Chapter 1

“I’m close to the skate park. Are you near it?”

They should have met somewhere else and come to the beach together. Trying to connect via phone was getting ridiculous.

Kat had been held up on her way over and so Lillah had staked out a spot for them before it got too crowded. Now they couldn’t find each other among all the people out on a sunny Saturday morning.

“I’m coming up to it. Stand up so I can see you.”

“I will. Walk just past it, I’m right there.”

Dropping her phone into her beach bag, Lillah stood up and shielded her eyes against the brightness, trying to spot her friend. To her relief, Kat appeared a couple minutes later.

“Finally,” Lillah said as they hugged hello. “I didn’t think you were going to make it. Why’d you want to come to Venice, anyway?”

“Sorry, traffic sucked badly. I left just a little late and you know how it goes. And the restaurant where we’re meeting Dan isn’t far from here.” Kat looked her over. “Hey. You’re looking good. Really good. How are you so tanned?”

Lillah shrugged, settling back down on her beach towel. “I’ve been getting outside more than usual lately.”

“Is that right? That would be a big change for you.”

“I’ve been spending a little less time at work.” It wasn’t exactly the whole truth. Her great tan had come from spending most of her weekends at Ty and Carson’s place. When the three of them weren’t in bed, they were hanging out by the pool. It hadn’t taken too long for Lillah to get comfortable sunbathing naked like the guys did.

“Less time at work for you usually means more trips to the gym or doing yoga.” Kat looked her friend over. “And there’s something else that’s different about you. Are you seeing someone?”

“What makes you say that?” Lillah hadn’t planned on telling Kat about Ty. Or Carson.

“Oh, I can tell. You are seeing someone.” Kat took off her sunglasses and stared at Lillah. “Who is he? Details. I want details.”

Lillah sighed. Of course she would have told her best friend eventually. But she had been waiting to see where things were going first. Or even if they were going to go somewhere. She wanted more with the two guys, sure, but she couldn’t quite work out exactly what that was, or if they felt the same way as she did. She wouldn’t regret it if this turned out to be just a sexual relationship, not for a hot minute. But if it could somehow turn into more…that would be perfect.

“Okay. Remember last time you and I went to the beach? The two guys next to us that you introduced us to, and

I told you I hung out with one of them after you left?”

Kat pulled two bottles of water out of her bag, offering one to Lillah. “Of course. The gay guys?”

Lillah twisted the cap off her bottle. “They’re not gay. They’re bi.”

“Two bi guys? Interesting.” Kat put her shades back on and stretched out onto her stomach. “You mean you’re seeing one of them? Which one? They’re both so damn hot.”

“No.” Lillah rearranged herself so her head was right by Kat’s. This was not a conversation she wanted to be overheard.

“I’m seeing both of them,” she said quietly. ‘Seeing’ might be stretching it, but oh well. It just sounded better than ‘sleeping with’.

“What do you mean? You’re juggling two guys? I didn’t know you had it in you.” Kat’s eyes were wider than Lillah had ever seen them. “Good for you! I can’t think of a better way of getting past your ex than to date two hotties like those guys.”

“Kat, I’m not juggling them. I’m seeing both of them, and they’re involved with each other. They live together. We’re all…together.”

“Wait a minute. Are you saying that you’re sleeping with both of them? At the same time?” The volume of Kat’s voice made Lillah cringe.

“Yes,” she murmured. “And I’d love it if the whole beach didn’t know about it.”

Kat rolled her eyes, but she did lower her voice. “You’re kidding, right?”

“I’m serious. We’re involved, all three of us.”

“I can’t believe it. Just how do you go from being married to a guy like Richard to doing two hot guys at the same time? Two guys that are also sleeping with each other?”

“Well, I have a lot of lost time to make up for.” Lillah grinned at her surprised friend.

“I won’t argue with that. But…wow.”

“I know, right?” Neither one of them had to say it. They both knew it was far more likely that Kat would do something like this than Lillah.

“I can’t really explain it. It’s not something I’ve ever thought about before. I didn’t know it was even possible. But it just feels right, you know, both of them together. And now I don’t think being with just one of them would be possible.”

Kat sat up. “Wait a minute. Is this just a sex thing, or are you actually dating them?”

“Kind of both. It’s not just sex.”

“You go out with them too? Together?”

“We go out sometimes. Usually me with one of them. They’re not always free at the same time.” Lillah lowered her voice again. “And when they both are, we’d rather spend our time doing other things.”

“If I had the chance to be with those guys, I’d never leave their bed,” Kat agreed. “I guess I just don’t understand how you can be having a relationship with the two of them at once. Is that what it is? A relationship?”

