It had been a few months since she had moved in with Nick and it had been nothing but bliss. Their relationship and living situation was everything it had been from that first night on the boat. “I could have never imagined that this is what my life would be like when I met you at that club,” she told him halfway through the movie. He laughed and agreed. They did not bother to hit pause as they looked at each other with genuine smiles of pure joy fixed in place. “I could not even think of this when I was trying to cope with learning about your family,” she told him.

“I know,” he said. He had finally gotten to a place where he did not feel guilt or shame about the associations of his family when it came to Shauna. There had been no trouble since the one event with them or anyone in his family at all. It seemed Marcus truly meant it when he said it had all been taken care of. But Nick was always true to his word in doing everything to be sure Shauna would be safe. Their house together was a new one they chose together in a neighborhood of top security. He had made sure the same safety measures were taken for this house as any other. They had a condo to go into hiding if it ever became necessary. He spared no time, effort, or expense in showing her how much he cared about her.

“You took the plunge,” Michelle said a few days later over lunch. It was true.

“I did,” she said contently.
