John 8:21-30

21
Then said Jesus again unto them [the Pharisees],
I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.

22
Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come.

23
 And he said unto them,
Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.
24

I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am
he,
ye shall die in your sins.

25
Then said they unto him, Who art thou?

And Jesus saith unto them,
Even
the same
that I said unto you from the beginning.
26

I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him.
27
They understood not that he spake to them of the Father.

28
 Then said Jesus unto them,
When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am
he,
and
that
I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.
29

And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.
30
As he spake these words, many believed on him.

Psalm 111:1-10

1
 Praise ye the L
ORD
. I will praise the L
ORD
with
my
whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and
in
the congregation.

2
 The works of the L
ORD
are
great, sought out of all them that have pleasure therein.

3
 His work
is
honourable and glorious: and his righteousness endureth for ever.

4
He hath made his wonderful works to be remembered: the L
ORD
is
gracious and full of compassion.

5
He hath given meat unto them that fear him: he will ever be mindful of his covenant.

6
He hath shewed his people the power of his works, that he may give them the heritage of the heathen.

7
 The works of his hands
are
verity and judgment; all his commandments
are
sure.

8
They stand fast for ever and ever,
and are
done in truth and uprightness.

9
He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend
is
his name.

10
 The fear of the L
ORD
is
the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do
his commandments:
his praise endureth for ever.

Proverbs 15:11

11
 Hell and destruction
are
before the L
ORD
: how much more then the hearts of the children of men?

1 Samuel 18:5–19:24

5
And David went out whithersoever Saul sent him,
and
behaved himself wisely: and Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul's servants.
6
And it came to pass as they came, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tabrets, with joy, and with instruments of musick.
7
 And the women answered
one another
as they played, and said, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.
8
And Saul was very wroth, and the saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed
but
thousands: and
what
can he have more but the kingdom?
9
And Saul eyed David from that day and forward.

10
And it came to pass on the morrow, that the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of the house: and David played with his hand, as at other times: and
there was
a javelin in Saul's hand.
11
And Saul cast the javelin; for he said, I will smite David even to the wall
with it.
And David avoided out of his presence twice.

12
And Saul was afraid of David, because the L
ORD
was with him, and was departed from Saul.
13
Therefore Saul removed him from him, and made him his captain over a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people.
14
And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the L
ORD
was
with him.
15
Wherefore when Saul saw that he behaved himself very wisely, he was afraid of him.
16
But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he went out and came in before them.

17
And Saul said to David, Behold my elder daughter Merab, her will I give thee to wife: only be thou valiant for me, and fight the L
ORD
's battles. For Saul said, Let not mine hand be upon him, but let the hand of the Philistines be upon him.

18
And David said unto Saul, Who
am
I? and what
is
my life,
or
my father's family in Israel, that I should be son in law to the king?
19
But it came to pass at the time when Merab Saul's daughter should have been given to David, that she was given unto Adriel the Meholathite to wife.

20
And Michal Saul's daughter loved David: and they told Saul, and the thing pleased him.
21
And Saul said, I will give him her, that she may be a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him. Wherefore Saul said to David, Thou shalt this day be my son in law in
the one of
the twain.

22
 And Saul commanded his servants,
saying,
Commune with David secretly, and say, Behold, the king hath delight in thee, and all his servants love thee: now therefore be the king's son in law.

23
And Saul's servants spake those words in the ears of David. And David said, Seemeth it to you
a
light
thing
to be a king's son in law, seeing that I
am
a poor man, and lightly esteemed?
24
And the servants of Saul told him, saying, On this manner spake David.

25
And Saul said, Thus shall ye say to David, The king desireth not any dowry, but an hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of the king's enemies. But Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.
26
And when his servants told David these words, it pleased David well to be the king's son in law: and the days were not expired.
27
Wherefore David arose and went, he and his men, and slew of the Philistines two hundred men; and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full tale to the king, that he might be the king's son in law. And Saul gave him Michal his daughter to wife.

28
And Saul saw and knew that the L
ORD
was
with David, and
that
Michal Saul's daughter loved him.
29
And Saul was yet the more afraid of David; and Saul became David's enemy continually.
30
Then the princes of the Philistines went forth: and it came to pass, after they went forth,
that
David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul; so that his name was much set by.