“I don’t think it can be labelled.” Lillah pulled her hair back, tying it up in a loose ponytail before settling down again.

“Guess not. I’m not trying to judge you. Just understand. Do you see it going somewhere? Because I’ve never known you to have a casual sex thing before.”

It was a question Lillah had been asking herself a lot lately. So far, she hadn’t really come up with a clear answer.

“I want it to keep going like it’s going. Everything’s perfect the way it is.”

“Perfect, huh? Isn’t that what you said when you met Richard?”

Lillah made a face. “I was clearly delusional back then. This is nothing like being with him. It’s about a thousand times better, in every way. For one thing, the sex is off the charts.”

“No doubt. Do they get it on with each other while you’re there too?”

“Oh, yeah. Every single time.”

Kat turned over onto her side so she was facing Lillah. “That is so damn hot. Two sexy, masculine guys having fun with each other.”

“Oh, they’re pretty amazing together. Sexy doesn’t even come close to describing them. It’s even better than you imagine it’s going to be once it’s happening right in front of you.”

“Stop,” Kat groaned. “You know how much I like that idea. I can’t talk about it anymore. You’re still going to come and meet Dan tonight, aren’t you?”

“Of course. Why wouldn’t I?”

“No reason, except that you have two hotties you could be with. Do you want to invite your boyfriends along?”

“No,” Lillah said, too quickly. Kat raised an eyebrow at her.

“Why not? It’s just dinner.”

“Sure, but I’m not ready for that yet.”

“Still in that little bubble where it’s all about the two of you? Or should I say, the three of you?”

Lillah nodded. “Yeah, we’re still there.”

Kat dug around in her bag and pulled out a handful of magazines, setting them down on her towel. “Fair enough. But now I’m dying to meet them.”

“You’ve met them already, you know.”

“That was ages ago, and for about two seconds. Plus, they were just two random beach guys then. Now, they’re your lovers.”

Lillah winced. “Terrible word. True, but terrible.”

“I think it’s a sexy word. And speaking of sexy, check out this dress.” Kat flipped through one of her magazines until she found what she was looking for and handed it over to Lillah. “What do you think?”

“That would be perfect for you.”

“I found one in here for you, too. Hang on.”

Lillah’s thoughts went elsewhere while Kat found the next dress. Should she introduce Ty and Carson to Kat? That would be normal, if they were actually in a relationship. How come it all seemed so simple when she was with them, but so complicated when she tried to pin down just what was going on between them?

Once again she thought about bringing it up directly with the guys. But a conversation like that, happening too soon, could derail everything. Maybe she should just keep on enjoying things the way they were instead of trying to define it all.

Of course, that was easier said than done.

She and Kat stayed on the beach for the whole afternoon, catching up with everything that was going on in each other’s lives. Between work and spending time with Ty and Carson, Lillah hadn’t seen her best friend as often as usual. Being with Kat again now made her realize how much she missed her when they didn’t see each other enough.

“What time are we meeting Dan? And are you sure I don’t need to go home and change?” Lillah asked her friend when the sun was getting lower in the sky.

“Nah. The place is super casual. And it’s so close, it would be a huge waste of time to go home and come back again.” Kat checked the time. “We should probably get going now, though.”

Chapter 2

Dan was pretty much what Lillah had expected he would be, good-looking and friendly. He was easy to talk to, and obviously into Kat.

“So. What do you think?” Kat wanted to know as soon as Dan excused himself.

Lillah sat back in her chair. “I think I’m surprised that you care what I think about a guy you’re seeing. You really like him, don’t you?”

“Maybe.” When Kat wouldn’t meet her eye, Lillah smirked.

“Let’s see. He’s already lasted longer than any of the others. You’ve introduced me to him. And you want to know what I think. Could this be love?”

“I don’t do love,” Kat said, but Lillah could have sworn she saw a slight blush creeping up in her friend’s cheeks. Before she could call her out on it, Lillah spotted Dan heading back towards them.

“He seems really nice. I like him,” she said quickly. “I’m glad we met.”

Dan leaned down to give Kat a kiss before he took his seat.

Lillah picked up her bag. “I have to get going. Dan, great to meet you.”

Kat stood up to give Lillah a hug. “Call me tomorrow,” she said into her ear.

Watching Kat with Dan all evening had made Lillah even more eager to get to Ty and Carson’s place. It was unexpected, seeing Kat so happy to be with someone. She was not one for boyfriends or lengthy relationships. Maybe Dan was the one for her.

Pulling up to the house, all of her questions about her own relationship status disappeared. What they had now was great.
