Her mind seemed to telling her to travel to the astral dimension and ask Isaac; maybe he could provide some answers.

I’ve gone through this sort of spiritual door to another plane or dimension, she thought, so how does this connect with these strange events?

As she parked her car in the empty car park, she found herself looking around to check that there was nobody – or nothing - loitering close by.

It was cold, but at least there was not much wind. Initially the chill of the day made her shiver and she was glad of the extra layers she’d put on and, after a few minutes running, Abbie felt herself beginning to get warmer.

Abbie had decided she would continue running for about 50 minutes on the flat, then turn round and head then back to the car.  This would be a steady long run and if she made it as planned, probably her longest in both time and distance.

The air was clear, and although cold, there was no frost, and the ground was hard underfoot. After a few miles, her running rhythm felt consistent and steady, and her breathing was easy.

Abbie knew that although she had had an out-of-body experience at home, somehow for her at times it seemed easier when running, so she closed her eyes for few strides and asked herself to leave her body.

She was aware of a sense of lightness about the next few strides that she took, almost like running on air. She felt that she was light and free, without any physical boundaries or restraint.

Abbie sensed warmth and a glowing light and, as she opened her eyes into the brightness before her, she knew that all her earthly cares had disappeared in this realm, and nothing could trouble or worry her.

She wanted to see Peter, but she also needed help from Isaac, help to understand and try to make sense of her recent experiences.

She looked around her and within a few moments, a golden shape emerged out of the light.  As it turned round, its form changed and she realised it was Isaac.

He smiled at her, and she felt the comfort of his presence.

“You have questions Abbie, I can sense it.  What concerns you?”

“All of it”, she began. “Being here is wonderful, safe with no cares, but in the real world, I’m frantic, I’m obsessed with all this, seeing Peter, to the extent where nothing else matters; it takes over my life and I just can’t handle these two separate things”.

“Maybe you are not meant to. After all, you are living in two different dimensions of time and space and life”, replied Isaac.

“And also weird stuff happens; down there it scares me, but here it fades into insignificance”.

“What sort of things have happened?” he asked, but before she could reply, another bright shining entity appeared alongside Isaac and it became recognisable to Abbie as Sarah.

“We both want to help you,” she said. “Tell us your concerns”.

“It sounds so stupid, but for a while I kept thinking I was seeing things out of the corner of my eye, then recently yesterday I
did
see something and it was real, it really was, in my house”.

“What did you see exactly?” Isaac asked.

“It was some sort of creature, almost human, a type of goblin; it so was frightening” she replied, looking at them both and seeking reassurance.

Isaac’s expression did not change.

“Abbie” he said, “you are a very beautiful woman. You have entered a spiritual dimension that was previously unknown to you and yes, you are safe here, nothing can harm you.  But you need to understand that there are both good and bad entities within the spiritual realms of existence, and some of them would seek to trouble you, manipulate and confuse you. Understand Abbie, these things are demons; they are indeed very real and some have the capacity to travel beyond this spiritual realm and reveal themselves to others”.

Abbie shuddered as Isaac continued.

“It is most likely that one of these demons has seen you coming here, and as it is not used to seeing such physical, worldly beauty, has developed a desire for you. You have to understand that although you come here in spirit, leaving your physical body behind, you still appear very different to spirits that have fully entered this realm. They can sense your humanity and to them that is a very beautiful and desirable thing.  They also can sense any vulnerability, and to them that makes you an easy target”.

“So what do I do?”

Sarah touched Abbie’s arm. “Ignore them, deny them the attention they seek, and in time you will be free of them”.

Them
?  So there’s more than one?” Abbie asked.

Sarah cast a glance at Isaac before replying: “Maybe, maybe not, we cannot tell. If one has revealed itself to you it is likely getting stronger.  According to what we know, for some reason these demons gain strength at certain times of the year and are more then more active, so if that is the case its time will pass eventually”.

“Can it harm me at all?”

“Most demons generally only cause mental and emotional turmoil, but then again, you described that is how you’re feeling didn’t you?”

“Yes I did, it’s awful.  So that could all be caused by one of these creatures?”

“Most definitely” said Sarah. “It is unusual for a demon to harm someone from another dimension; there is no reason why it would do that if it holds you in awe and desires you .Understand that they are very old creatures, older than the earth itself, and in these spiritual realms, they have always existed. They are all good entities that have fallen; they found deceptions and wickedness a more attractive existence”.

“So you mean like the devil, they are fallen angels?”

“Yes in a way, you’re right”.

“So then that means that does God exist?” enquired Abbie

“That is something only you can answer for yourself” said Isaac.

“Every man and woman has to decide for themselves, but you are one of the privileged who have been able to see beyond their physical world and into the spiritual dimension. If you experience those presences again, either just feeling them or if they reappear and show themselves to you, then you can speak to them; they are simple creatures and they will respond to you, if you ask what they want or who they are. They have some power but are generally so absorbed in seeking pleasure for their own satisfaction but they cannot control you. So be brave and strong Abbie, you will find a way through this.” said Sarah.

“Now go and find your love, Peter”.

