“I realize that now.” She sighed and shook her head. “I’m tired of running. I was tired of it before, but now, with a baby, I just can’t keep doing it, Laszlo. I just want him to leave me alone.”
He watched as more tears ran down her face. There was no way he was going to let her run again—not when she was carrying his child. But more than that, Laszlo loved her and he wanted a life with her. “Where are the pictures and the videos now?”
“The stuff I have on him is well hidden. I have a safety deposit box at Remsen National Bank where the originals are kept. I have copies in a lockbox that is buried in my backyard. I also sent a copy to my lawyer with strict instructions not to open them unless I was dead.”
Laszlo remained silent for several moments. “If you give them back, he’ll leave you alone, right?”
“No. I mean, I don’t think so. He told me he’d spare my brother’s life in exchange for the pictures, but the only way he’d let me live is if I went back to him.”
“Over my dead body!” Laszlo didn’t mean to shout, but there was no fucking way he was going to let Jason get his hands on Trinity. He stood and walked to the window.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered.
“No, I’m sorry, love.” He went back to her and sat down. “I didn’t mean to yell. I will fix this, Trinity.”
“How?”
He sighed. “Do you trust me?” They hadn’t known each other very long and he knew that what he was about to ask would be hard for her, but it was the only way.
“Yes.”
“I need you to give me the pictures.”
She looked at him with sheer terror. “Why?”
“I told you I’d fix this, Trinity and I will, but I need the pictures so I can.” He caressed her cheek. The sight of her bruised face enraged him to the point that he knew he’d kill the bastard if that’s what he had to do to keep her safe. Nobody fucked with Laszlo Cstary or his family.
“Ouch,” Trinity said when she tried to stretch her arms. She had a couple of fractured ribs and they really hurt. Laszlo had brought her home last night…home, his house. It was surreal to call this place her home. But after soaking in his extra-large bathtub for an hour and then curling up under the soft, warm, fluffy blankets on his bed—she could get used to living here. And the fact that he’d held her all night and was so attentive each time she tried to move and whimpered in pain really helped to make her feel more comfortable. God she really hoped Laszlo could make Jason go away, because if he couldn’t, she’d have no choice but to run again. And this time, she would go so far off the radar no one would ever find her.
“Good morning, beautiful,” Laszlo said as he entered the room. “How’re you feeling?”
She smiled. “Sore, but I definitely slept better here than I did in that hospital room.”
He sat on the edge of the bed and kissed her softly. “Well, you just relax today and don’t worry about anything. I’ve hired a nurse to check in on you and a maid to bring you meals.”
Trinity was touched that he’d done all of that for her. No one had ever cared enough to take care of her like he was. She felt the familiar sting of tears but she refused to cry again.
What will I do if this mess with Jason isn’t resolved? I don’t want to live without Laszlo. I love him.
Whoa. That was a shocking thought. It was one she’d never allowed herself to think before. But now that she had, now that she admitted it to herself, she felt somehow liberated. It also scared her.
“I’ve got some good news.” He smiled. “You’re brother has been located and he’s fine.”
“He is?”
“Yeah.” Laszlo licked his lips, and her body, despite being sore and practically immobile, buzzed to life in that familiar way it did every time she was around him. “I’m going to have my guys keep an eye on him until I have a chance to speak to Congressman Ross.”
Trinity tugged on the lapels of his suit and pulled him to her. She slanted her lips over his and slid her tongue into his mouth, loving the purely masculine taste of him. Since she’d been attacked he hadn’t kissed her like that, nor had he made any attempt to touch her and she wanted him to. She craved his touch, his kiss, his warm body entwined with hers. “Do you have to go to the office today?” she whispered suggestively against his lips.
“Trinity,” he groaned and kissed her a little harder than she expected.
She moaned. Yes! This was the Laszlo she wanted—the man who was hot for her, demanding yet gentle; the man who could set her ablaze with a single touch. “Please? I don’t want to be here alone all day.”
“You’re killing me, love,” he said as he stood and removed his jacket and tie.
Trinity knew she’d won when he started to unbutton his shirt. She smiled and watched as his smooth muscular chest became exposed to her. Tentatively, she reached up and trailed her finger down the length of his torso. His stomach hollowed beneath her touch and she felt her heart rate quicken.
