hay baled in no time with an extra pair of hands.”

Billy looked a little confused, but he followed the recommendation and hopped on the wagon. Rex snickered under his breath when he heard him ask Luke for a pair of work gloves. This would be a fun afternoon.

When they finished there, he was going to see Lucy. He’d meant to wait until she came looking for him, but plans changed. And it was time to set a few things straight.

Rex and Luke didn’t like outsiders. They damn sure didn’t like out-of-towners coming in and messing with their woman, and Lucy Malone was their woman. After a sleepless night, Rex planned to tell her all about that, too.

Right after he spanked her for luring this kid to
Tennessee
.

Lucy held the phone between her ear and shoulder, opening mail as she paced the length of her grandfather’s elaborate study, a room she’d easily chosen for her office. She reached the decision because of the picture window overlooking the garage bays and where she planned to eventually build a practice track.

She listened to Billy’s wife go on and on about Billy. How Billy wasn’t used to traveling without her, how Billy left a wife and baby back in
Dallas
, how the money was good but it wasn’t good enough to buy a temporary separation. Sometimes Lucy wondered why she took phone calls from the drivers’ wives.

When Melinda, Billy’s demanding twenty-one-year-old wife, finished bitching, she said, “By the way, I haven’t heard from him. Is he there yet?”

Lucy stared at the elegant grandfather clock in the far corner as the timekeeper began with its chimes of time. “I haven’t seen him.”

The weighted pendulum struck in an even beat. Seven strikes resonated throughout the room. “When was the last time you’ve talked to him?” Melinda asked.

“Around ten this morning. He was trying to find the farm and said if he didn’t make it out here, he’d grab a room at a local motel he’d just passed. He was exhausted. You know Billy. He has no sense of direction, and he was frustrated. I’ll probably hear from him around midnight tonight. If you talk to him, tell him to call me. He was supposed to stay here. Some of the other drivers are heading in tomorrow.”

“Stay there?” Melinda screeched.

What was it about some of these women? Most of these racing wives were once groupies. They knew how racing worked. Most of their men were as wild as bucks until they decided to marry, and then from what Lucy had seen, they didn’t just settle down. They provided good lives for their significant others. And they were loyal to a fault.

Case in point? Billy put up with Melinda in spite of her numerous flaws.

Lucy didn’t have time to deal with an insecure woman. If Melinda wanted reassurance, she’d have to find Billy and talk to him for that. “Yes, Melinda. I want all the guys staying here. If he’s in town for the night, that’s fine, but after the others arrive, he’s staying here. The company isn’t picking up the tab for hotel rooms when I have a full staff ready to cater to my drivers and eight bedrooms to house these guys.”

Melinda coughed. “I see. So tonight, uh…will you and Billy be all alone?”

About that time, Rex and Luke entered the study with Billy on their heels. Lucy glared at two smug cowboys and a race car driver who looked like he’d been hit over the head with a caution flag he ignored.

“What the hell?” she asked, searching their eyes for an explanation she most likely wouldn’t receive.

Billy took a deep breath and set his jaw. “I thought you lived next door.”

“Is that Billy?” Melinda asked excitedly.

“Here,” Lucy said, handing off the phone without saying good-bye. She continued to stare at the McDavids while Billy offered one excuse after another for his delayed call home. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?”

“Seeing what kind of stock he’s made of,” Rex replied.

“He ain’t cut out for farm work, Lucy,” Luke told her.

“Farm work?” Lucy asked, studying Billy as he collapsed into an overstuffed chair. His shoes—what appeared to be left of them—were covered in hay and grass. His legs were dirty, his clothes filthy, and his shorts were torn. He looked like he’d been working all day in the hayfields of
Tennessee
.

“He couldn’t get a hold of you,” Luke explained. “We put him on the wagon.”

Her guess was a good one. “You did what?”

“He ain’t too good to work the land, if he’s gonna live here,” Luke drawled, taking a seat on the edge of her paper-infested desk.

“What exactly are you talking about?” Lucy demanded. “Do you know who he is?”

“I don’t care who he is,” Rex replied. “If he’s making a move from the city to the country, he might as well get used to heavy-duty farm work.”

Lucy took a deep breath. In the distance, Billy started that silly baby talk, bantering back and forth with his wife. “I’ve been waiting for him to arrive here all day!”

“Then you should’ve answered his call when he rang you this morning.”

“I was in the blasted shower!”

Luke rubbed his jaw. “Is that where he was supposed to meet you?”

“What?” Lucy asked, shaking her head because she wasn’t sure she’d heard the question correctly.

Rex stalked her. He stood inches in front of her. Sex appeal rolled off the man as easily as hot butter slips over an ear of corn. “You needed to get some work done today, so we kept your guest busy. We didn’t want him to disturb you, so we made sure he got a good workout. We thought he might appreciate life on the farm. I didn’t know he wasn’t used to working for a living. Kid has been spoiled and pampered. He’s used to the easy life.”

“That’s the truth,” Luke added. “I wish you could’ve seen him muckin’ stalls. He whined more than you used to when your granddad made you help us in the stables. We tried our doggone best to work the lazy out of him, but it’ll take more than a day to do that.”

