Chapter 28

Lizzy and Prena waited in line at the bar. It was a busy night. After the situation with Abby, they wanted a night out. They decided to go to
Bloodlust
since a few friends were going to be there and it was familiar to them. While they waited in line, Lizzy looked over and couldn’t believe who she spotted entering the bar. Maurice and Brian. Brian looked a lot different; a paler, perfect version of himself.

“Prena, look. It’s Brian and Maurice.”

“We should call Abby.” Prena pulled out her phone and dialed Abby.

“Abby, it’s Prena. We’re at
Bloodlust
.”

“Prena, what are doing there?” Abby said, groggy from being woken up from her well-deserved sleep.

“Never mind that; we just saw Brian and Maurice walk in, and Brian is a Vampire now. He looks all pale and scary.”

“I will tell Javon. Please stay away from them.”

The line went dead. Prena put her phone away. Lizzy looked very nervous.

“Well, what should we do?” asked Lizzy.

“Let’s just get out of here.”

“I agree. I don't want any part of this.”

“Hello Beautiful,” Brian said to Lizzy as he appeared next to her, using his Vampire speed.

“I’m not interested in whatever you want. You should be in jail, just like the freaky Vampire that made you.”

“Come on, Lizzy; don’t be like that.” Brian looked at Lizzy with sadness.

“Nice to see you again, my dear,” said Maurice to Lizzy as he walked up. “You look quite different vertical.”

Lizzy hissed at Maurice. “We were just leaving.”

“Please, Lizzy, can we talk a minute?” Brian pleaded.

Why did he have to look so freaking cute as a vampire?

“It’s okay, go ahead. I’ll wait here with Maurice.”

Maurice gave Prena a smile that gave her the creeps.

“Fine, but make it quick.” Lizzy took Brian by the hand and they walked over to a table in a corner. Lizzy looked around and noticed that Maurice was buying Prena a drink and she was laughing at something he said.
Oh great, he’s putting the moves on Prena.
“Okay; talk,” Lizzy said to Brian.

“Listen, Lizzy, I know you’re mad at what I did, but I realize I like you and I want to spend time with you. I want another chance. I care about you. Please?”

“I don’t think so. You did some horrible things and now you’re not even human anymore.”

“I just want a chance to show you I'm a good guy. I need Maurice to show me how to be a Vampire; that’s it.”

“I can’t just forget what you did to Abby. She was innocent in all this. All you care about is being an immortal. Don’t you get it? There was nothing wrong with you. Human Brian was the one I liked, not this Vampire you’ve become.”

“I’m sorry, Lizzy. Please don’t give up on me.”

“You gave up on yourself a long time ago. I need to go.” Lizzy stood up and looked over at Brian. It made her sad; he could have been such a great guy but now he was lost. “I’m suddenly not in the mood to dance. Goodbye, Brian.” As she looked back at him, she realized she really wanted to kiss those lovely lips, but she just couldn’t go there.

“I’ll call you,” Brian shouted as Lizzy grabbed Prena and left the club.

***

Brian watched Lizzy leave and felt defeated. Maurice walked over and sat down at the table with Brian.

“So, you fell in love with my meal.” Maurice laughed.

“Don’t call her that!” Brian shouted.

“Easy there, big fella; I was just kidding around. It’s great. You already know she doesn’t mind being bitten.”

“I don’t want to talk about this. I’m hungry.”

“Okay, let’s go get you a blood whore.”

Maurice and Brian walked into the back room of the club where the blood whores serviced the Vampires. There were men and women lounging around sofas, waiting to be chosen.

“See anyone you like?”

“Her,” Brian pointed to a redhead with long straight hair.

“Go sit down. I’ll pay and bring her.” Maurice walked over to the redhead, paid her, and brought her back to Brian.

“Brian, this is Kim. She agreed to feed you.” Kim sat down with Brian. She took his hand and he pulled away immediately.

“Hi, Brian. Maurice told me you’re new. This will be a feed only.” Kim stood up, and Brian followed her to a back room where he could feed in private. Kim sat on a small couch and Brian sat with her. Kim pushed her hair aside to give him access to her neck. She smelled like alcohol and cheap perfume, but he was starving so he didn’t care. He could hear the blood pumping through her veins; he struck quickly, sinking his fangs into her neck. He drank until he no longer felt the hunger. He extracted his fangs and licked the puncture marks, sealing the wound.

“Thank you,” Brian said to Kim as he rushed out of the room.

Then he ran out of the club with Maurice right behind him.

“Are you okay?” asked Maurice.

“That felt really wrong to pay to drink from someone.” Brian looked to the ground as he spoke. He couldn’t help but think about Lizzy and how delicious she would taste.

“You will get used to it.”

“Let’s go home.”

***

“Please reconsider.” Enri pleaded with Mary shortly after arriving home. Mary was grabbing all her clothes and belongings and shoving them into suitcases and bags.

Mary and Enri shared a nice three-bedroom townhouse not too far from the club. He had given her full reign to decorate any way she wanted. In many ways, the house was more hers than his. Her taste was definitely feminine and frilly, her room decorated in various shades of pink—her favorite color.

“I’m sorry, Enri, I just need to go. I will never feel for you what you feel for me. I need to move out so you can move on. If it weren't for me, you might have found a mate already.”

“Please don’t do this. I don’t care if you never feel anything for me. I don't need a mate. I know I screwed up. I should have told you. I just thought you were better off being with me and not knowing.”

“And that’s your problem: you think you know what’s best for me. Well…you don’t!”