“Are you sure about this, love?”
She met his gaze, which was intense and smoldering. “Yeah, I’m sure.”
“The doctor said you should refrain from—”
“I don’t care what the doctor said.” She knelt on the bed and put her hands on his chest. It hurt a little, but she refused to let him know that or else he’d be sure to stop now before they even got started. And she was desperate for him.
“You have to promise me that if anything hurts you’ll tell me.” His hands went to his pants. He removed his belt, undid his pants, and dropped them to the floor.
“I promise,” she said, gazing at his hard cock with hunger. He still hesitated. “I trust you, Laszlo. I know you’ll be gentle.” Trinity removed the covers from her and lay back. Laszlo settled between her open legs and she was grateful that she’d decided to sleep naked last night. It made things easier right now.
His cockhead pressed against her opening. “You’re wet, Trin,” he said as he slowly and gently pushed into her. All of his weight was in his arms so that his upper body was not in contact with hers. “God, I love how ready you always are for me.”
“Ah, Laszlo.” Yes, she was wet and yes, she was eager for him. Even though it had only been a couple of days, it felt like an eternity since they’d last been together. She was sure the fear of death had a lot to do with her insatiable desire for him. One final push and he was all the way inside of her. She moaned and he began to move with slow, shallow, controlled strokes. Her fingers curled against the hard flesh of his biceps and the world exploded around her as a myriad of pleasurable sensations flooded her senses. Flashes of bright colored lights clouded her vision. Laszlo’s encouraging moans and whispered words tickled her ears. His cologne took up residence in her nostrils until it was the only thing she could, or ever wanted to, smell.
“Trinity, ah god, baby.” His arms shook as he fought to keep his weight from crushing her. He found her lips and kissed her, his hips keeping rhythm with the undulation of his tongue in her mouth.
“Yes,” she moaned, lifting her hips to meet his. A sharp pain pierced her ribs and she cried out.
Laszlo stilled instantly. “Are you okay? Did I hurt you?”
His voice was so full of compassion it tugged at her heart. “No, you didn’t hurt me. I’m okay.”
He remained unmoving inside of her. His gaze locked with hers. “When I found you on that floor…god, I thought I’d lost you.”
“The last thing I remember was thinking about you and how I might never see—”
“Don’t.” He silenced her with a kiss that seared her ability to think. And then he started to move again, his cock withdrawing from her slowly only to be plunged back in just as slowly. “I love you, Trinity.”
She swore she actually gasped from the unexpectedness of his declaration. He loved her? Laszlo Cstary—the man she’d fantasized about for months, the man she never dreamed would give her anything more than one incredible night of wild sex, loved her?
“I love you so much,” he whispered bringing his lips down to hers again.
“I love you, too,” she said as her stomach tightened and her legs stiffened. She felt Laszlo swell inside of her and she knew they were both headed for an orgasm that would leave her weak and shaky. It happened every time they orgasmed simultaneously and it was a feeling she was quickly becoming addicted to.
“Fuck,” he grunted and jerked inside of her.
She cried his name and clamped her legs tightly around him. Her body trembled until she couldn’t stand it any longer and then she just went limp. He kissed her neck and shoulder before pulling out of her and rolling onto his back. Trinity wanted to roll over and lay her head on his chest like she had before, but it hurt too much to be on her side.
Laszlo moved and settled beside her on an elbow. His hand rested on her stomach. “Are you sure you’re okay?”
“Yes.” She chuckled. “I’m better than okay.” Her eyes fluttered closed and she yawned. She didn’t realize how tired she was. He moved closer to her and traced her lips with his thumb. She loved it when he did that. It felt so good. “Thank you for staying,” she murmured.
“I will never leave you, Trinity.”
She forced her eyes open and turned her head to look at him. There was truth in what he said. She could see it in his eyes and all over his face. “You really mean that?”
“Yeah,” he nodded, “I do. When I found you, I thought you were dead, Trinity, and that was the most horrific thing in the world.” He swallowed. “In that brief moment I knew I couldn’t live without you and I don’t want to.” Laszlo reached behind him and fumbled in the drawer of the bedside stand. He produced a small black velvet box.