Good God, she was mad. “Do you think Billy is my…” She stopped. But of course they did. She was just about ready to play it for all it was worth, too, but Billy sort of ruined her intentions.

“I have an audience, honey. I know. I miss you, too. You’re my sugar bear with honey. Ah yes. I know where to find that sweet-tasting sugar.”

“Oh for the love of God,” she said, rolling her eyes and storming across the room. “Billy is one of my drivers, you morons. He’s racing in
Nashville
this weekend, and considering the drive he just made from
Dallas
, the hard labor you two had him perform, and that wife of his, I’ll probably have to put him to bed and let him rest until Friday!”

“Your driver?” Luke asked, arching a brow.

“Yes!” Lucy replied, grabbing a handful of papers and shaking them at him. “I own a race team in case you’ve forgotten! I have several drivers coming in this week before we race in
Nashville
. Believe it or not, this is not a good time for your domineering games. This team has a job to do, and with my move, trust me, we don’t have a moment to spare!”

“Is that a fact?” Luke asked, taunting her.

“Yes,” she informed them, glancing at Billy who was leaned back with his eyes closed, the phone still clutched in his hand. “I don’t have time for your stunts, guys. Not right now.”

“Well, ain’t that a damned shame?” Rex asked, grabbing her by the hand and shoving it against his swollen cock.

Jerking away, she glared at him until she saw double, which wasn’t a good thing considering she barely managed one Rex McDavid. “I’m not doing this,” she said, storming toward the door.

Luke caught her around the waist, tossed her over his shoulder, and nodded to Billy in passing. “Make yourself at home. We’ll bring her back tomorrow.”

“Luke McDavid! Put me down!” she exclaimed, slapping her hands against his back.

His large, firm palm came down against her ass. “I will, doll. Just as soon as I get you home, I’ll let you down nice and easy.”

“This is not what I want!”

Rex chuckled. “Have it your way. If you don’t want to take things slow, we’ll give it to you hard and fast, but one way or another, you’re sleeping in our bed tonight. As a matter of fact, you might want to notify your drivers and everyone else you employ. I have a vacant spot in my bed, and I want you to fill it. Not just this evening but for all the nights following this one.”

Luke smacked her bottom again, and she yelped. Then, she held very still, wishing for another wallop across her backside. Good heavens she’d forgotten how much she enjoyed an erotic spanking.

“If you behave, we may let you leave us long enough to see your cars race this Saturday,” Rex told her, pinching the side of her breast. “But that’s only if you play nice, Lucy.”

Chapter Eight

The dining room was bad luck. Luke thought so five years ago, and now, after Lucy walked out the night before, he was convinced. He stormed in the house, took the front stairs two at a time, and hurried down the hallway, heading for the master suite, the room they’d always used for their extracurricular activities.

“Where are you taking me?” she asked, her voice quieter than before. Her fight was gone, and that pleased him to no end.

Then again, he knew Lucy. She never quit unless she crossed a finish line and secured an outright win.

“Rex and I need a shower,” he said, nudging the bedroom door with the toe of his boot. “You can help us get cleaned up.”

She moaned.

“You like the sound of that, don’t you?” Luke asked, moistening his lips.

“I like my independence.”

“If you like your freedom,” Rex informed her, “you’ll earn it.”

She grunted.

“I’m not kidding,” Rex said, winking.

She sighed.

“These sound effects are making me horny,” Luke confessed. “Think we can all practice a few of those together? I make some pretty loud O-noises. You know what those are, don’t ’cha?”

“Let me guess. The sounds you make when you’re getting off?”

“Good guess.”

Rex watched them together. He was quiet, which wasn’t all that unusual, but Luke couldn’t help but worry about Rex. He’d seen the way he’d scared off other women they’d had in their beds, and the dark passion he felt for Lucy was enough to frighten anyone, even practiced submissives embedded in the lifestyle.

Rex wasn’t one for romance and flowers. He took the Domination and submission bit to the extreme at times, insisting he was the real thing, uninterested in role play, quite convinced he could slip into the life and times of a Dom trainer. He’d even mentioned training slaves, rather than submissives, a passing fantasy Luke never saw him fulfill.

Luke rarely argued with him. Rex was a wannabe, but if he had a good time believing he was the Dom other Doms emulated, then what the hell? Why not congratulate him? As far as Luke was concerned, he could crack the whips and bring out the chains.

Then again, Lucy didn’t know the Rex other women had experienced. Luke didn’t want Lucy uncomfortable, and he never wanted her to feel threatened.

On the flipside, Lucy had changed, too. There were years unaccounted for where Luke and Rex weren’t certain of what she did or where she spent her time. Today, there was something in her expression that suggested she realized what they held in store. She was excited, rather than composed, anxious instead of indifferent.

Lucy longed for them. She’d waited for this. He could see it in her eyes. Now, he wanted to feel it in her touch.

* * * *

Luke placed her on the vanity like she was a china doll. Rex entered behind them carrying bath towels and washcloths. She watched them kick off their boots, lose their hats, and slip off their denim jeans and loose-fitting shirts. They each had sunburns. Their cheeks were pink, their shoulders red. Even with Luke’s dark complexion, his skin looked like it earned too much favor from the sun’s rays.
