In the next instant, we both moan and let the pleasure of our orgasms take over. He falls on the bed beside me and pulls me into his arms. With our bodies now spent and sated he leans downs and kisses me thoroughly before snuggling up against me. I’m more relaxed now than I have been.

Right before falling asleep I feel him kiss me on the neck and hear him whisper, “Goodnight, beautiful.”

Chapter Six

July 6, 2014

Waking up the next morning, I am happier than I have been in a long time. Until I roll over and notice Drew’s side of the bed is empty. Sitting up I glance around and I don’t see any of his clothes and mine are folded and laying on top of my dresser. Disappointment and hurt automatically start consuming my thoughts. I start to get up when I hear the front door open and close. I’m about to reach for my phone and call someone when Drew enters my bedroom.

“I thought you left.” I tell him trying to conceal the excitement from realizing he hadn’t left after all.

“No, Cupcake. I ran to Café Du Monde and picked up coffee and beignets for our breakfast.” He said showing the white paper bag in one hand and coffee in the other.

“Oh. My. Yum. Get over here and let me kiss you good morning first.” I tell him.

I watch as his muscles strain through his t-shirt with every move he makes. He sets our breakfast on the night stand beside the bed and leans over towards me allowing me to grab a fist full of his shirt pulling him closer for lust filled kiss. I pull back before things start to intensify more than they already are.

“Damn, Ivy. If I knew bringing breakfast and coffee in the mornings would get you going like this, I would have done this a hell of a lot sooner.” He tells me with a wink.

“Yea, well it doesn’t help everyone, detective. This affect is for you and you alone.” I tell him giving me a wink back.

I love this easy banter between the two of us. Especially after the hotter than hell night we spent together. Realizing today is Saturday and the day after a holiday we are still closed for the weekend, so I have the whole day off. Drew informs me he is on call but otherwise I have him for the remainder of the day. We spend most of the day in bed. Around five in the evening he asks if I’m hungry and wants to know if I want to go get something to eat. When I agree, I get up and start getting ready while he runs home to change.

When he returns, we head out to a local Creole restaurant we discovered earlier in the day that we both like. Once we get there, I learn he had called to make a reservation when he ran home to change. He comes around the truck and opens my door for me. Taking my hand, we walk into the restaurant.

The moment we clear the door I feel him tense at the same time I do. Not sure why he tensed up I look over at him. He is staring at the same table that had caught my attention.

“Shit.” We mutter in unison.

Laughing I ask, “Do I want to know why you said shit? I know why I did because there is Owen sitting at that table with the pretty Rachel Bilson look-a-like.”

He gives me a confused and offended look. “That is Owen and the girl he was messing around on you with?” He asks. When I just nod, he shakes his head. The incredulous look on his face has me baffled now. “The girl he is currently sitting with is a girl I dated in high school. I never told you and Emily about her because she went to a different school and it wasn’t serious. Besides she was way too clingy back then. Even if I hadn’t had a thing for you it would have never worked out.” He finishes telling me.

This causes me to laugh out loud and draw Owen and his date’s attention. I see the moment realization comes over Owen’s face when he recognizes me. Normally seeing Owen would cause some thought of regret or pain to hit me, but this time seeing him did nothing to me. I look at Drew and realize in that moment he’s the reason it doesn’t bother me anymore.

I turn and focus all my attention on the amazing man standing beside me. The hostess leads us past their table and they stop us. Drew does a brief introduction and the girl introduces Drew to Owen. She had absolutely no clue I was Owen’s ex-wife. My whole appearance and attitude has changed since the divorce. I am happier and skinnier now then I was during the time of the divorce. Owen proceeds to inform the girl of who I am and we bid them goodnight to continue on to our table.

During dinner the previous encounter never seemed to have happened. The only comment Drew did make was that Owen was a dumbass. He also said that Owen’s loss and ignorance was his gain. Yep, this man has a way of making everyone else in the world disappear.

After dinner we make it back to my place, in the middle of an intense make-out session Drew’s phone rings and he gets called out for a case. He kisses me goodbye and rushes out to his truck only after he makes sure I lock the door behind him. It’s close to midnight now, so I decide to call it a night.

Chapter Seven

July 8, 2014

Two days later

It’s been a steady Monday morning. Waking up at five in the morning isn’t one of my favorite things to do, but it’s necessary to get everything baked and ready before we unlock the door for customers. Sam has been here all morning still continuing to hover. Yesterday was spent catching up with Emily and Sam and informing them of how mine and Drew’s date went. Emily is ecstatic that things are going so well between us. I talked to Drew on and off yesterday, but didn’t get to see him because he was working an angle on the case he got called in for the other night.