Tears sprang to her eyes and she was powerless to stop them. When he opened the box to show her the large princess cut diamond ring, she cupped her hand over her mouth and gasped. Oh god, this wasn’t really happening, was it? She must be dreaming.
Laszlo took her left hand into his. “I love you, Trinity, and I want to spend every moment of the rest of my life loving you. Will you marry me?”
Her throat chose that moment to constrict, cutting off her ability to speak. All she could do was nod. He slid the ring onto her finger and she held it up to admire it. “Oh, wow,” she whispered breathlessly. She’d never seen anything so beautiful before in her life. “If this is just another dream I’m going to be really angry.”
He laughed. “Trust me, love, you’re not dreaming.”
She sat up and flung her arms around his neck despite how much it hurt to do so. “I love you, Laszlo.” She cupped his face and planted several kisses on his face and lips. “I love you so much.”
“Easy, love.” He removed her hands and guided her back down onto the bed. “I want nothing more than to make love to you all day, but don’t hurt yourself. You need to rest.”
“I’ll rest, but only if you stay in bed with me.” She gave him a pouty smile. And then she held up her hand again to admire her ring.
He reached up and pressed his palm to hers. “Do you like it?”
“I love it, Laszlo. It’s beautiful.” She couldn’t stop staring at it and the way it sparkled. “Thank you.”
“I should be the one thanking you.” He put his hand on her stomach once more. “You have no idea how happy you’ve made me.”
“Oh, I think I have an idea.” She smiled. “I was thinking, if it’s a boy, I want to name him after you. I want him to be a junior.”
“Really?”
She laughed at the expression on his face. “Yeah, really.”
He nodded. “I like that. Although, it would be nice to have a girl, too. You know, Daddy’s Little Girl…yeah, I could get used to that.”
“I bet you could.”
“Well, whatever we don’t have this time, we’ll just have to try for next time.”
“Next time?” She raised her eyebrows. “You want more kids?”
He shrugged. “Yeah, I’ve thought about it. Haven’t you?”
“No. I’m a little preoccupied with trying to get through this pregnancy. But I think I’m open to the
idea
of having more kids.” She yawned again.
“We’ll talk about it later.” He kissed her forehead. “Get some sleep, love. I promise I’ll be right here when you wake up.”
Trinity nodded and let herself succumb to sleep. For the first time in longer than she could remember she slept peacefully and without nightmares. Her mind was filled with thoughts of Laszlo, their baby, and their future together. She never thought it would happen to her, but it had. She’d found her happily ever after with the man of her dreams.
“May I help you?” said the woman behind the front desk. She was chubby with thick glasses and a bad complexion.
“Yes, Mr. Cstary to see Congressman Ross.” Laszlo kept his face blank and his demeanor cool despite the overwhelming urge to barge into Jason’s office and beat him bloody.
“Is he expecting you?” she asked, looking at him over the rim of her glasses.
“No, but it’s imperative that I see him. Today.” His voice left no room for argument.
“And what is this regarding?”
Laszlo cleared his throat. “A potentially large personal contribution to his campaign fund.”
And with that, the woman smiled. She picked up the phone and announced his visit. “The Congressman will see you.”
Of course he will, the slimy bastard.
Laszlo smiled coolly. “Thank you.” He entered the office with a confident air of authority, knowing he wouldn’t leave until he got his way.
“Mr. Cstary, what an honor.” Congressman Jason Ross gave Laszlo’s hand a firm eager shake. “To what do I owe the pleasure?” Jason smiled broadly. “I’m sorry, please have a seat.” He nodded to the chair in front of his desk. “Can I offer you a drink? Scotch? Bourbon?”
“No, thank you.” Laszlo took a seat and waited until Jason was seated across from him.
“Okay, well, what can I do for you today?”
“For starters, you can stay the fuck away from Trinity Collins.” The color drained from Jason’s face and Laszlo smiled with satisfaction. Hit ‘em hard and hit ‘em first. It always worked.
“Uh, I’m sorry, but I don’t know—”
“Cut the shit Ross. I know all about you and your involvement with Trinity.” Jason gave him an icy stare as if that would intimidate Laszlo. It was laughable. “I also know it was you who attacked her the other night.”
“That’s a serious accusation, Mr. Cstary. I assume you have some proof.” Jason folded his hands on top of his desk.
