Passionately, he moved faster. She gripped his back as he picked up the pace. Scarlett arched her back as he moved she felt like she was losing her mind. She loved the way he felt. She knew he was tailor made to be her better half. If she had any doubts Christian was the one, the moment he got inside her all of them subsided.

Scarlett tried to muffle her screams as Christian flipped her over and began again. The harder he pushed the more pleasure she felt and soon the louder she screamed begging him to make her feel good. She wanted him more and more and the deeper he went the more she needed him. She was no longer able to contain her screaming his name leaving her lips made him grip her waist. Seconds turned to minutes as they explored and worked each other raw. And as she felt she was about to explode and she couldn’t hold it in any longer it seemed they erupted at the same time.

Christian took a deep breath and went limp. Scarlett could only caress his head for she didn’t have the words just then just a smile on her face. After a moment or two he propped himself up on the pillows and looked at her.

“Are you ok?”

“That was incredible.”

“You don’t have to tell me.”

Scarlett leaned over and lay on his chest.

“Thank you.”

“For what?”

“Everything.”

She kissed him again and continued to lay on his chest as they hummed to the song laughing. He held her close and they stayed in that position for a long while.

Chapter 9

For a reason…

Scarlett sat at her desk. She had a few more papers to file before she went to lunch. As she filed away the last file, her phone rang.

“Hello.”

“I don’t have long so spill the beans did you and Christian have sex this weekend?”

“Jayla?”

“Yeah so tell me?”

“Yeah we did.”

“Well how was it?”

“Incredible. I almost lost my mind.”

“Really?”

“Yes. I am in love girl. And he told me he loved me.”

“I am so happy for you.”

“He's it for me.”

“I knew you guys just needed a push.”

“Thank you.”

“Hey I have to go. We have to do lunch call me later ok. Bye.”

”Ok bye.”

Scarlett hung up and the phone rang again.

“Jay do some work.”

“Hey beautiful.”

“Christian?”

“How are you?”

“I'm fine just finishing up here so I can leave.”

“Oh well look I am running really late. I am on site at one of the apartment buildings and there's a leak we can’t locate.”

“Its fine you’re running late…I cancelled all your appointments today anyways so you’re good.”

“Yeah well a friend of the family is coming today at 2:15 and I am not sure I will be back on time. Could you be there to keep him company until I get there?”

“But Christian you said I could leave early. I need to be at Angel's school at 2:55.”

“And you will make it. I won’t be but five ten at the most minutes late.”

“Ok I will be here.”

“Thank you…you’re a life saver.”

“Yeah tell me what else is new.”

“I love you.”

“I love you too.”

“I know bye.”

Scarlett laughed as she hung up. Ten minutes later, she looked at the clock. It was 2:22. His friend was running late too. Scarlett went into Christian’s office as she did whenever she didn’t get a lunch and grabbed a bag of chips then looked in the mini fridge she recently stocked and grabbed a pop.

She sat the snacks on Christian’s desk when she noticed some of his files were on the floor. She sat in his chair and began to pick them up. Shane walked into the room.

“Christian didn’t see your assistant or shall we say your hit it girl or is she the get it girl anyways I decided to just walk in.”

“What?”

Scarlett stood up and saw Shane. Shane stepped back.

“Scarlett?”

“Shane what are you doing here?”

“What are you doing here?”

“I work here this is my job.”

“Wow it is a small world.”

“You still haven’t answered what you are doing here?”

“Wait a minute you’re Christian Waters assistant?”

“How do you know Christian?”

“We go way back. Been friends for years.”

“You’re the friend of the family?”

“I guess so.”

“Wait no that doesn’t make any sense I would have known if you and him were friends.”

“Well since your mom was sick we didn't have a wedding we agreed to wait until we were married for five years to have one.”

“Yeah but if he was your friend why didn't I meet him?”

“When would you have met him? On my trips up here, you were with your mom.  And when he came to visit me you were with your mom.”

“Ok I get it.”

“You know you are looking really good.”

“Thanks Shane…you look nice too.”

“Just nice?”

“You know you look good.”

“Wow I just can’t believe I am looking at Scarlett Bryant.”

“Shane.”

“Sorry I know you went back to Hale. So can I get a hug?”

“I guess.”

Scarlett hugged Shane as Christian walked thru the door.

“Am I interrupting something?”

They pulled apart and Shane went to Christian.

“Christian what's up boy? Long time.”

“Yeah…how do you two know each other?”

“Shane is my ex I was telling you about.”

Christians jaw dropped. “What? Wait your ex-husband?”

“Yep.”

“You're telling me that Scarlett is your ex-wife. The one you cheated on.”

“Yeah. But that is water under the bridge right Scarlett?”

Shane placed his hand onto Scarlett’s shoulder and she smile.

“Yeah it is.”

The phone rang and Christian picked it up.

“Waters Empire…um yes one second. Scarlett its Angel’s school.”

“Hello…what…oh my God I will be there. Yes ok thank you.”

“Scarlett what's wrong?”

“Angel was hit by a car. I got to go.”

Scarlett ran out the office and the guys followed her.

“She is moving like super-fast.”

As they enter the parking lot Scarlett grabbed her purse for keys. They dropped to the ground and she screamed.

“Dammit.”

Christian picked them up. “Scarlett how about you get into my car I will drive you. Shane can drive your car.”

“I can drive.”

“Scarlett your hands are shaking, it's going to be ok.”

She closed her eyes then looked at Shane sighed and nodded.

“She’s at children’s general.”

She walked with Christian to his car as Shane got into hers and they headed for the hospital. Devon and Maggie are already there.

“Devon how did you guys get here?”

