She snuggled into her husband’s arms. They’d get to the supper table sooner if he’d let her walk, but he enjoyed showing his strength, and she enjoyed his being strong.

Together she and Jeremiah had seen many changes. They’d fulfilled their obligations, had completed their duties. Now their first priority was to look after the promises they’d made to each other. There’d be nothing to hide, nothing from the past to mar their present happiness or their future.

They had survived a brutal era, but with each passing season their war-torn hearts continued to mend. They wouldn’t forget, but like the rest of their country, they chose to travel forward.