Mary had packed three suitcases; she decided she could come back for the rest later. Sally had invited her to move in and she accepted. She needed to get away from Enri and it would give her a chance to spend time with Sally. She missed having friends. “Right now, I’m just angry and need time away. Please give me that.”

“Will you at least continue to work at
Bloodlust
? You’ll need money for your new life.”

Mary thought about the idea; her job was boring but she was good at it and needed money. She couldn’t depend on Sally to support her.

“I will; under one condition: I want to work on the floor twice a week for a few hours. I’m tired of being alone all the time. I want to be out with people.” Mary walked over to her vanity, carefully packing an old painted portrait of her and her mother.

“Are you sure? It can get a little rowdy out there,” Enri said. He worried about her and he thought perhaps it was a mistake. He should have told her about Maurice and let her make up her own mind.

“I’m positive. I’ve always been a social person. I miss it.”

Before being turned, Mary had always enjoyed going out for social gatherings. Since being turned, Enri had isolated her from most social situations; she knew things were different but she needed to get out there and try to adjust.

“I need to go. Sally is waiting downstairs.”

“Can I have a hug goodbye?”

“Yes, of course. I’ll see you at work; it’s not like you won’t ever see me.” Enri gave Mary a crushing hug; then gently gave her a sensual kiss on the cheek. She could feel him becoming aroused against her. She pushed him away and quickly ran downstairs where Sally was waiting.

Sally stood up as soon as she saw Mary. She was running and looked upset.

“What's wrong, Mary?”

“Nothing! I'm just really ready to leave.”

Enri came down the hall after Mary. Sally knew they needed to get out quick, before it became even more awkward than it already was.

“Don’t worry, Enri; I will take care of her, and you can always visit. Mary isn’t a young Vampire. It’s time for her to find her way in the world.”

“Please call me, if you ever need anything,” Enri said to Mary.

“Goodbye, Enri,” Mary said as she left.

***

Enri looked around the empty room. He already felt lonely; he just lost the one person in his life he had loved.

Chapter 29

Abby received a call from Lizzy as Javon walked out of the shower he looked at Abby and knew instantly something was wrong.

“I just got a call. Brian and Maurice are at
Bloodlust
.”

“A call from whom?”

“Lizzy; the girl who rescued me, and who also told me you’re a Vampire.”

“You know?” Javon said uncertainly.

“Yes I know,” Abby replied.

“I will inform the Vampire authorities about Brian and Maurice.”

Abby crawled out of bed. She took a quick shower, which helped in waking her up. She put on a pair of jeans and a white tank top with a brown cardigan. She didn't like hair dryers so she towel dried her hair and put it up in a ponytail. She wore her black-framed glasses. When she came out of the bathroom, Javon was waiting outside the door.

“Ready?” he asked.

Abby nodded and followed him out to the car. She got inside and put on her seatbelt.”Where are we going?”

“Back to my house; I have to deal with this but don’t want you at home alone.”

“Let's go,” Abby said and didn't say another word.

***

Javon nodded and started driving. He drove toward his house, thinking he may need Sally's help if she freaked out. Abby was quiet, but she wasn't screaming and didn't seem scared so he thought that might be a good sign.

An hour later, they arrived at Javon's house, walked inside, and were met by Sally.

“Are you a Vampire, too?” Abby asked.

Sally looked surprised by Abby’s question. “Javon finally told you. Wonderful.”

“Not exactly. I was told by someone else,” Abby said harshly, not bothering to hide her displeasure.

“I'm sorry, Abby. He should have told you. If you have any questions, I can help.”

“Abby, would you like to talk in the library?”

***

Abby nodded and followed Javon to the library. She couldn't help but remember the time they were together; the way he made her feel, like she was the only woman in the world. She decided to avoid the love seat and sit on a single wingback chair on the other side of the room. Javon grabbed another chair and dragged it next to Abby and sat down.

“Please let me start, Abby. I want to apologize for not telling you sooner. I just didn't know how to tell you—”

“That you’re a Vampire. A bloodsucking fiend of the night,” Abby added sharply.

“I'm not like that. Yes, I drink blood, but you know I can go out in daylight.”

“I just don't know what to think. I don't believe in that kind of thing.”

“Could you just keep an open mind? That’s all I ask.”

Abby wanted to run screaming from the room but something kept her there. She had strong feelings for Javon and she didn't think she could just turn them off and move on with her life.

“I don't know why, but I am going to try and believe you,” Abby replied after a moment.

Javon jumped up from his seat and took Abby in his arms and hugged her. Abby was a little reluctant at first, but couldn't help but give in to his embrace. But then Javon pulled away. “Don’t be frightened. I want to show you my teeth.”

Abby watched with wide eyes when his fangs extended. She reached out but pulled back her hand. Javon took her hand and brought it to his mouth. Abby touched his fangs with her fingers; they were sharp but not as scary as she first thought. “Does it hurt; you know when they pop out?”

Javon laughed. “No; it feels good when they come out, like someone giving you a back rub.”

“Are you going to bite me?”

***

Javon looked at Abby’s expression. He couldn't figure out what she was thinking, and all he wanted was to make love to her and show her how much he loved and cherished her. “I will never do anything you don't give me permission to do. I do drink blood and I would love to taste yours, but never without permission.”

Abby hugged Javon tightly. She just couldn't deny her feelings any longer. If she was willing to accept this, it must be love. “Kiss me,” she whispered in his ear.

Javon kissed her neck, taking his time and inhaling her scent. He claimed her lips and kissed her passionately. Abby kissed him back. She felt his fangs as they kissed, but she wasn't frightened. Javon picked Abby up this time; he wanted to make love to her in his bed.