The path on which Abbie was running was deserted apart from her. She returned to her consciousness and, looking at her watch, saw that she had as planned been running for just over 50 minutes. She slowed and walked for a few paces and then turned around, heading back to her car.  She was breathing steadily and easily, so she regained her running rhythm and again closed her eyes and focused on returning to Peter. Within a few moments, she was again in his arms, enjoying the warmth and strength of his embraces.

Abbie explained her concerns and recent fears about what had happened to her, her odd experiences, and she found being with him a great source of emotional comfort.  With him she felt secure, protected and safe.  She also felt that she was becoming more accepting of the fact that, once she returned to her physical body, he was unable to be there for her.

But in the space that they now occupied together, nothing mattered more than this moment, than each other. Abbie kissed Peter, touched him and tasted him, and she was able to sense his breath on her and it felt familiar and comforting. She loved the way she felt deep inside when she was with him.  Her desire for him was increasing in passion and intensity; she wanted him now and needed him desperately, and she felt as if her whole being was aroused for him. The meeting of their spirits was so full of pleasure and wonderful sensations that Abbie moaned with joy.

With Peter below her, she held on to him tightly, realising she never wanted to open her arms to let him go or leave him ever again, she loved him so much.

She loved him too much.

A few hundred yards from where she had parked her car, she returned to her physical self, immediately becoming aware of the coldness of the air on her face, her breath steaming upwards in clouds of vapour. She slowed to a walk and took in her surroundings.

Her immediate thought was that if she could learn to balance this twin existence then everything would be all right. It was all about learning how, she thought to herself.

She was very thirsty and drank eagerly from her water bottle, the cool fluid quenching her thirst.

For a few minutes she stretched her muscles to help prevent stiffness. Abbie was suddenly tired and she checked her watch, realising she had been running for very nearly two hours, her longest yet.

                            ………………………………………………………….

On the drive home Abbie recalled what Isaac and Sarah had said to her, her mind playing with the thoughts that maybe she was the innocent victim of some sort of demonic crush.  But then was she really a victim at all? She had in fact entered spiritual territory, although it had initially happened without her consent, so she had just been a passenger in this process, surely not a victim?

She brought to mind the image of the creature that she had seen in the bathroom mirror -  the shape of the limbs, the lifeless eyes, the gnarled and dripping organ between its legs - and now it seemed to no longer hold any fear for her.

She remembered that Isaac had said they were simple creatures focused on their own satisfaction, and she smiled to herself as she thought of the little guy jerking himself off at the sight of her nakedness.

Later that day Abbie visited her mum; Rose was very glad to see her daughter and greeted her with a hug and kisses. To Rose it seemed a long time since Abbie had visited, or was that just her imagination?

Over hot tea and toasted teacakes they talked about nothing in particular.

Then suddenly Abbie was surprised at the words that came almost automatically out of her mouth.

“Mum, I’ve heard him, I’ve seen him, I’ve seen my Peter!” Rose, looking at her over the top of her teacup, only smiled. Abbie was immediately expecting a different response, but it never came.

“I’m not surprised” Rose said, “when you love someone so much, I’m sure the emotions transcend the known physical boundaries; I saw your father, clear as anything, as real as anything, I remember it so clearly as though it was less than an hour ago”.

‘Really? Please tell me more mum, you’ve never mentioned that before”.

“No I haven’t. I guess it’s something you only admit to when the time seems right, and somehow, for some reason, I think that time is now. I don’t fully understand it, but after he died I felt that he was still in the house, as though he was lingering for some reason, and that went on for several weeks after the funeral. I also used to dream about him a lot; it was always when we were young, and the intensity in the dreams always amazed me. In them we were youthful, without cares, as indeed we had been at that age”.

Abbie listened intensely.

“The dreams never upset me; often when I woke I was sad to realise that I was alone again, but at the same time the dreams brought me a sense of joy. In some way, very privately, Eric, your father and my husband was still alive to me. I guess in hindsight it helped me recover from the shock and grief of it all.

Then one day I dreamt we were together, and your father told me he would not be able to see me again; he said the time had come for him to move on. In the dream, it didn’t make me sad either, and the last thing he said to me was that he would wait for me for when it was my turn”.

Tears were welling up in Abbie’s eyes, and she didn’t try to stop them.

Rose continued, “I remember that when I woke up I felt that I understood that he had come to me in my dream to be able to tell what he need to, that he was moving on. So I never expected to dream of him again, and I haven’t, not once since that time”.

“Really mum”, said Abbie, “I don’t know what to say”.

“But that’s not all.  The next day after that last dream, I went to the shops to get a few things, and I remember the shops seemed really busy, people everywhere. I was walking along and all of a sudden, I heard Eric call my name, clear as anything: “Rose” he shouted, and so I stopped and turned towards the direction from which I’d heard his voice. I turned to my right and there he was, a few feet away, standing still amongst the people who were walking past him. I looked at him and our eyes met, and he raised his hand in greeting.  We were so close to each other, only yards apart. He waved as though saying goodbye, a farewell; then some people walked past in front of me and my view of him was blocked.  It happened in a moment but then, when I could see the road again, he was already gone”.

Abbie sat with the tears streaming down her face, but today they were tears of joy that her mum had also known such intense love.

Then Rose looked at Abbie and said, “Tell me your story, I’d love to hear it. Seeing them helps you heal, I’m convinced of it”.
