Cam shook her a little.
“Shut up.”

Rolf rose. “Cam?”

Caught her
outside trying to eavesdrop.”

Rolf
looked
at her, causing her spine to
stiffen. Andraste did a quick, instinctive check of her
shields.

Well now, that’s
interesting. What were you hoping to hear, darlin’?”

I think we
should punish her,” Prey One said. “She looks like she’d enjoy a
good, hard punishing.”

Andraste looked at him
in disgust. Was he for real? And did Rolf run his pack so sloppily
that peons were allowed to say stupid shit in his presence without
permission?

Rolf looked at
his wolf, impassive. “Shut the fuck up, you moron. You’re already
in enough trouble. Cam, get them the hell out of here. Put
the
m
in the
dungeon.”

Andraste wanted to snap
her teeth in frustration. Or howl. Her shoulders shook with the
force of her frustration as her eyes followed the Prey as it left
with Cam.

Do you have an
interest in those two?”

Andraste looked at
Rolf, who came around the desk like he was stalking her.

No,” she
said.

A mistake. His blue
eyes flattened, watching her with the unblinking intensity of a
snake. Neat trick for a wolf.

You’re
lying.”

He moved to grab her, a
lightening quick movement she instinctively evaded, whirling to one
side with a speed to match his own, immediately realizing her
mistake.

He smiled, and it
chilled her. “I don’t like liars. But I like spies even less. I
knew there was something off about you, darlin’.”

This time when he moved
it was with shifter speed- he now knew, or at least suspected, she
wasn’t human. He pinned her against the wall, blocking her attempts
to get free with the ease of a seasoned warrior.

The problem was,
despite the fact that she could bloody well hold her own in a
fight, she
never
let herself
get drawn into close quarters with a male wolf. She had used
cunning and claws and speed on an open ground to craft the
reputation she had. But brute strength against brute strength in a
small space she would lose every time. It was physics.

She bared her teeth at
him, incisors tingling to burst free. “Let me go.”

He buried his
nose in her neck, inhaling. “I can’t get an atom’s worth of scent
from you
which
only means one thing, now that my brain has finally caught up
with me. It’s been a long day.”

Rolf's power
swept through her shields, using the same element of surprise she
had
used
in
evading him the first time, causing a crack which he ruthlessly
pried open, shattering her barriers.

Andraste cried
out from the shock of it, shifting in an attempt to get a leg loose
enough to knee him. He turned his hip at the last second
while grabbing her arms and slamming them against the wall
over her head. She tugged, but couldn’t move an inch, even as her
muscles bunched with effort.

You son of a
bitch.”

What pack are
you, little girl? You aren’t Dalig Hund. I know every one of mine.”
He lifted his head, wrapping a hand around her throat as he met her
eyes. “And if you aren’t Dalig Hund…”

She inhaled in fury and
his scent hit her, even as she watched the pupils of his eyes
dilate, the black nearly swallowing the iris whole.

Her father had tried to
explain to her once, what it was like when your wolf scented its-
your- mate for the first time. A shock that rippled through the
body and instant recognition. An urge so primal and unavoidable
that new mated pairs were forgiven for any faux pas they made in
public before they could get hold of themselves.

Andraste’s pussy
clenched, even as her mind reeled, processing the sensation. Oil
and leather and some type of industrial shampoo over the woodsy
musk of man and wolf. It flooded her and her wolf stood up and
howled. And then lunged at him, so determined to claim that the
woman could only flounder helplessly, trying to control her
reaction.

Rolf staggered back,
face pale, shoulders hunched. Andraste managed to gain the smallest
foothold of rational thought in her own mind, enough that she
pushed herself away from the wall and to the door, forcing her feet
to move, to leave, while her mate was distracted. Her mate. She
paused a split second, confused. She wasn’t supposed to leave her
mate.

No. Andraste turned
back to the door, reaching out a hand like in a dream and she was
in slow motion.

A truck rammed into her
back. She fully expected her head and bones to crack against the
poured concrete floor, but she landed on a warm male body. Her
forehead did smack against his, and she had the presence of mind to
be glad it wasn’t her nose. He shifted, and she was beneath him,
looking up into the face of an angry male on the verge of shifting
to wolf, eyes wide, lips pulled back over gleaming fangs.

You’re not going
anywhere,” he said with a low, guttural growl.

His body weighed hers
down, hot and hard, not a soft inch anywhere on him. She recognized
the feel of his heavy cock pressed against her stomach, clear
evidence of the same arousal that gripped her in its silken trap
and refused to let go.

No,” she said
through a throat that felt as if it were being
cho
ke
d.
“Let me go.”

He closed his eyes,
taking several rapid breaths. “Stop saying that, I don’t want to
hurt you.”

And he would. If
his wolf felt threaten
ed
, like it had to stop her from leaving, he
would hurt her.

At least get off
me.”

He rested his forehead
on the floor next to her ear, shifting his weight so that most of
it rested on his arms. And she could breathe again.

I guess that’s
better than nothing.”

Mate.” He said,
a thread of wonder in his voice. “So many years…” Rolf looked at
her again. “What pack are you from?”

Andraste realized he
hadn’t managed to shock her back into her natural face. He still
had no clue who she was. Her mouth firmed. Mate or no, he was also
an enemy Alpha. She wouldn’t say anything.

He interpreted her
expression correctly. His eyes narrowed. “If you won’t tell me on
your own, I’ll have to make you.”

She sneered. “Torture
me all you want, Rolf, I’m not saying anything.”

Who said
anything about torture? There are other ways to gain a woman’s
compliance.”

