“Oh. Yeah, well, you ranted on and on about a couple of the Cougars. I just spent the last thirty minutes scouring their recent tweets. Guess who was particularly busy for a couple of hours last night?”
“Not a clue.”
“You sap all the fun out of sleuthing, Victor. Seems you were right about some of the hatred levels. I took some screenshots of what Phil Prescott was innocently leaking in the wee hours. They should be there now.”
“Fucking Prescott,” I snarled as I sat up. Dan sat up as well. “Heather, you get the Jessica Fletcher award for advanced snoopiness.” I looked directly at Dan. “She says Phil is the one behind all this.”
Dan held out his hand for the phone. A trickle of unease ran through me but I handed the smartphone over.
“Hey, Heather. Yeah, thanks a bunch. No, no, I mean it. It’s cool. Someday, when things get quiet, you come over for dinner. Yeah, I’d like that too. Okay. Thanks again. Later.” He handed my phone back to me. “She seems nice.”
“She’s okay.” I began searching for the screen shots in my email. Heather had been a busy little internet bee. I flipped through fifteen tweets from Phil, all to friends of his, each one with the same message.
Proof that @darou and @venompole are butt-fucking each other. Lover spat in bathroom. Whole team knows. Fags on skates. F’n disgusting.
I looked at Dan, who appeared to be gut-punched.
“Of course, you realize this means war,” I said in my best Bugs Bunny voice.
“That fucker goes down,” Dan growled.
I gave him a kiss. Let the preseason games begin!