I finally stop to take a break around nine and grab a cup of coffee to boost my energy levels up a notch. The moment I sit down my cell phone starts ringing.

Looking down at the phone, I smile when I see Drew’s name on display. “Good morning, handsome.” I tell him.

I can hear the smile in his voice. “What are you doing, beautiful? Is your morning going good?” he asks.

I smile even though he can’t see it. “I’m taking a coffee break. My morning is going good, but its even better now that I have gotten to talk to you.” I tell him.

“Well then both of our days are fixing to get even better. I have to run a few errands and one of them will have me close to your area. I’m going to stop by and see your pretty face for a moment.” He informs me.

“Sounds great. Can’t wait to see you.” I tell him before we say goodbye and end the call.

Deciding to take the trash out before Drew gets here; I grab a large garbage bag and empty the trash bins around the bakery. Once all the trash is bagged up, I head out the back door heading for the dumpster. I barely clear the door before I hear an annoying high pitched voice start yelling at me.

“You stupid little witch, how dare you steal him from me. Drew is supposed to be mine. Do you hear me? He is mine and you can’t have him.” The voice said rudely.

Looking up I was shocked to see the girl Drew and I had ran into the other night at the restaurant. Brittany… Or was her name Lindsey? I honestly can’t remember her name. I do remember meeting her and she had been wearing a pant suit with her hair fixed perfectly in an up-do. Drew had been the only person, thing, or thought that had captured my full attention that night. It had been our first date. Now I wish I had paid more attention to her. Drew told me that she has had a thing for him since they dated for a couple weeks in high school, but I figured with her having been seeing Owen she would be over it.

Today she wore a devious look in her brown eyes. The blue floral sundress she is wearing is wrinkled and her brown hair that had been styled in a neat bun is now loose, and the only breeze we have had all day is blowing it into her face.

“I’m sorry, excuse me what are you saying?” I ask her taken aback by her attitude.

“YOU ARE A BOYFRIEND STEALER!!!” she screeched.

“Lind…Britt… oh, what is your name again?” I asked her knowing this is just going to aggravate her more. Honestly, it isn’t intentional. I really can’t remember her name. She has always been the actress look-a-like to me. While continuing to stare at her in a perplexed manor, I slide my hand into my pocket to where I am now touching my phone. I know Drew is the last person I talked with, so I hit the send button again hoping it would connect with the right person. Regardless, someone would see my name on their caller id and call Sam to see what is going on.

“Oh, I see exactly how it is… You can steal my man, but you don’t have the common decency to remember my name. I can only imagine why Owen couldn’t stand being with you anymore.” She huffs and stomps a foot before screeching again, “My name is Brittany with an
ANY.
Do you think you can remember it now?” She asks still shouting.

“I’m sorry my mind was on other things when we were introduced. I’m also sorry you think I stole Drew from you, but you and I both know that is not true besides you have Owen. Drew hasn’t been yours since high school, and I seriously don’t think that really even counts.” I shot back not concealing the irritation in my voice.

The look in her eyes clearly screams crazy ex-girlfriend and only confirms what I already know—this woman has a few screws loose in her head.
Oh, hell who am I kidding? She is absolutely mental.

She didn’t get a chance to say or do anything before Sam and Drew exit the bakery and make their way over to us.

“What in the hell are you doing here, Brittany?” Drew asks her while anger or annoyance radiated off of him like heat waves.

“I want to see what she has that I don’t.” She whines, giving me a look of disgust.

“Um… how about sanity.” Sam chimes in, causing her to huff and grunt.

Seriously Sam? Not helping here.

Brittany huffs and starts her whining again. “Drew, are you really going to let him talk to me like that?”

He doesn’t respond, but I could see the irritation starting to bleed through into his expression. “Sam, why don’t you and Ivy go on inside while I have a nice talk with Brittany.” Drew tells us giving me a weak smile.

Sam grabs my hand and starts pulling towards my open back door. “Gladly.” He manages to retort before dragging me inside and slamming the door behind us.

The moment the back door slams shut Sam starts to say some smart ass comment, but I wave him off because honestly I am in no mood to argue with anyone at the moment. I sit and stew in silence I’m really not mad at Drew or Brittany I’m just frustrated. First—I’m getting random flowers with secret admirer notes with pictures of me in them and second—I really like Drew and this crazy witch can’t except that he does not want her.
