“DARRIEN IT’S ME ARI!” She screamed in agony and Darrien’s face fell, he saw Gwen stand and come to him but he didn’t feel her touch.

He knew exactly whom the voice was it had connected with him. It had been years since he heard her. He gripped the phone tighter as more blows landed and more cries echoed through to his ear. Gwen attempted to touch his arm but he withdrew his arm from her grasp. He began to pace.  The line went silent.

“We’ll be in touch. You have inherited a debt that will be paid or the girl will have it taken out on her.” A sickly sweet voice sounded before the line went blank.

“DAMNIT.” Darrien chucked his phone at the wall.

Gwen jumped when Darrien’s phone impacted on the wall by her kitchen door that lead to the garage. She reached out for him but he recoiled from her touch. She could feel the anger, rolled off him in thick waves. He shook. “Who was that?” She asked tentatively.

“Someone was hurting her.” Darrien’s knuckles were ghostly white because his hands gripped into fists so tight nothing would break their hold.

“Who is she?” Gwen blurted before she could think, or put the pieces together.

“That was my sister.” He sounded desolate then he burst suddenly he threw his phone with all his might at the wall and stormed out the front door.