Laszlo remained relaxed in his chair. “I have her word.”
Jason laughed. “You haven’t learned by now that her word means shit?” He shook his head. “You seem like a smart man. I thought you would’ve known that.”
Clenching his hands into fists, he took a calming breath. “I’m not here to discuss Trinity’s character with you.”
“Then why are you here? You still haven’t said.”
Laszlo stood. “I want you out of Trinity’s life.”
“That’s not possible. You see, she stole something from me. Something very important and I’m not giving up until I get it back.”
“Oh, you mean these?” Laszlo pulled a small manila envelope from his inside jacket pocket and waved them in the air.
Jason stood with a stunned expression on his face. “Are those…?”
“Yes, Congressman, these are the pictures you’re so desperate to get back.”
“How did you get those?” Jason came around the front of his desk. “That bitch swore she was the only one who knew where they were.”
Laszlo loved it when his opponent squirmed. It was a rush to be the one in control, the one who held all the cards and had all the power to do as he wished with it. “That bitch happens to be my fiancé. When you attacked her, you fucked with me, and trust me, Congressman, that is not a good thing for you.”
“No, I don’t think you realize who you’re messing with.” Jason pointed in Laszlo’s face. “I’m a goddamned United States Congressman. I’ve got contacts all over the world who will do what I want without a second thought.”
“I’m sure that’s true, but I have a hell of a lot more money and resources than you do.” The desire to hit him was all-consuming. Laszlo straightened his tie. “So, this is how this is going to work. I’m going to give you back these pictures and I’m going to make a generous donation to your campaign fund. In return, you will never contact Trinity or her brother ever again. Is that clear?”
“And if I say no?”
Christ, this guy was a real piece of work. “I will expose you for what you really are.”
Jason walked over to the bar in the corner and poured himself a drink. Laszlo could hear the shaking of the glass in his hand. “What guarantee do I have that you won’t go to the press anyway?”
“I’m a businessman, Mr. Ross. Unlike you, my word means something. Maybe I should be the one asking what guarantee you can give me.”
“I have a lot to lose if those pictures are made public.” Jason turned to face Laszlo. “Do I have your word that those are all of them?” He nodded to the envelope in Laszlo’s hand.
“Yes, these are all of them. There’s also a check in here.” Laszlo tossed the envelope on the desk. “Now, if you so much as look at Trinity ever again, I will not hesitate to take care of you. Permanently.” He spun on his heel and walked out of the office without another word. Jason was a sniveling politician who got off on beating women. Laszlo was confident that he’d made his point.

He arrived home to find Trinity sitting in the kitchen sipping at a glass of orange juice. He stopped and admired her for a moment. She was breathtaking and she was all his. He was still having trouble believing that she’d agreed to marry him. He’d been prepared for her to say it was too soon and that she didn’t want to rush into it. So imagine his surprise when she’d said yes. God, how had he gotten so lucky? And knowing he got to come home to her every day? That was surreal.
“What’re you doing out of bed?” he asked coming up behind her and kissing her cheek.
“I’m tired of sitting in that bed,” she whined. “I’m so bored.”
He chuckled. “If you’re up for it I’d like to take you out.” Laszlo sat and guided her over to his lap. He wrapped his arms around her waist. “We have a lot to celebrate.”
“We do?”
“Mmm hmm,” he murmured, kissing her neck.
She tilted her head to the side. “Like what?”
“Our engagement.” He kissed the soft spot behind her ear. He loved kissing that spot and the reaction she had each time he did. “Our baby.” He nipped at her earlobe. “The fact that Jason is never going to bother you again.”
Trinity jerked away and looked at him. “Are you serious?”
“Yes, love, I’m serious. You’ll never have to worry about him again.”
She put her arms around his neck and hugged him so tight she nearly choked him. “Oh my god, thank you, thank you, thank you.” She peppered his cheek with kisses. “Do you know what this means?”
He hesitated for a moment. “No, what?”
“It means I can marry you and we can have this baby and I don’t have to run anymore.”
Laszlo smiled. “No, no more running, Trinity. You’re home, love. You’re home and you’re with me.” He squeezed her and thanked God that he’d brought her into his life. Together, they had a wedding to plan.