“We walked over to the middle school to hitch a ride with you.”

As tears ran down her face she hugged them both. “What happened to her?”

Devon shrugged. “I don’t know. She was waiting for you when some drunken fool drove onto the sidewalk and hit her and one of her friends. When we got there, they were loading her up so we hitched a ride.”

As they are talking Helen walks in with two paramedics rolling Genie in. Scarlett spotted them first and felt her knees grow weak.

“Mom…Mrs. Waters what happened to her?”

“She’s passed out. They tried to revive her but needed to bring her here.”

“What? What does that mean?”

“It just means she's coming here for test. Your mom will be fine. Wait why are you guys here? Did shrines call you?”

Scarlett ran her trembling fingers through her ponytail. “Angel was hit by a drunk driver…I think I’m going to lose my mind here.”

Her legs finally gave way and she fell backwards, Shane and Christian caught her. Helen walked closer to her and held her hand.

“Scarlett everything is going to be fine ok…and I'm sure your mother wouldn’t want you to fuss over her…she would want you to take care of Angel then check on her.”

“Excuse me I am looking for the mother of Angel Hale.”

Scarlett stood forward trying to regain her balance.

“I am her mother. Can you tell me what is going on?”

“Well your daughter is stabilized. I don’t know how much you know about the accident but apparently, she was standing on the curb with another young lady when a car came up and hit them. The driver was very drunk and has been arrested. If you want to see her you can follow me.”

“Scar go ahead we will go with mom.”

Scarlett followed the Doctor and Devon and Maggie walked with their mother. Christian looked at his mom.

“Is Mrs. Hale going to be ok?”

“They don’t think so son.”

“Oh man I better call Jay…Scarlett is going to need her.”

Helen looked at Shane.

“Shane!”

“Hi Mama Helen how are you?”

“I'm fine. So glad you came up here.”

“So mom you know that wonderful woman he lost three years ago…well was Scarlett.”

“I know Christian. I still have the Wedding picture Shane sent us of him and her. It says on the back Shane and Scarlett Bryant.”

“I can’t believe Angel was hit by a car.”

Helen looked back at Christian. “I know but once Jay gets here you can go back to the office or hang with Shane.”

“Mom I am not going anywhere I need to be here for her.”

“Why are you acting like you guys are a couple?”

Christian shook his head as his voice raised. “Because we are dating, and have been since the ball.”

Shane stepped back.

“What?”

Helen moved closer to him.

“Christian you didn’t. I told you not to date her.”

“Mom please don’t start ok.”

Scarlett walked towards them with tears in her eyes.

“Angel is going to be all right she has a broken leg and some minor bruising they sedated her when they brought her in because she was screaming hysterically so she’s sleep. But um my mom…she’s not doing so well. I can’t be at both places so Christian I was wondering if it wasn’t any trouble.”

“Scarlett consider it done, I will help you in any way I can.”

“Devon is with her now if you could just check on them I should get back to Angel and Maggie.”

Shane walked closer to her.

“You’re dating my best friend?”

“Shane that is something I really don’t feel like talking about right now.”

“We were married…You can’t be dating my friend.”

“Shane I'm sorry it’s just.”

“It's just what Scarlett!” he yelled as he moved closer to her. Christian stood between them.

“Hey Shane calm that down… don’t yell at her like that…you do not know what’s going on here?”

“What I know is this is real foul.”

Scarlett’s face lifted as tears freely fell from her eyes.

“You want to talk about foul Shane? Really? You cheated on me with your ex-girlfriend because I was taking care of my mother and my daughter. You were upset because I wouldn’t let you adopt Angel well I couldn’t.”

She looked away. She had to say out loud what was meant to be her little secret but everyone knew. She told this story many times but never really admitted that she was raped by Angel’s dad. She exhaled.

“I couldn’t let you adopt her because I was still getting over being raped by her father. I was still hurt by what my father did to me and Danger did to me. I wanted you to be her father because at least she could have been proud of you. When she asks about him, I tell her he’s dead. Only Devon knows the truth. To Maggie and Angel, that’s their truth. I couldn’t face it after all those years and now I can. But I am not sorry for trying to protect myself and her. Now as for the Christian thing, I told you I didn't even know you and he were friends. And it's not my fault I mean who has a best friend your ex-wife didn't even know about it. Now that you have embarrassed me and made me to feel just a little bit more stupid along with all the other emotions I have I need to go check on Angel.”

“Scarlett.”

Shane grabbed her hand but she pulled away.

“Shane just don't you have done enough.”

Scarlett walked away and Christian saw red. He exhaled deeply then looked to his mom.

“Mom can you go check on Devon and Mrs. Hale for me please.”

“Christian I don't think.”

“Mom please just do this for me.”

Helen sighed as she walked away. Shane looked at Christian.

“Christian, how can you stand there and justify taking my wife away?”

“I took your wife away? First of all, you guys have been apart for what three years? You messed that up. When you told me she left you I told you that you lost a good woman.”

“I never wanted any of this.”

Shane looked at the double doors. “You know that was the first time I can ever remember her admitting that she was raped by Angel’s father. She never wanted to accept that she was betrayed by her father and Angel was as well.”

“She hasn’t since I have known her.”

Shane looked at Christian and frowned.

“How serious is it Christian?”

“I have fallen for her.”

“What do you mean fallen for her?”

“I mean I love her.”

Scarlett walked into the room and placed the flowers on the side table. She rearranged the daisies and looked over to her mother. She grabbed her mother’s hand and sat next to her. Scarlett felt an overwhelming urge to cry.

“Oh mom. I don't know what I am supposed to do without you. I have counted on you for everything. You have always been there for me, what am I supposed to do now?”
