“Mine,” he repeated. “And make no mistake. You will be cared for better than you ever dreamed possible.”

She smiled and caressed his cheek with a shaking hand. “I believe you.”

He frowned. “You do like horses and cattle, right?”

She burst out laughing. She just couldn’t help it. “I do, but if I didn’t I could learn very fast.”

He lifted her from the cross and carried her to the big easy chair in the corner. First he carefully removed the complicated arrangement of the rope. Then he fetched her water from the little fridge and a thick comforter from the drawer in the armoire. Holding her on his lap, with the quilt around her, he massaged her arms and legs. When he was apparently satisfied she was back to herself, that he had given her proper aftercare, he set her down while he quickly dressed.

“I’m taking you home with me,” he told her. Told, not asked. “I’ll send one of the hands to get your car tomorrow.”

“If I say you’re taking a lot for granted,” she teased, “would you give me another punishment?”

He stopped in the process of buttoning his shirt and grinned at her.

“You might turn out to be more of a handful than I expected.”

“Could be.”

She started to push herself out of the chair but he swooped in and gathered her up again.

“I’ll have Reulas get your purse and whatever from the dressing room. He’ll bring the stuff straight to the truck.”

Which was exactly what happened. The Dungeon Master had her things to them in just a few minutes. When he handed them to Garrett he had a big shit-eating grin on his face.

“Damn, it’s hard being right all the time,” he joked. “It’s a terrible burden to bear.”

“But you’ll manage,” Garrett told him. “Right?”

Reulas nodded.

Garrett opened the driver’s door then turned to look at the other man. “Thank you for this.”

“My pleasure.”

“No.” Garrett gave him a slow smile. “I actually think it was all mine”