He seized her
lips in a kiss blatant in its possessiveness. His lips were smooth,
tasting of apples and beer. He didn’t close his eyes, rather he
held Andraste’s gaze almost as if daring her to
turn
away, hot and feral with
hints of suspicion underneath helpless need.

His knee nudged
her thi
ghs
apart. Her hips bucked in an instinctive reaction- despite
the heat in her veins he hadn’t done nearly enough work to subdue
her knowledge of who they both were. Knowledge he didn’t have. He
thought she was just a low rung shifter sent to collect intel- a
problem but nothing he couldn’t control, smooth over
with his pack. If he really knew who Andraste was- the pack
would never allow their mating. They’d call for a Severing, and
wouldn’t that be stupid. The fall out would cripple two powerful
packs, but shifters could be highly emotional people, and not look
at things quite the right way.

You’re thinking
too much,” he said, settling his hips against her in a move that
nearly brought a moan to her lips. “And I don’t think you’re
thinking about me. That’s a problem, darlin’.”

His lips trailed down
her neck, finding the dip of collarbone and then traveling down,
warm breath tickling the valley between her breasts.

No, we can’t do
this,” Andraste said, trying to clear her brain. She had always
secretly disliked the idea of a biological mating without love,
friendship or respect first- had always hoped it would never happen
to her, confident that if it did, she could control her instincts
enough to pull back.

And why not?
We’re mates- nothing to help it.”

His teeth sank
into the soft flesh around her nipple, clever tongue nudging fabric
out of his way to meet bare flesh. Her body went boneless as his
tongue found her pebbled nipple. She couldn’t control her instincts
and was fighting a losing battle with the desire to even
want
to control her instincts. Her
mother had told her that love could always come later- Andraste
wasn’t certain. She’d seen too many mates bound together and
miserably unhappy despite the instinctive attachment and voracious
sexual need.

You belong to me
now, your fealty is mine. Whatever reason you were here tonight no
longer exists.”

Did he really think it
was that easy? He couldn't be so simple minded. Rolf released one
of her wrists, cautiously, raising his head to watch her
expression. She should have done something, fought… something. But
he used his free hand to cup her breast, massaging the full globe
with a strength that exhilarated her. She’d never taken an Alpha to
her bed, never been fucked by a man stronger than her.

Rolf must have been
reassured by what he saw in her face. He returned to his
ministrations, growing bolder and more insistent with his nipping
teeth and caressing hands. Her free hand rose and tangled itself in
his sandy hair. She stared at it as if it were an alien, feeling
oddly betrayed but at the same time liberated. He didn’t know who
she was. Andraste didn’t know how this whole situation would turn
out, but for now she could just let go and feel. Pretend to be
someone else. Someone without worries and responsibilities. Just a
woman with a man.

The fantasy
spurred her desire, handing her an illusion that her actions had no
consequences. That she could find a mate, fuck him like a good
shifter woman, and everything would be all right. They would
eventually fall in love, whelp a few puppies, and live their lives.
She could bake pies or some shit. Andraste sighed, the breath
turning
into a broken moan. Fantasy.

CHAPTER

3

You’re young,”
he said. “I can tell. You haven’t learned that you can’t fight a
mating. Our wolves won’t let us.”

Her hands tightened in
his hair, pulling his head up so she could see his face. “So we
fuck- and then what?”

He rose, bringing her
up with him. If Andraste harbored the illusion that he had gained
some measure of control and was about to let her go, the illusion
evaporated when he pulled her full length against him, his hard
erection evidence along with pale, burning eyes that he had no
intention on waiting.

I take you- and
when the mating heat clears, we think. We plan. And whatever secret
you are hiding from me, you will release.”

He turned her around
and walked her backwards towards his desk. The surface was already
clear- evidently he just used it as a place to prop his elbow when
talking.

I am no low
ranking wolf for you to mate without permission.”

I am Alpha. I am
Law. I do not ask permission to take what is mine.”

He pulled her head
back, lowering his head so his teeth could graze the side of her
neck. What was she saying? That last statement was too close to the
truth for safety. Andraste needed to think. She needed to think, to
get away-

Stop
it.”

His arm tightened
around her and in a quick move he lifted her onto the desk, pushing
her onto her back, her legs dangling over the sides.

What if I say
no?” she asked.

Blue eyes clashed with
brown. “You won’t.”

What if I say
no?”

He snarled, a low sound
of frustration. “Are you saying no?”

Andraste opened her
mouth and once again he claimed her lips in a kiss; this one
gentle, persuasive. A sweet seduction all the more insidious for
the illusion it gave that he would take no more than she was
willing to give. A pretty lie meant to gain her compliance.

His hands cupped her
breasts through her shirt, bunching the cloth together and tore,
splitting cloth as if it were paper. He stared at dusky round
globes that half spilled out of her lacy lavender bra, moving with
her rapid breaths, enticing. When he moved to the waistband of her
pants, she said nothing, even as his stare challenged her to speak,
to deny him. Andraste did not want to deny him, this enemy Alpha.
Didn’t have the strength to fight herself any longer. She closed
her eyes as he peeled her stretchy jeans down her legs leaving her
in a bra and matching panties, bits of her leftover shirt dangling
from her sides.

She almost reared up in
shock when he spread her thighs and she felt his moist tongue
between her legs, a thin barrier of panty separating his skin from
hers.

Tell me no,” he
said, a masculine challenge, and ripped the panties away from
her.

She reached down and
spread her lips for him, his tongue and teeth arrowing in on her
clit and lavishing it with ruthless attention. The throbbing
pleasure built, centering in the small area of flesh even as she
felt the gathering liquid lubricate her pussy, preparing for him to
take her.