19:
1
And Saul spake to Jonathan his son, and to all his servants, that they should kill David.
2
But Jonathan Saul's son delighted much in David: and Jonathan told David, saying, Saul my father seeketh to kill thee: now therefore, I pray thee, take heed to thyself until the morning, and abide in a secret
place,
and hide thyself:
3
and I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where thou
art,
and I will commune with my father of thee; and what I see, that I will tell thee.

4
And Jonathan spake good of David unto Saul his father, and said unto him, Let not the king sin against his servant, against David; because he hath not sinned against thee, and because his works
have been
to thee-ward very good:
5
for he did put his life in his hand, and slew the Philistine, and the L
ORD
wrought a great salvation for all Israel: thou sawest
it,
and didst rejoice: wherefore then wilt thou sin against innocent blood, to slay David without a cause?

6
And Saul hearkened unto the voice of Jonathan: and Saul sware,
As
the L
ORD
liveth, he shall not be slain.
7
And Jonathan called David, and Jonathan shewed him all those things. And Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence, as in times past.

8
And there was war again: and David went out, and fought with the Philistines, and slew them with a great slaughter; and they fled from him.

9
And the evil spirit from the L
ORD
was upon Saul, as he sat in his house with his javelin in his hand: and David played with
his
hand.
10
And Saul sought to smite David even to the wall with the javelin; but he slipped away out of Saul's presence, and he smote the javelin into the wall: and David fled, and escaped that night.

11
Saul also sent messengers unto David's house, to watch him, and to slay him in the morning: and Michal David's wife told him, saying, If thou save not thy life to night, tomorrow thou shalt be slain.
12
So Michal let David down through a window: and he went, and fled, and escaped.
13
And Michal took an image, and laid
it
in the bed, and put a pillow of goats'
hair
for his bolster, and covered
it
with a cloth.
14
And when Saul sent messengers to take David, she said, He
is
sick.

15
 And Saul sent the messengers
again
to see David, saying, Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may slay him.
16
And when the messengers were come in, behold,
there was
an image in the bed, with a pillow of goats'
hair
for his bolster.
17
And Saul said unto Michal, Why hast thou deceived me so, and sent away mine enemy, that he is escaped?

And Michal answered Saul, He said unto me, Let me go; why should I kill thee?

18
So David fled, and escaped, and came to Samuel to Ramah, and told him all that Saul had done to him. And he and Samuel went and dwelt in Naioth.
19
And it was told Saul, saying, Behold, David
is
at Naioth in Ramah.
20
And Saul sent messengers to take David: and when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing
as
appointed over them, the Spirit of God was upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied.
21
And when it was told Saul, he sent other messengers, and they prophesied likewise. And Saul sent messengers again the third time, and they prophesied also.

22
Then went he also to Ramah, and came to a great well that
is
in Sechu: and he asked and said, Where
are
Samuel and David?

And
one
said, Behold,
they be
at Naioth in Ramah.
23
And he went thither to Naioth in Ramah: and the Spirit of God was upon him also, and he went on, and prophesied, until he came to Naioth in Ramah.
24
And he stripped off his clothes also, and prophesied before Samuel in like manner, and lay down naked all that day and all that night. Wherefore they say,
Is
Saul also among the prophets?

John 8:31-59

31
Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him,
If ye continue in my word,
then
are ye my disciples indeed;
32

and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

33
They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?

34
 Jesus answered them,
Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
35

And the servant abideth not in the house for ever:
but
the Son abideth ever.
36

If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
37

I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.
38

I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.

39
They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father.

Jesus saith unto them,
If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham.
40

But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.
41

Ye do the deeds of your father.

Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father,
even
God.

42
 Jesus said unto them,
If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.
43

Why do ye not understand my speech?
even
because ye cannot hear my word.
44

Ye are of
your
father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
45

And because I tell
you
the truth, ye believe me not.
46

Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?
47

He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear
them
not, because ye are not of God.

48
Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?

49
 Jesus answered,
I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me.
50

And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.
51

Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.

52
Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death.
53
Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself?

54
 Jesus answered,
If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:
55

yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying.
56

Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw
it,
and was glad.

57
Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?

58
 Jesus said unto them,
Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
59
Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.
