my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word.

 Depart from me, ye evildoers: for I will keep the commandments of my God.

 Uphold me according unto thy word, that I may live: and let me not be ashamed of my hope.

 Hold thou me up, and I shall be safe: and I will have respect unto thy statutes continually.

 Thou hast trodden down all them that err from thy statutes: for their deceit
is
falsehood.

 Thou puttest away all the wicked of the earth

dross: therefore I love thy testimonies.

 My flesh trembleth for fear of thee; and I am afraid of thy judgments.

 I have done judgment and justice: leave me not to mine oppressors.

 Be surety for thy servant for good: let not the proud oppress me.

 Mine eyes fail for thy salvation, and for the word of thy righteousness.

 Deal with thy servant according unto thy mercy, and teach me thy statutes.

 He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that followeth after vain
persons
shall have poverty enough.

 A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.

 It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom an hundred and twenty princes, which should be over the whole kingdom;
2
 and over these three presidents; of whom Daniel
was
first: that the princes might give accounts unto them, and the king should have no damage.
3
 Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit
was
in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.
4
 Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he
was
faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.
5
 Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find
it
against him concerning the law of his God.
6
 Then these presidents and princes assembled together to the king, and said thus unto him, King Darius, live for ever.
7
 All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counsellors, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.
8
 Now, O king, establish the decree, and sign the writing, that it be not changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.
9
 Wherefore king Darius signed the writing and the decree.
10
 Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.
11
 Then these men assembled, and found Daniel praying and making supplication before his God.
12
 Then they came near, and spake before the king concerning the king's decree; Hast thou not signed a decree, that every man that shall ask
a petition
of any God or man within thirty days, save of thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions?
The king answered and said, The thing
is
true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.
13
 Then answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, which
is
of the children of the captivity of Judah, regardeth not thee, O king, nor the decree that thou hast signed, but maketh his petition three times a day.
14
 Then the king, when he heard
these
words, was sore displeased with himself, and set
his
heart on Daniel to deliver him: and he laboured till the going down of the sun to deliver him.
15
 Then these men assembled unto the king, and said unto the king, Know, O king, that the law of the Medes and Persians
is,
That no decree nor statute which the king establisheth may be changed.
16
 Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast
him
into the den of lions.
Now
the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee.
17
 And a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.
18
 Then the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting: neither were instruments of musick brought before him: and his sleep went from him.
19
 Then the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste unto the den of lions.
20
 And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel:
and
the king spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions?
21
 Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever.
22
 My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.
23
 Then was the king exceeding glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.
24
 And the king commanded, and they brought those men which had accused Daniel, and they cast
them
into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions had the mastery of them, and brake all their bones in pieces or ever they came at the bottom of the den.
25
 Then king Darius wrote unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.
26
 I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he
is
the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom
that
which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion
shall be even
unto the end.
27
 He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.
28
 So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.

 This second epistle, beloved, I [Peter] now write unto you; in
both
which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:
2
 that ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:
3
 knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
4
 and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as
they were
from the beginning of the creation.
5
 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
6
 whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
7
 but the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
8
 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day
is
with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
9
 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
10
 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

Seeing
then
that
all these things shall be dissolved, what manner
of persons
ought ye to be in
all
holy conversation and godliness,
12
 looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
13
 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
14
 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
15
 And account
that
the longsuffering of our Lord
is
salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
16
 as also in all
his
epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as
they do
also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
17
 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know
these things
before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.
18
 But grow in grace, and
in
the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him
be
glory both now and for ever. Amen.

 Thy testimonies
are
wonderful: therefore doth my soul keep them.

 The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.

 I opened my mouth, and panted: for I longed for thy commandments.

 Look thou upon me, and be merciful unto me, as thou usest to do unto those that love thy name.

 Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.

 Deliver me from the oppression of man: so will I keep thy precepts.

 Make thy face to shine upon thy servant; and teach me thy statutes.

 Rivers of waters run down mine eyes, because they keep not thy law.

 Righteous
art
thou, O L

, and upright
are
thy judgments.

 Thy testimonies
that
thou hast commanded
are
righteous and very faithful.

 My zeal hath consumed me, because mine enemies have forgotten thy words.

 Thy word
is
very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it.

 I
am
small and despised:
yet
do not I forget thy precepts.

 Thy righteousness
is
an everlasting righteousness, and thy law
is
the truth.

 Trouble and anguish have taken hold on me:
yet
thy commandments
are
my delights.

 The righteousness of thy testimonies
is
everlasting: give me understanding, and I shall live.

my
whole heart; hear me, O L

: I will keep thy statutes.

 I cried unto thee; save me, and I shall keep thy testimonies.

 I prevented the dawning of the morning, and cried: I hoped in thy word.

 Mine eyes prevent the

watches, that I might meditate in thy word.

, quicken me according to thy judgment.

 They draw nigh that follow after mischief: they are far from thy law.

; and all thy commandments

truth.

 Concerning thy testimonies, I have known of old that thou hast founded them for ever.
